Submarine Crab

Really really good seafood boil… only thing is, sometimes their mussels are small and overcooked… other than that, their boiled shrimp is very juicy and big… and their sauce is DELICIOUS!!! Wayyy better than rockstar shrimp… rockstar shrimp’s sauce is way too salty

I came here for lunch. Got the lunch special for 6.99. It was a fried shrimp poboy with sweet potato fried. It was delicious! The poboy had lettuce and tomatoes. The ingredient were quality. I wish there were some other options for sides because I can’t always be eating fries. Maybe a nice small salad would be good.
The service was good too. Tyrone helped me. He was polite and attentive. It’s nice to see a young gentlemen with good customer service skills.
Keep working hard! I will be back.

I love eating at these Cajun seafood places. The novelty of eating off of a table is something I won’t get tired of. Our server was very attentive and sweet and the food came out in a timely manner! The only complaints I have are with the white rice and the sausages. The white rice came out on a plate and at first, I couldn’t tell if it was brown or white rice. It was just overcooked and dry. The sausages came out in bits, not like the chunks I’m used to from Kickin Krab or Boiling Crab. The pieces were so small that they were lost in the sauce. I did enjoy the food though, so I’ll probably be back!

First time here since it was pretty new. The waiter dude (Jesus) seemed lousy and didn’t want to take our order, and when he did, he didn’t know what an «entrée» was, and didn’t give us the lunch menu that we were using our coupon with, and seemed inexperienced. The other two waitresses seemed alright though. Not only that, but they messed up my friend’s order and gave him shrimp and squid instead of mussel and squid. The portions were also disproportionate. My boyfriend only got about three pieces of shrimp, whereas I got about five or six pieces, with a decent portion of fries. The fish was not cooked very through, as it tasted grimey and like how frozen fish sticks taste. We ordered the lunch special, and they charged us full price instead of the special price. In addition, they forgot to give us shrimp chips and we had to ask for our drinks. The food wasn’t bad, but the service was lacking. Rockstar Shrimp is a better alternative.

Terrible service, was not seated when I entered, and one of the servers (big guy with greasy shirt named jesus) ignored us for 2 mins. Took a while to get a menu, but ended up ordering 3 lunch specials. Orders were slow and the basketball game switched to commercials twice before food came, They did not give us water or our drinks, gave us shrimp instead of mussel, and my plate had 4 shrimps in it. Had to ask for the shrimp chips. The crab ragaloons were terrible, fries were decent, but did not have even seasoning. Shrimp was fine, but my friends all got a lot more than I did which left a bad taste. My friends fried fish reminded me of what Costco frozen fish sticks sticks taste like when they are undercooked which is not a good sign. In the end I was ready to forgive them due to the other servers being helpful but they ended messing up my check. I would not recommend.

I got a lb of shrimp with the torpedo sauce. The sauce was good but I wish the flavor was stronger. But one major downside was the shrimp: it was overcooked so the peel was really stuck to the shrimp. The service was really great and the shrimp crackers were addicting. Overall, I would go again.

Today was my first time here, and it took a while for them to take my order. I was about to leave like other people did, but I wanted to try the food. Then they messed up my order, forgot to bring to drinks, and at the end messed up my check. A lot of problems.

Ordered a pound of mussels with corn, potatoes and sausages to go, but the extras were nowhere to be found. I guess you need to make sure they make the correct order, otherwise it’s not bad.

I came here wanting to have a good shrimp po boy. I was so disappointed. It’s too much batter on the shrimp and the bread is so crunchy. I had to honestly take out the shrimp and eat them alone. They are big shrimp but it’s about 5. I rather have smaller ones with less bread so I could have a bite of shrimp if I could have bit through it. The ingredients are fresh. Fries were okay. But definitely disappointed. Menu doesn’t have much to offer. Plus side I like the ice. It’s the one I can chew on easily since the Sprite was out and was told it couldn’t be changed when I told them. Not a place I would recommend or enjoyed. Hopefully it gets better.

I am so happy this place lived up to the OC location’s expectations. There is also a Submarine Crab in GG and it has really great reviews.
My table got torpedo medium shrimp and clams with a side of cajun fries.
The SHRIMP WAS FRESH (NOT TOO OILY) and clams were tasty (but really small).
Our server was super sweet and accommodating which made our experience even better, thank you!
Oh and the soap with dry ice at the end was dope tooooooo

The flavor at this place beats (hands down) other boiling crab/​shimp types of places. I would totally recommend getting a bag of shrimp, garlic noodles, gumbo, and the sausage! Ok, let me tell you the sausage is the best– it tastes fresh and not processed like those other boiling pot/​shrimp/​crab places. Subamarine cares about the taste and quality.

I like the clean ambiance of this place. It has the submarine portholes as part of the wall décor and some rustic looking piping along the walls. Service was very nice and attentive, especially asking if we needed water. I ordered garlic noodles, 1 lb clams torpedo mild, 1lb shrimp garlic butter mild, with various extras (corn, sausage, potatoes). Instead of just the usual plastic bag, food also comes out with a pot and I can see why… It’s super hot. The torpedo sauce is a combination of the 3 — Cajun, garlic butter, and lemon pepper. I thought the sauce was a little too salty without enough flavor. Not sure if it’s the combination of the sauces together but I didn’t think it was that cohesive and could give me that mm let’s eat more feeling. A lack of heat shouldn’t be the issue. Also clams were on the smaller side (take it as a note, could be off season) but all of the extras tasted good. My boyfriend’s shrimps were big and juicy, garlic butter sauce tasted pretty okay, as I said before not enough of that oomph factor. The garlic noodles deserve a 5 star on their own, but it’s better to eat this while still hot and gooey — you’ll know what I mean. Flavors were very savory and had lots of nice bits of garlic and finely grated cheese on top. My only wish is that it had some sort of crunchiness or maybe more parsley. Overall, standard crawfish seafood joint. Please don’t go in expecting boiling crab status. Enjoy the proximity of seafood close to UCR. The UV has taken one step in the right direction.

The food there is so different and good! No after taste like the other crawfish places. Service nice and friendly at a great price… I’m coming back!

I’ve tried submarine crab in Orange County too so I had pretty high expectations coming into this one before hand.
The service was great! They just opened so the people working there were still trainees but they are really helpful and nice.
I didn’t like the Cajun fries so you can skip that next time! It didn’t have that Cajun taste to it like how boiling crab does it
The sauce that is cooked with the shrimp is pretty flavorful and yummy! Although their spicy wasn’t as spicy as I imagined and remembered it to be from the garden grove location! But still better than anywhere around here in riverside ahaha
I would give this place about a month for it to improve since it just opened… So see you guys back in a month!

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and found out they were only serving their lunch menu at the time, but I wasn’t disappointed cause everything on the menu looked great!
Not sure if it’s just for their grand opening week or not, but all the lunch specials were only priced at $ 5.99. I went for the garlic noodles with fish and my boyfriend went for the shrimp po’ boy– all specials came with fries and a drink as well!
Garlic noodles with fish: tasted great! I’m a huge sucker for anything garlic and noodles, so I really enjoyed it. The fish was also really tasty, very well battered.
Shrimp Po’Boy: I got to try a bite of my boyfriends and I really liked! The sauce they put on the shrimp pairs really well with the ingredients. Definitely a must try and a good bang for your buck.
Will come back for dinner next time to try out some more items on their menu :)

Food and service was amazing! Ran out of shrimp for our order (we came close to closing with a big group) but they made up for it with clams and mussels on the house. Staff is dope, water-​game on point, and flavor is bomb.

The good:
The place was decorated really well to match their submarine theme.
The waiters were really attentive and quick.
They gave free garlic noodles to UCR students during opening week.
The bad:
I’m aware that it’s not the peak of crawfish season so I can understand the use of frozen crawfish however there was way too much garlic in our bag which was probably to disguise the frozen taste/​smell of the frozen crawfish. The seasoning wasn’t as flavorful as places like Rockstar shrimp and Boiling Crab.
And the verdict:
This place is good for when you’re really really craving crawfish but don’t want to drive to the nearest Boiling Crab. Honestly their hand washing «magic trick» is the reason people will be bringing their friends back. It’s pretty cool to experience at least once so I won’t spoil it here.

Showed up at 11am, the time they say its open, only to find out that theyre not going to open till 12 because they’re lagging. First week open and they’re not on their game. Dissapointing.

I have never tried Submarine Crab, but I went here for their grand opening. I was extremely satisfied with their service. The owner is very nice to talk to and the waiters kept checking up to see how we were doing. The food tastes great, and it’s probably going to be one of the biggest things in Riverside. I ordered a combo and they made a mistake on it; however they offered us a free extra pound of shrimp. On top of that, they gave us garlic noodles on the house. The employees are all friendly and I’ll definitely be coming back for more!

We just ate there apparently the day before their grand opening. It’s located where the old make your own phở place was and is an offshoot of their other massively successful location (according to Unilocal) in the OC.
The food is like any of those Boiling Crab type places. You order shellfish by the pound and choose a sauce (classic cajun, lemon pepper, torpedo, and garlic butter) and spic level. They also have fried and grilled seafood, some rice and pasta dishes, and po’ boys. My group just got combo 1 to share between three and it was plenty of food. Flavors were great, shrimps and clams were fresh and juicy, although the crawfish were mostly on the small side. Didn’t try anything but definitely a welcome (if messy) addition to University Village. Don’t forget to ask for bib and gloves!
The staff is still in training, and it seems like they still have a few kinks to work out but definitely give it a shot! Free garlic noodles for UCR affiliates during the grand opening.
