Fair, prompt, and dependable has been my experience.
We have used Leahy now for three homes. Every time we’ve needed their help, we were glad we were repeat customers.

Awesome service. On time, did a great job and snaked the tub. Checked the sinks. Blaine was terrific. Even the dog liked him.

While they did clear an 8 foot deep clog, they also dumped gallons of «brown» water into my living room ceiling. When I called them about it, they took my number and said they would call me back. Two minutes later I got an alert that my check had been cashed, but shockingly, I have yet to receive that return call more than a week later.

I couldn’t get any information from whoever answers the phone in the office. They were rude and sarcastic. They must have forgotten that they aren’t the only plumbers in Bethesda.

Was visiting my in-​laws when we discovered their main sewer line out of the house was plugged. Not a good situtation. They came when they said they would, did what they said they would do, and dealt with the rather unpleasant situation very professionally. They even cleaned up after themselves! The price was very reasonable and on top of that they provided a senior citizen discount unprompted. Highly recommended!

I’ve used Leahy Plumbing hundreds of times for our business. They are professional, quick, and incredibly knowledgeable. I like the fact that when I call I can actually speak with a human being. Its actually the owner of the company that you speak to when you call. You also do not get the run around with pricing or what needs to be done. They are very straightforward. In my opinion they are the best in the area.

Every friend and neighbor I’ve referred John Leahy and his team to has become repeat clients. As did I.
We were new home owners in our Rockville neighborhood 10 years ago when we had a problem with a toilet in our 1960s Colonial. I started to grab the yellow pages to dial some 1 – 800 plumber number when I happened to see my new neighbor across the street.
Taking advantage of the opportunity to introduce myself, I explained that we needed a plumber, and asked if he knew someone good nearby.
«Don’t waste your time with anyone but John Leahy!» was the emphatic reply. He scribbled the number down, I made the call, the problem got solved, and I’ve never thought twice about calling anyone else.

I called on a Thursday to get an estimate for replacing my hot water heater and was told that they would have someone over the next morning. Sure enough, Wayne and Nick arrived first thing, inspected the work and had an estimate very quickly. I said to go ahead and do it since I had already gotten a couple bad estimates from other companies. In less than 2 hours they had my old HWH removed, the new one replaced, the area cleaned up, and I had hot water again!
I had read Scott M’s review before calling, but I didn’t have the same experience that he had even though I dealt with the same people. Everyone that I dealt with (John on the phone, Wayne, Nick, and another guy that I didn’t catch his name, at the house) were friendly, answered my questions, and the work they did is very professional looking and reasonably priced.

I have used them 2 or 3 times now. The first time or two I found them to be very responsive in making the appointment and the plumber who did the work was on time, VERY pleasant, helpful, explained everything and did very good work at what I thought at the time was a fair price and had I wrote this then I would have given 4 – 5 stars. I couldn’t say enough good things about the guy who came out visit 1 and 2.
However, this last round — not so much. 2 knuckle heads show up (Wayne & Nick) both having severe attitudes. Neither one wanted to really explain what the problem was, mostly just grunted when I asked questions. Eventually the younger kid went out and slept in the truck while the other guy looked into the issue. He seems to be very annoyed that I asked questions about the problem and resolution when he didn’t volunteer any info. The result was he installed 1 part & had to order another part. He was here less than 15 min and I was charged $ 150 for that visit. Ok…
A few weeks later Mr. Friendly (Wayne) shows up at my door — No call ahead to set up appointment– Just shows up. He was alone and just a tad friendlier but not a whole lot more. He installs the $ 6.00 part and wants another $ 50
I also found out that the part they installed on the 1^st visit is $ 15 at Lowes & the depot. I was charged $ 40 for it. I know they have to mark up parts but that’s a bit much. I brought this to the attention of the lady in the office (Lisa I think???) who said she would look into this. She called back later and said that’s the price and they aren’t changing it. Wow…
My fault this time. Next time for sure I will get a written estimate w/​a detailed breakdown of parts and labor for any work they do if I use them again and I strongly suggest you do the same! I also had another plumbing issue that needed repair but because they were so unfriendly that morning I only had them look at the original issue and called someone else for the other problem.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind paying a fair price for good work but I don’t like feeling like I was ripped off and I do feel that way this time around.

I had two instances where work was done that could have been avoided had the people involved been more honest. First my disposal did not work so they replaced it and then told me the switch was bad, not the disposal. Then then plumber volunteered to come back for $ 100 and fix the switch. I did it myself in about 30 seconds. The second instance involved a leaking water heater spigot. I called to get an opinon and the plumber went to the truck and called his boss and replaced the spigot. In retrospect, I could have probably tightened it with a screw driver.

Worse customer service EVER. Made an appointment for an estimate, no one showed up. Called the office, and there was a mix-​up, someone arrived 30 minutes after the two-​hour window of the appointment. Despite multiple phone calls (answered by a very unhelpful secretary), the estimate was never received. I cannot attest to the quality of their work because they never would return my phone calls! Do not contact this plumber if you want to have anything done!
