Barrel Chest has the largest, most carefully curated craft beer and fine wine selection in Roanoke Virginia. We are the only retail store in Southwest Virginia that sells draft beer and wine by the glass. Our lineup of 10 beers on tap and 12 wines by the glass have the most interesting selections at the best prices in the area. We also offer a small selection of snacks and sandwiches.

This has become one of my stopping points on trips near or through Roanoke. They have a great craft beer selection and their wine selection is good as well.
I come for bottles of Hardywood and other Virginia breweries but I often find beers from other states that I cannot find in the neighboring state to the south.
In addition to the bottle selection, they have a bar in the back where you can taste some of the days tap offerings. The offer beer, wine and mead in different sizes. While I was here I sampled a 17% Avery Stout — something we’ll never see in NC because NC has a 15% limit.
The people are friendly here but I’ve found people enjoy talking about craft beer whereever I go these days.

Very nice staff and a large selection of beers. Had wine but seemed more like a high end specialty beer store to me. They were having an event when we stopped on and had several tables with people drinking/socializing. If your from out of town like us they have no booze.

Awesome local spot! Without a doubt, the best craft beer selection in Roanoke. The tasting bar offers a wide variety of wines by the glass and beers on tap. The prices are very reasonable and you have the option of ordering different size pours (example, you can order a 5 oz glass of wine of a 2 oz tasting). It’s a great way to try a variety of things without having to commit. They have a small ‘snack’ menu, and while it’s quite limited, everything we’ve ever had has been made with fresh, delicious ingredients. Keep in mind this is an actual bottle shop, so the atmosphere isn’t quite what you’d expect from a traditional bar.

I LOVE this store! They have a huge selection of beers and a wonderful bar area to try a few of their favorites on tap! They also host special events like wine tastings and beer events. It a wonderful storefront. If you haven’t checked it out yet you must stop in!!!

Great selection of microbrews and wine. They have a cute little bar in the back with taps that change weekly. They also serve small treats like sandwiches and nachos. There is a seating area on the side as well good for bigger groups. The prices are fair and to fill a growler there costs next to nothing. A great addition to Roanoke, where cool stuff like this is hard to find at times. The service is friendly and helpful, which goes a long way as well.
