I’ve been to Russell 7 or so times. Half of those times I’ve gotten there and realized, «Dagnabbit! They only take cash!» and begrudgingly end up at McDonald’s down the road. Russell is a hop, skip, and a jump from my house, though, so I’m quick to forgive. Their ice cream is tasty(I mean, it’s ice cream), but it’s nothing to write home to mother about. Anything with peanut butter or caramel is good enough for me. The times I’ve gone there’s hardly a line. They’re open year round which is great for me because I’m always jonesing for ice cream in the cold months when all the other ice cream stands give up and pack it in(Cowards!). I’m gonna hit these guys up(with cash) a few times this winter and try some new items. I have heard tale of a praline topping I must try. Perhaps I’ll be blown away by Christmas.

Russell’s is a great ice cream stand with soft custard and hard ice cream choices. Sizes/Prices are very reasonable. They have some rotating custard flavors and recently they had banana and peanut butter — I was so excited that you could twist them! The PB/Banana combo was tasty but the flavors were very subtle, I would’ve liked them a little more robust but it was rich and creamy. What I like best about Russell’s is that they have Dole Whip which is a non-dairy soft yogurt like option and the fruit flavors are always amazing! They also have crunch coat which is like a peanut/praline/sprinkle mix that I am addicted to — you must try it. I actually get my ice cream in a dish(usually always get a cone otherwise) so that I can get extra crunch coat. They are cash only, no cards! They have coupons in the Entertainment book as well as the SaveAround book and makes for some great deals.

This place is really, really good. And really popular. If you want to taste it, then wait right here… I can Russell up something similarly creamy and thick and milky for you. It’s like«salted caramel» but without the caramel. No interest? Alright. Fair enough. As you weeeeesh. What to get: Baby size banana or vanilla custard What else: Is there anything else in the world that really matters other than banana custard? And what: You’ve just been officially released into my custardy I was told this custard would suck but it was just a «Russe.» Even though I had just had 2 loads of custard in 2 different places, and even though I still had two more on the agenda, I added this spot to my July 4 food tour since it was open, and swung by for some treats. There was a Chili festival down the road, so it was busy as hell. Long lines and tons of kids and families getting their custard on. Paula Abdul loves this place, that’s why she sang the song«Russ, Russ» with Keanu Reeves in the video. I was thoroughly and absolutely impressed. It’s right up there with LuGia’s and Abbott’s and Rita’s as the absolute best custard in town. I adored every single taste of it. Here’s why: (1) Really nice service. The hot girl was sweet and the guy was really nice too (2) Really generous portions… the baby sizes are enorrrrrrrrrrmous (3) The cones taste pretty fresh and not stale at all (4) Vanilla custard was excellent, nearly as good as LuGia and Abbott (5) I thought I’d hate the banana but it was even better than the luscious vanilla (6) I love that they were open on July 4 so I could include it on my little food tour (7) The prices are absolutely ridiculous… 1.69 for a baby size that is the size of a house Don’t come here at Russ Hour though. It just gets too busy. I’d like to add that the banana custard is not just good. It’s incredible. I loved every single bit of it even though I was already getting sick of all the custard from all the other places. The vanilla was a 5⁄5 and creamy and perfect, nearly as good as LuGia and Abbott, but the Banana was even better. It was a 7⁄5 or something. It was addictively good. It made me not even interested in the vanilla. It’s not supposed to be that good, because I hate fake banana flavouring. And yet somehow they made this one taste — just — like — heaven. I hope it settles nicely in your tummy though. I wouldn’t want you to get«the russ.» Brilliant work from them. I will most definitely be back to try other flavours at this dirt cheap squirt of custard cone heaven in Chili. And by the way I just wanna say how hilariously ridiculous it is that locals pronounce this town«Chai-Lie.» They really do. So if you come here looking for some Chili Dogs or Chili Con Carne, you’re out of luck. But if you Lie and say you like Chai tea(a Chai Lie) then you’re absolutely in luck. Oh and dogs love this place. Especially Jack Russell’s. And they don’t sell candy. Not even Russell’s Stovers. And my fave actress? René Russ-ell.

Oh how I will forever love Russells! I have yet to find another icecream place to compare. This is my first go to spot when I’m visiting home. The icecream is delicious and the portions are very large.

Family has been coming here for more years that I can remember. As a kid, my dad would take us here for a treat on nice summer nights. Till this very day, my family still visits Russell’s pretty frequently. They have a ton of flavors and reasonable prices that put many competitors to shame. Again, prices are very reasonable and with coupons, you can sometimes score a bogo deal. Serving sizes are very generous, you’d probably be satisfied with a kiddie cone.

This is a charming little ice cream stand that has been around for decades and seems to be a Chili landmark. Even though it was my first time coming here, I got a nostalgic feeling from the place. It was the first«warm» evening of spring, with the slightest breeze in the air. The excitement and anticipation of the little kids waiting in line for the ice cream cones was palpable and brought back memories from way back in the day. The first time I went here I ordered a coffee ice cream shake which was a bad idea. Too sweet and tasted nothing like an authentic milkshake. The second time, I went with the masses and got a soft serve swirl ice cream in a waffle cone. Divine! The sprinkles, the crunch of the cone. This is what summer is all about! I definitely plan to return.

Taste the same as the one in Lake Ave, Rochester NY. More options and they fill up the cone from bottom to top(making the ice-cream worth every penny).
