Horrible customer service!!! They charge $ 750 if you want to cancel your service early. I will never use them again.

Just spoke with customer service regarding a faulty motion detector that needs service or replacement. The individual would not offer any other service days except for one specific day of the week which is a Friday. I am only off on Mondays and Tuesdays including the weekend but they indicated even if I cancel my service along with three other family members they would not offer any additional days of the week for service. I explained that I would have them replace the faulty motion detector and then cancel along with the three additional family members and the customer service representative did not care. I will be switching to ADT.

This is the most unethical alarm service around. I used them for 10 years and when I closed the office I gave them 60 days notice in November of 2014. I just got a bill for 48.00 that they said I still owed «really «. Then she said that they would settle for half. I told her that I would tell everyone that I know never to use them, she could care less. After 10 years And that’s service

I have not had or will have this company for my alarm system. We had a door to door sales man from them show up and was just very sales pushy. And asking a lot of questions I was uncomfortable with answering. For example I had not agreed to anything (a few minutes into the conversation) he had already asked my to give him what I would like my pin code to be. Sadly seeing all the bad posts makes me feel more comfortable as I was worried the guy was casing my place to rob it… Seeing all the other post makes me think this was one of their salesman…
after writing this i read this and to be quite honest i wonder if the guy that showed up at my house wrote it…

I would never recommend P1. Their sales rep follow up is terrible. We moved out of our offices 2÷14÷15. We advised them and they even installed at our new location. Here it is almost 2 months later, and they are still billing us for the old location that was shut off when we moved out. We referred them to the new tenant of our old building, and they waited 6 WEEKS to contact him. He had tried several times to contact them, but never received a response back for 6 WEEKS. They tout a 97% customer satisfaction rating… they must have been polling their family members, because I can’t find a positive review on them. Beware of your billing. Ours still isn’t correct after 6 weeks.
Very disappointed in service and follow up.

Today the sales rep came to our new business. He hands me a business card that looked like he got it out from the trash!!!
This chump went as far as to threaten me because I told him that his prices were too high. I told him that we were probably going to use ADT. Then he threatened to send his service crew out to remove the existing protection one alarm system that had not been in use for over two years. He wanted $ 350 for an installation fee, ADT was free. This building has been vacant for over a year and changed owners eight months ago. When he threatened to send his crew over to rip out the existing alarm I kicked him out of my store. When I called the corp office, they said that he was the best salesman on their crew! I will never do business with these clowns!!! I’d rather buy a RadioShack alarm systemthen use protection one!!!

Same sentiments as other Unilocalers. They charged me for early termination, but I am sure the salesman hadn’t indicated that there was a three-​year term for service because at no time did I have any intention of being in the building for 3 years. Considering the equipment was already in the building, I had no reason to suspect that I was entering the contract since I wasn’t using them for anything other than restarting the service. Because of Protection One, I always take the time to read the fine print no matter how long much to a salesmen’s chagrin.
Also, as others said, I had to cancel in writing. I ended up sending a certified letter to make sure that they didn’t BS me and say they didn’t get it. They put me through some rigamarole of recovering the equipment too after I had already moved out (even though it was there for years before I moved in), making it a greater hassle because I had to coordinate with the new tenant and they were not happy. On top of that the person who was to remove the equipment was late even after giving me a huge appointment window of like 4 hours.

What a horrible company. We had Protection One for two years. I guess there was a reason why they offered a cheap price. When we tried to change service to another company, Protection One started a sabotage campaign.
First, they demanded that I give them one-​month notice of termination of service by both email and letter. They claimd they didn’t receive either. So I sent another email and letter. They claimed they didn’t receive those, either! That ate up a couple weeks.
Then I asked them to please change the installation code so that the new company could start service. They said they couldn’t do it, the new company had to change the installation code. I called the new company and they said Protection One had to do it. Who do I believe? Well, Protection One wants to make it so difficult for me to leave that I don’t.
I called Protection One back and they said that they couldn’t change the installation code because «the account is now inactive.» WTF! They’re worse than the DMV! Then a rep of the new company came out and discovered that the alarm box had been locked by Protection One, so they were unable to work on it.
I called Protection One and talked to Glenda, who sympathized with me and told me that «I shouldn’t tell you this, but here are the instructions on how to» make the system available to the new company. Then she gave me a procedure for reprogramming the system. Today, a rep of the new company visited my house and read those instructions, and WTF! the rep recognized that if we did what Glenda said, it would permanently damage the system. In fact, we called the alarm system manufacturer and they confirmed that it would damage the system.
Now, our options are to buy a whole new alarm system or go back with Protection One. You think we’re going to go back to this disgrace of a company now? No way. No way. No way.

This is the worst experience I have EVER had with any company I’ve had at my house to do work. After 2 months and 4 (FOUR!!!) visits from technicians my system is STILL not installed. Sad too, because I was really excited about going with this company. I’ve asked for a full refund (almost $ 600) and to have a professional come out and repair all the holes that are everywhere. If you value your time, money and safety… you’ll go with a different security company.

I only wish there was a negative rating for this lousy company. If you pay your bills on time and can provide proof with a canceled check this company will not service you until they find their mistake. When they find their mistake they w ill not credit you anything, even if it is found to be their lousy bookkeeping. Protection one should be out of business. Do not do any business with this company. Watch out… They are the worst form of scum out there ripping off clients and not providing the service they say they do.
Don’t use Protection ONE!!! Rip Offs…
Even if you pay your bill the service is stopped until they find your payment and this could go on for a month of no service you paid for. Scummmmmsssssssss…
Forgot to mention, the poor customer service. Protection one bills you with an invoice number. If you pay that and note the invoice they will not conceder your account paid. WTF??? Why have an invoice number??? Are they for real??? You owe whatever they figure you owe. Forget the invoice… Who does this???
Do not do business with this company… They are rip offs…

Ever since they were bought by GTCR they have changed and service has suffered. The equipment is leased, which I was surprised to find out, but that was why the wanted to do a credit check.
Overall there are better options for security, but these guys are far from the bottom of the pack.
