I had used this company about 10 years ago. They had given me a quote for storage and moving. I was in the middle of my home being built and the storage was for 4 months. The rep showed up and estimated our household. It was pricy, but we had wanted piece of mind. One month later a new bill had arrived and it was $ 3,000 more than the estimated price. I had contacted an attorney because now my furniture was in their possession and my hands were tied. My attorney had contacted the owner and he refused to respond to any correspondence. Then I was informed that they would not move us into our new home as per our contract. We hired another company and that had cost us an additional $ 2,000. The stress free experience had caused us nothing more than stress. I had reported them to the BBB and they had fed them some B.S. I had just wanted the experience to be over because I could have taken them to court and would have won because the fine print clearly stated they had to hold to the estimate. I had contacted the DOT and they had told me they were wrong to do that. My furniture arrived damaged and they had paid out $ 200. I am writing this now because I am in the market to move again and their name had surfaced on my search. Moving is a very stressful experience and these people are crooks. I have nothing to gain from this except that I wish to alert the public about this company and the way they do business.

Burgess was actually chosen by the Public Guardian’s office to store a bunch of valuable items belonging to my recently widowed aunt with Alzheimer’s while the family was in court getting some predators kicked out of her house. After we won the case, we have been working with them to remove the super valuable stuff and get it into a secure lock-​up, and the people at Burgess have been extremely friendly and helpful. The facility itself is really well run, and the staff are great.

We just used Burgess Moving to relocate our office and they were amazing. The crew was really friendly, very careful with all of our expensive equipment and extremely efficient. I would definitely use them again.

This is the third time we have used Burgess for our move and, as usual, they were outstanding! From the walk through of the house, to the professionals that did the move — it went very smoothly. They really make it seem easy, although moves can be stressful… and not one item was broken or damaged.

Just used Burgess to move our household goods for the second time and we are very satisfied. The initial call I made to inquire about pricing was very professional and a walk-​through of our house was scheduled to get an accurate cost estimate. The walk-​through was very thorough and we received a quote right away. After scheduling the move, we received a confirmation call a few days prior and then the truck and 3 movers showed up right on time the day of the move. We had already packed our items so the guys just had to move everything to the truck. They did take apart the beds and bed frames and reassembled everything when we arrived at the new house. They were diligent in their work, very friendly, and were very careful with our items and respectful of the walls (and new paint at the new location). I highly recommend Burgess for your moving needs.

This is the 5^th time I have used professional movers. The first 4 times, the moves were Out of state and Corporate Moves. Although local, this was a very Stressful move for me as it involved not only moving me and my family but my 87 year old father. From the initial contact with Nathan Doyle, to the Packers, with Bill and the crew to the final movers, everything was awesome!!! Burgess Moving and Storage is the BEST. Very professional, polite and accommodating to my every request. If God is willing, my final move will be my retirement home. More than likely out of state. I will certainly be a RETURN Customer. Burgess moved our home of 4,000 sq. ft. They packed the kitchen and moved most everything in the house. From the employee that came to estimate the move to the movers themselves the service was 5**** +. Everything was handled well — packing and delivery. On top of it all, the seller of the home didn’t vacate as scheduled and Burgess stored our belongings 4 days… cooperative and sympathetic to the situation! Absolutely recommend Burgess to anyone moving!

Moving made easy! From my first phone call to their office to make an appointment for an estimate, to when everything was moved into our new home, this company was the best. Nathan Doyel the salesman was very helpful and gave us a very fair estimate to pack and move all our household items and furniture. The packers, Ted, Steve and Martine arrived on time and worked diligently until every single item was packed. The following day Eloy and his 3 co-​workers arrived at 8:00 am and loaded all our effects onto 2 trucks. They worked extremly hard, even though it was almost 90 degrees. They then had to offload everything which they did with extreme care and placed it exactly where we wanted it. Job well done!

The company sent their estimator out, who was very confident and helpful, although this was our 4^th or 5^th move. She was very professional, personable and helped us relax a bit. The move went splendidly. The crew was on time, prepared, respectful of our goods and made the move within the estimated timeframe. They worked steadily and rested appropriately.
I very highly recommend Burgess for your move-​big or small. They are pros in every sense of that word and a friendly bunch, as a bonus!

My husband and I have never hired movers before so we were nervous. We interviewed three companies and went with Burgess, even though they weren’t the lowest quote. A big thing to me was the vibe of the company and I felt good with the estimator they sent to us.
The trucks pulled up promptly on moving day and 6 men piled out, walked the house with us and got busy! These guys were working hard! They were very friendly.
Once we arrived at our new home, which was a 2 story as opposed to the original 1 story, we could tell that they were tiring out. They still worked hard, but near the end they began to slip a tad. Not all of the boxes made it to the correct spot in the house, instead several were left stacked in the garage. One gentleman was trying to assemble my son’s bunkbed was tired and very noticeably frustrated.
My complaints are really minor as they are human, we have a lot of junk, and it was a hot day. I would recommend Burgess to a friend and if we ever move again, which I hope not, we would certainly give them a call!

I called this company after being failed by another moving company and I’m glad I did. They were professional, on time, every was on schedule, friendly staff, well prepared with tools. I highly recommend them. They moved my furniture from a storage in Riverside to San Marcos they are a bit more expensive than other companies but so worth it hassle free.

Burgess has a dirty little secret which we discovered during our move with them. Did you know that they will take no financial responsibility for any negligence on their part for damage to your goods? This is exactly what happened to us. Negligence by Burgess’ employees when they incorrectly loaded the truck caused damage to several items in our recent move from Riverside to Los Angeles – a sleigh bed headboard seriously damaged, a leaf on a butler table ripped off at the hinges and other crushed and smashed items.
We were encouraged by office staff to get estimates to have these items fixed and we would be taken care of. When the estimates were presented I was notified by Tim Burgess that Burgess holds that these costs were my responsibility since my insurance policy had a deductible and the damages were not over the deductible of the policy.
Whoa! Since when does liability shift away from the party whose negligence caused the damage? So the bottom line is that Burgess disavows all liability for its employees’ negligence. In fact, their employees have no incentive to be at all careful with your valued possessions since damages to your possessions cost Burgess nothing out of pocket.
When I objected and presented these same arguments, Tim Burgess tried to pay me to go away with a check for a fraction of the damage claims. Being principled people, we sent the check back with a letter stating that the amount was inadequate and reminding him that we had spent approximately $ 14,000 on two moves with Burgess in the past 5 years and this was no way to treat a good customer. Mr. Burgess did not have the courtesy to even respond.
The bottom line is – if you are looking for a moving company that treats customers fairly and has some measure of corporate responsibility and ethical values, look elsewhere.

I’ve used several moving companies over the years and by far, Burgess has been the best.
First, they sent someone out the day after I called to give a really good estimate.
They were a little more expensive than some of the other places I called, but they also didn’t do on-​site estimates, so who knows what the additional charges would have been?
Once I signed the contract, they took care of everything. A guy came in the day before and packed up the entire place with great care. And it was really well labeled and organized — which I’ve appreciate every time I go in the garage and unpack one of the remaining boxes.
The day of the move, they were on time and were really fast in packing up as well as unloading and setting up the big stuff. Nothing was damaged.
I would have given 5 stars, but on packing day they were nearly 3 hours late because their truck ran out of gas before they got here. That’s something that shouldn’t happen.
They were well worth the money and if we move again, they’re getting the call.

THIS COMPANY IS THE BEST! This is my story:
As the previous reviewer, I called United because I used them for an interstate move and they had done a great job. I thought that I would try them again for my move here in the city. Unfortunately, THEY DROPPED THE BALL… BIG TIME. From being late for the estimate appointment, to over charging on the estimate to never returning emails. Poor customer service, United. Shame on you!
I then deceided to try Burgess Moving. Thank God. From Rachel in Customer Service, to Ed in Management, and Mike, Joe and Victor in Moving… these people are tthe bomb.
Rachel spoke with me first. She is polite, informative and very helpful. She spoke with Ed and set me up an appointment for him to come out and give me an estimate.
Ed was on time, a few minutes early, in fact. From the moment we started our tour through my moving nightmare, he was reassuring, confident in his company and workers, and professional. He spoke to me with kindness and cares about your situation and understands how upsetting it is to people in this stressful time. His calming nature leaves you feeling you have nothing to worry about… Which he told me many times after all my questions.
Mike, Joe and Victor arrived right on time. I was quoted between 8:00 and 8:30. They arrived at 8:10, clean, professional and ready to work.
My situation was a little different as I had to move ²⁄₃ of our things into a storage unit and I am combining 3 households. I had asked the storage facility before hand if any size truck could come into the facility and was told yes. After loading all the things that were going in our house first and starting into the storage things, I called the facility to make sure the 45 foot semi could make it in. Well, I was informed wrong… the truck won’t fit… it’s too big… OMG…Mike called Ed and Ed got it all situated for me. We spoke and he reassured me its not a problem. He even came down and spoke to the manager at the facility to make sure my move went smoothly. I told you these guy are great!
Onward HO, The guys got all my things in the truck, and believe me we have a lot of stuff without any damage to my house I was moving out of and/​or my belongings.
They are fast, efficient and wrap all your things to protect them. They go above and beyong the call of duty. Lunch time… We provided lunch… that was the least I could do. They dont expect it… but come on people… they are working their asses off doing one of the things we HATE to do… it wasnt enough on my part. They didnt even take ½ and hour to eat and rest… back to work.
Onto the storage unit… they had to shuttle my stuff (Ed set up a smaller truck and driver to come and help, I can’t remember the drivers name. Lenny, I think… but he was great too) into a truck and then to storage. Three loads later… Im feeling bad for them but they don’t even flinch. Reassuring me and doing everything I asked of them with a positivie attitude. I am picky with my things and I thought having them move and remove and pack into my storage unit might cause damage or problems, but it didn’t. They packed my storage unit with care and ease.
Next, the house… Thank goodness we are almost done. This was the easy part. Again, the guys were efficient and fast. Joe even helped my elderly mom with her recliner in her room to make sure she could recline where he placed the chair… AAAAhhhh…so nice.
Finally…we are done… Yes…and before 5:00. Can you believe it? It was a long day but I couldnt have asked for a better group of people to help me out at this most stressful time. I can’t say enough good things for this company and its employees.
Burgess Moving is the BOMB! Hire them for your move. You wont be disappointed.
They treat you as they would treat their own family. Not only that… the move was $ 800 less than what United quoted me. I will definitely use them again and refer them to whoever I can :-).

I don’t know where to begin. After 24 years of living in the same apartment we bought a house. Now what? So many stressful things to wade through. We got recommendations for a lot of things, but couldn’t get a recommendation for a mover to save our lives. We tried D&D and they didn’t return 2 emails and 2 phone calls. Then we tried United Vanlines, figuring a bigger company would be better. Their referral person called us at 7:15 in the morning to tell us he had car trouble and wouldn’t be making our estimate appt.
So in desperation I tried the next company with a good rating on Unilocal and called Burgess. I wish I had got the person’s name who I spoke to, because she was terrific. Said there was no reason to come to our place for an estimate, she could do it over the phone. No extra charge for the apartment being upstairs and an upfront estimate.
Eloy and Joseph were our movers and they were like a shining ray of light after the hassle of getting everything ready to move. They went out of their way to make it as easy as possible on us even though they were having to make multiple trips up and down stairs with very heavy items and then walk them out to the parking lot. They were just a true blessing during what had become a difficult time. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to move me if I ever had to do it again.

Never again! Items disappeared, delivery window was missed, valuable painting was a total loss due to improper handling, driver left before missing boxes were accounted for, took nearly a year for claim resolution… hard to imagine a move being any worse.

We used Burgess for our move from the OC to Riverside … An absolutely great experience. Unlike other flakey companies that didn’t even bother to show up for the estimate, Burgess was on time from A to Z. The moving crew was nice and very professional. They even helped pack the last of the items that we had missed. I was in an emotional meltdown (who likes moving anyway) and they assured me they were there to help and everything would be fine. It was! A+!

Is a worry-​free move possible? With Burgess on your side, it is! When planning our move from Riverside to Pasadena, I wanted someone local, not just some franchisee of a national chain. I knew about Burgess – they are the people who move for the University of California at Riverside. They had moved offices for my husband and me and we had been impressed with their professionalism. But we solicited estimates from three other locals before making our decision.
What sold us was the professional way that they handled the estimate. Of course, price was a factor, but Burgess was neither the highest nor the lowest. The low estimates worried us – when it came to moving we feared we would get what we paid for. The Burgess estimate seemed thoughtful, thorough, and realistic. In the end, we paid a bit under the estimate as we moved some of our things ourselves – so they were pretty accurate. They also set a realistic timetable which they beat by a couple of hours.
During the initial meeting, the Burgess rep mentioned that many of their crew had been in their employ for many years – one driver for 18 years! That spoke well of the company – and indeed, subsequent interactions with the office staff and then with the packers and movers themselves impressed us with their professional and courteous service. They know moving is stressful and go out of their way to be kind!
Burgess will sell you new boxes at half the price of retail outlets for your pre-​move packing. They also offer recycled boxes (I am not sure if they charge for them) but those boxes are subject to availability and they didn’t have any when we moved. The Burgess men packed us in one day and moved us the next. It was all smooth with no surprises, no breakages. The gentlemen who got us out of Riverside and set up our house were just that – gentlemen!
In a move to a new house, you have a lot to worry about. What was amazing to me was that in the weeks leading up the Big Day, I found myself not worrying at all about the actual move. I trusted Burgess from our first meeting and my expectations were exceeded! We couldn’t recommend them more highly!
