Best experience. Mike, our waiter, and Aaron, the General Manager were exceptional. The remodel is awesome. I was fortunate enough to meet Bill Kruse. Great food and service!

I haven’t been here in probably 10+ years, but I’m pretty sure the décor is just as I remembered it — alarmingly full of taxidermy animal heads mounted above you as you dine & mirrors completely lined in antlers. Personally, the décor is really off-putting. Every once in a while throughout my dining experience, I would look up at the marble eye jutting of the moose’s head positioned right above me and wonder if today would be the day it would finally fall out and onto my food. Appearances aside, they do have a really friendly and professional wait staff and the food is pretty good as well. There were a lot of items on the menu that I was interested in trying because they sounded delicious, and I ultimately settled on getting the Maryland Chicken. It had shrimp and crab meat stuffed into a baked chicken that was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, I was pulling shells out of my mouth several times during my meal which was very frustrating. In general, Kruse & Muer to me was underwhelming and didn’t live up to the expectations I had with its Unilocal ratings. If it was any other non-Michigan based restaurant it would have gotten 2 stars. But knowing that Kruse & Muer has been an establishment in southeast Michigan for as long as I can remember and I, a proud Michigander, support all things Michigan, it gets an extra star. They must be doing something right! But I think I will be okay not returning here for another 10+ years and look forward to seeing if the same animal heads & old nautical maps are still here! Pro tip #1: Don’t come here on a first date! While their starter bread is delicious, it’s chock full of poppy seeds that you know will get stuck in every nook and cranny of your teeth. :) Pro tip #2: It’s up to the manager’s discretion, but if it’s the first time that everyone in your party is visiting Kruse & Muer, they have been known to give you free dessert! :)

Just another spot we found thanks to Unilocal. While downtown for the Rochester’s annual Fire & Ice Festival we found ourselves trying to find a spot to stay warm in between tubing down the giant ice & snow luge set up in the middle of the street and walking around taking photos with the freshly carved ice sculptures. We decided to bite the bullet & wait patiently for a table to open up. It can get pretty crazy in here, trying to stay out of the way as the wait staff has to fight it’s way through a sea of people surrounding the host’s booth & a bar area packed to the gills. This has now become bit of winter tradition. This year we planned ahead and made a reservation so we could walk around a see all the shops lit up with Christmas lights & drink hot chocolate until it got closer to our reservation time. This worked out well, because as packed as they were they had us seated within 10 mins of our reservation time. Both visits have went the same way, with friendly service, prompt drink orders and complimentary fresh baked bread with packets of butter. If your like me & you’ve waited so long to eat that you feel like your the next star in a Snickers™ commercial, then you can appreciate K & M’s fresh baked bread covered with poppy seeds served in a white paper baget bag that they serve you as you are seated. It doest have to stop there though. I haven’t a clue if they’re store bought or homemade but I can’t help but order the chicken tortellini pasta with a rich creamy tomato sauce & fresh grated cheese so that I can go another round with that amazing bread(the bowl is spotless when I get done with it). We usually an order of the calamari with the lemon caper white wine sauce and a couple kid’s cheese & pepperoni pizzas, a couple refills later & a few carry out boxes for the pizzas to eat for lunch tommorow we are on our way to watch more of the crazies fly down the luge on First Steet. Its funny how we pick the restaurants to eat at, but the ones we return to pick us. We’ve had more then a couple good meals here & I’m looking forward to trying some of the other dishes K & M has to offer.

My parents just moved to the area and this restaurant was recommend to us. It seemed extremely popular based on the amount of people there and I completely agree. Don’t expect to be able to just walk in and grab and a seat, call and make a reservation. Get excited for the loaves of fresh bread that are going to grace your table. They are hot, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Stuff your face! I ordered the Seafood of Angels and let me tell you, I savored every bite. It was angel hair pasta with lobster, scallops, and shrimp as well as assorted veggies. It was all covered in a champagne cream sauce and it was perfect. My family ordered Parmesan encrusted scallops, the seafood chowder, and we shared the hot fudge cream puff. Would recommend any of those options! I feel like you can’t go wrong here, definitely make a reservation and give it a chance.

Kruse & Muertos on Main has always been my favorite restaurant and the anchor of downtown Rochester. The renovation is absolutely amazing. The restaurant is still classy but now has a touch of great gatsby. So in addition to the amazing food and innovative drinks(Thank you Stacy) they offer happy hour Monday — Friday from 3pm-6pm and Saturdays from 2−5Pm with $ 5 food featured and drinks. You can meet your friends at the bar and be in and out for under $ 20! ABSOLUTEGEM!

Was there last night. Hands down the best food I have tasted yet, & I have been all over. Me and my husband were so impressed! I told the waiter it was so good I would marry the chef! Just joking of course. I had steak Marcella and my husband had fish & chips. We also had 2 appetizer’s, stuffed mushrooms & lobster something, can’t remember the correct name? Even had the soup. Everything was amazing!!! It tasted like what rich people would eat. This is definitely my new place to eat.

Unbelievable. The renovations to this place are incredible. In my personal they were the most consistent restaurant in downtown Rochester with a solid core menu that never disappointed. With the modern day face lift and the addition of the Happy Hour? You are now talking about the most valuable commodity on the restaurant strip. Must go check it out.

Once again I’m finding myself giving a 5 star review when I think that this restaurant is really a 4 to 41⁄2 star because I want to counter some of the so so reviews on Unilocal that they don’t deserve. Oh, put a smart phone in someone’s hands and they want to be Mr/Ms NYT food critic. They love to criticize every little thing because it makes them feel important. First this is one of very few places(in the Detroit area) that I’ll eat seafood at when I’m not in a hurry Anyone who has been in the area for awhile will remember Joe Muer’s great seafood restaurants. Well, what made them great was they had the best fresh fish and they were creatively cooked dishes. Muer’s at it again. Only, not Joe this time, he’s fishing and sailing with Jesus now. Muer’s have the same great connections for the best fish, still ! I’m told that they supply The Rattlesnake Club in Detroit and that’s one of the best places to eat in all of Michigan. I’ve eaten at K & M many times and the food is very good but the food lacks some creativity. I’ve only had one bad experience and that was because they kept me waiting 10 mins after being seated but that doesn’t take away from the good food. Hope you have a good experience dinning there as I’ve had over the years. Increase the peace

This was not at all a bad place, but also not a place that is begging me back. This company has been around for a long time, has expanded their footprint locally throughout Oakland County. For a Monday evening dinner, the restaurant wasn’t too busy. There were 3 of us. We were promptly greeted, seated, and welcomed by our nice server. Here’s a weird thing to me… They’re famous for their bread, and it’s really good! However, I can’t understand why they would serve it with those little plastic containers of butter where you peel back the foil. Doesn’t scream«classy or sophisticated» to me. Reeks of «diner.» Where is the olive oil? Or at least a butter plate. Strange, especially considering the prices on the menu. My dish was almost $ 19. Anyway, we all ordered either pasta or seafood. I ordered the fettuccine with lobster and shrimp. When our food arrived at the table, the server(a different guy) tossed my pasta before offering cheese and serving it to me. Come to find out, there were some really dry pieces of fettuccine. Almost like it had been sunning under a heat lamp for a while without SPF. Considering the ability to quickly overcook seafood and pasta, this was not appreciated. My dish was dry and the shrimp were tough. So in conclusion… A very worthy, average, 3-star from me.

Love their bread and they have a lot of excellent meal options. But for portion sizes, it’s overpriced. Great atmosphere and service though.

Went to Kruse & Muer on a Tuesday night after seeing that Rojo was giving out 45-minute waits for Taco Tuesday. We were seated immediately and the service was attentive for the minimum amount without going the extra mile. Drink order… Food order. Bill. I got the Tortellini and it was good, but nothing stellar for the $ 15 price tag. I was still hungry after finishing it. Kruse & Muer is good, but really in the«meh» category for the prices they charge. No disrespect, but there’s definitely better options out there.

Having a gift card & a bogo, this was without a doubt where we were to dine last Saturday 12÷13÷14 — Love that date ! Walked in and it was obvious a wait was in store, but Jacqueline assured us less than an hour, go shop & check back in when you can. So we bopped back in 44 minutes later, sat us in 5, not to shabby considering the crowds in downtown Rochester. Mike was the chosen one to be our server, he fit & exceeded the bill perfectly. We were up front & honest about the bogo, he took it & processed it & encouraged us to go for it, and some of the upper end items. We started with & split Martha’s Vineyard Salad Red leaf lettuce, pine nuts, bleu cheese, purple onions & raspberry-maple vinaigrette *Perhaps the best –lightest dressing I had ever tasted The bride ordered: Panroasted Chicken With garlic, white wine, artichoke hearts, sliced mushrooms, tomatoes & fresh herbs, served with buttered mashed potatoes This dish went beyond her thoughts, dreams & expectations, which was very exciting for me to witness, because she often has buyers remorse on her selections due to tomato & pepper allergies. I was torn between two dishes, but a soldier sitting near me ordered the Main Sirloin Steak, on a hot skillet & butter & trimmings truly the dish captured the attention of the whole dining room It was around $ 23, but was well over the 14 ounces listed but nice splurge on a bogo I’m not always a fan of sirloins, as they can be to lean & tough, Mike assured me their sirloin was marbled and hat a little higher fat in it than most fat=flavor It resembled a ribeye, in taste! We are both anxious to get back very Very soon!

My friend, boyfriend, and I all went here a little bit later on Friday night. Considering it was prime dinner time, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table, which wasn’t too bad considering we tried a few other places and all of them had longer waits. The way this place is set up is kind of hectic. There’s not really a waiting area so you always feel like you’re in the way of someone. There’s a decent amount of room around the bar but you don’t want to hover over people as they’re eating/drinking and if you stand out of their way, then you’re in the way of the servers. Kind of annoying, but not something that would prevent me from coming here. Once we sat down we were greeted by our server(forget the guy’s name, of course) but he was awesome. Really friendly and gave lots of recommendations considering two out of three of us had never been there. We started out with one of the daily specials for an appetizer. I forget the name of it, but it was some kind of crusted scallop dish. That was super good. And the bread they give you? So. Damn. Good. For my entrée, I went with the Main Sirloin. It came with this delicious garlic butter on it and then a side of mashed potatoes and some sauteed zucchini and other vegetables. Everything was super legit and tasted great. My boyfriend got another one of the specials, some kind of blue cheese crusted filet and he really enjoyed it. This definitely seems like one of the nicer places in the area, and a good place for date night. I would definitely come back!

Kruse and Muer is hands down one of the nicest restaurants in the area. I love the old school vibe, and the laid-back-yet-still-kind-of-fancy attitude that the entire restaurant exudes. All of K&M’s food is stellar, most notably the bread and pizza, in my opinion! We’ve had some seafood dishes here as well and have been just as impressed, but what keeps me coming back is that garlicky, buttery, poppy seed bread that reminds you why carbs are so great. They make their pizza with this same dough, and you can tell that every one is hand-rolled. Any pizza is great, but I’d definitely recommend the Red Wing! The service here is almost always right on point. We usually sit at the bar and are treated with such care that you’d think every person was an old friend. The mojitos are excellent, they have a great selection of wine, and you just really cannot go wrong here… ever.

For what this place is — it’s surely a solid 5 star. I rate restaurants based on a comparison to like places and this by far is a 5 star. They have a good selection on their regular menu and enough choices on the special menu to have you making a difficult decision — I selected the steak — no surprise there. However, this steak was actually cooked super perfectly AND it has crazy flavor without being salted! The mashed goodness soaked in that natural steak juice had me wanted much more and the fresh green beans with mushroom sauce was terrific! I also had a salad with very fresh and tasty ingredients — as odd as it seems — I think there was a couple pieces of fruit — like melon that with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing just came together like a piece of tasty heaven. The service was fast and friendly and the place was clean and lite perfectly. I’m glad my boss took me to this place — and realized it was well withing our company guidelines for meals. Though I didn’t have room for desert — they had 4 or 5 to chose from and I bet they were as good as the rest of the food.
