History

Established in 2009.

After working for the California ABC nearly 30 years, Lauren Tyson retired. A few years later, she decided to use that vast experience to help others and become a liquor license consultant. She noticed that most license consultants only helped people get a license. Lauren wanted to offer more in the way of preventing alcohol-​related problems. Along with helping people get a license, she also developed customized policies and procedures, and training, for serving alcohol safely and legally. She also started an informative blog and became an expert witness for lawyers who needed help in liquor liability cases. Most recently, she started a newsletter and is now designing training on liquor laws and liability, and she is working on some books.

Lauren C. Tyson was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and came to California with her family in 1959. In 1976, she went to work for the California Alcoholic Beverage Control, where she worked for 29 years, including 5 years in a non-​sworn position and 24 years as a sworn Investigator, Supervising Investigator and District Administrator, both in various district offices and in ABC Headquarters, Sacramento. She has handled and overseen hundreds of liquor licensing and compliance investigations involving liquor retailers and wholesalers. Under both Directors Jay Stroh and Manuel Espinoza, Lauren developed and managed California’s Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) Program from January 1991 to June 2004. LEAD is an award-​winning statewide alcohol seller/​server training program and winner of two national awards. She retired from the ABC in 2005. In 2009, she founded Liquor License Advisor.
