Very disappointed. Prices listed on website are wrong and staff don’t seem to want business. My daughter made an appointment for a 2 color dye which was listed on their website as $ 85.00. When we arrived, we had to wait to see Rene who was to do her hair. He did not seem happy to have this job. After my daughter sat down and selected the color, he told her it would cost $ 200. She told him the price listed on their website, but he said that was for one color. She didn’t have that much money so we left. Will not go back ever.

I found out about Sung Lim from a friend and was open to seeing him for a hair cut. I’m pretty picky about hairstylists and stick to them. I first went to see Sung in March for a clean up/​hair trim. I was really impressed with his knowledge of hair care and different styles. He knows what hairstyle goes well with the person and gives a lot of suggestions, but is never pushy. I’m definitely looking forward to getting my hair colored soon. I do like the fact that he is located in Rockville as well, but he tends to be booked up during the weekends so I usually see him during the week. & I really enjoy talking to him about random things during our session! I highly recommend him!

I’ve been going to Zach Sayag for hair cuts and color for years. He is a master of color and always is able to do exactly what I want!

My Mom YES my Mom has been coming to Shala Blackmon for years so I thought since I introd. them to each other why shouldn’t I try the fabulous Shahla. Only $ 30!!! For men’s shampoo style and cut at the most prestigious salon in MC. Great deal for best haircut of my life!!!

I’m so happy about my new hair! I told my stylist Sung Lim that I wanted to change my hair but was being indecisive about what kind of change. He suggested balayage after carefully examining my current color and it turned out great! He really took the time and effort to make sure the coloring wouldn’t come out streaky. Since the change, I’ve gotten several compliments. I also didn’t have to wait for him to start the appointment as I’ve done at many other salons. I even got a rose for Mother’s Day (even though I’m not a mom) just because, which totally made my day! :D

I’ve never came across a stylist who actually genuinely cared about my hair. That is up until I was introduced to Sung by a friend who had a stunning shade of brown hair, which for finicky Asian hair it’s rather hard to achieve bc it can easily become too orange, too red, or too blonde. Which fortunate enough for me was my current state of. disaster, if you will –_​-​. He knew what color I wanted, but rather than just going straight into it like most stylists would (or at least ones I’ve encountered), he thoroughly examined my hair’s current color/​condition, asked about my previous dye jobs, and suggested what the best option would be, which was to do as little damage as possible to my already damaged and very dry hair, meanwhile reassuring me that he’d achieve the color I wanted, if not more. After over 3 hours of hard work, patience, and a little (a lot of) magic, I’ll be honest, it came out a lot darker than my friend’s color, but with my previous brassy/​balayage/​ombré mess, it was honestly the best that it could be. And writing this review now almost two weeks later, it is fading out wonderfully (as it should, since he did demi-​permanent), and more and more like the color :) I finally feel like I found «my» stylist, one who I can fully trust with my hair! What a relief!!! Not to mention he’s a super cool guy, amiable and professional. Thanks to my friend for the referral and thank you Sung for doing justice to my hair! Also the receptionists at New Wave were super nice as well considering I had to last minute cancel/​reschedule my appointment a few times too. Highly recommend this salon and do yourself and your hair a favor and GO TO SUNG!

Love my new balayage done by Sung. I’ve had him cut my hair a few times and always love his work but today I went all out with cut and balayage and I am so happy with the results! Moving here recently it’s been hard to find a good hair stylist but Sung is better than good… He’s great! The lady that washed my hair was awesome too (can’t remember her name)… Best massage ever… Thank you Sung and new wave salon!!!

I don’t even know where to start with this place. I’m not one for bad reviews or anything like that as I understand some people may just have a bad day, but what this hair stylist has done to my hair — nobody should experience what I have experienced at this place.
A few pointers before I start: If you are basing whether you want to go this salon off the reviews, I recommend you only go for SUNG. Sung seems to do great work, however the hair stylist that I got (Zach Sayag), was the rudest, fakest, most dishonest, and the most horrible hair «stylist» I have ever come across unfortunately.
Not only have I felt rather unwelcomed from the moment I walked in by the receptionist, but also extremely awkwardly greeted — almost as though she were about to say «oh great, another customer». I put this down to them having just a stressful day despite the fact that the salon was rather empty on a Sunday afternoon. When I first met my stylist, Zach, I felt rather welcomed by him and had a good feeling about the whole thing. I showed him what I wanted (an ombré with a little bit of balayage, here is the picture I showed him:
) and also told him that I wanted a keratin treatment. He said no problem and that it would be an easy but lengthy job for him to do.
He first started out with asking me if I wanted to grab some lunch with him which made me feel incredibly uncomfortable (he asked about three times). Afterwards, immediately started doing his work and bleaching my hair, using all kinds of techniques all over the place. Some of the areas would touch my scalp where as others wouldn’t at all. I’ve seen an ombré being done before, and it looked nothing like what he was doing, however I’m not a hair stylist and I trusted him with my hair so just let him do his work. He kept telling me not to worry and that it will look great, and I believed him. Once he applied the bleach around my hair, he then sat me down in one of those heating seats for about an HOUR. I may not be an expert, but from that moment I felt a little uneasy with what was going to happen to my hair since bleach is pretty damaging to hair and rips it from its core. After he sat me down he seated me over to the washing area. He took out the foils, told me to lean back, and just left me there. The bleach at this point as pressing against my scalp and it BURNED. It burned like crazy and I was left there for about 20 minutes before someone came over to wash my hair. As the person was washing it, Zach told the person not to use any conditioner, which I was rather confused about, but once again I was trusting his judgement. Zach kept walking over while my hair was being washed and telling me that it looked great, but I could tell from the tone of his voice that he was not being completely sincere with me.
The Result: Yellow looking, completely unnatural hair that looked absolutely horrendous. Not even CLOSE to what I asked for. I probably could have done a better job myself. Video of the hair for proof:
. Zach kept lying to me that the hair looked great, and when I pointed out the parts that weren’t blended at all, he’d just put my hair over it and tell me «there, looks fine now».
The store was about to close and there was no way I wanted to work further with Zach since he clearly does not know what he was doing, so I moved on to paying for the hair job. The price came out to SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. I was charged for the hair dye, the hair cut which I did NOT ask for, and the keratin treatment. I remember him specifically telling me that he will charge $ 250 for the hair dye, and I was fine with that. I honestly regret paying the price of the hair job but at that point I was just so upset and depressed with the result that I just wanted out — besides, if I explained to the manager what happened I would get my money back, right? WRONG.
When I showed the manager a few days later what Zach has done to my hair (mind you during this conversation Zach kept jumping in even though he had a customer and rudely argued with me constantly, even getting a little touchy with my hair which I did not like), the manager was in denial and was being ignorant towards how I was unhappy with my hair. For some reason he could not see how what I got was nothing like what I asked for. I ended up getting refunded a mere $ 175 for the hair dye (even though I was charged 250). Once again I was so upset with how I was being treated that I just wanted to leave. Another remark, he for some reason asked where I was from, and when I told him, he gave me a snide look that made me feel incredibly uncomfortable. It almost felt like he was treating me the way he was due to my ethnicity (and trust me I HATE to pull that card).
I went to a different salon afterwards to fix my hair and even they were absolutely shocked with the results I got. I had to pay an additional $ 400 to get my hair fixed, and I couldn’t be happier.

I’m so satisfied with my new hair style by Sung. He catches so well what I want and turn that into an edgy, trendy style that looks so good on me! I wasn’t sure what hair color I want for the style and was being vague like «please make it a pretty color for me but I want it not too bright.». I’m so happy with the orange brown color he picked for me that complement my skin tone, he also dyed my eye blows for the same color, which makes my make-​up easy & stylish. He’s also very nice to talk to and provided really kind and sensitive services for me. Last time I had a small wound on my scalp from surgical procedure, and he was so careful with that and was genuinely concerned about that. I’m getting so much complements by others about this hair style being cute & edgy and am glad that I finally found my hairstylist who have wonderful skills and wonderful sense of style!

Called and got in the same day for a blow dry only. Spendy but, Marim did great work. They have a lot of beauticians so it is very noisy. They have a water pressure problem with their shampoo bowls. I was treated respectfully.

This review is long overdue, but I would like to share the fantastic experience I had with Sung! I needed a touch up on my bayalage and from what I gathered from the previous reviews, Sung was the one to see. I’m glad I took their advice because my hair came out amazing!
I came in on a busy Saturday morning (the day before Valentine’s Day) and was prepared to wait a little longer for my appointment. Surprisingly, I waited no more than 5 minutes when Sung came and greeted me.
So we go through the initial consultation, discussing my color history, etc. and what color/​style I came in for. I am not too picky with my hair and I usually leave it up to the stylist to help me decide what look to go for. I asked him to work his magic and just make me look pretty, lol.
Sung offered great advice and had an idea of what to do.
He really took his time and made sure every strand was taken care of. With my long hair, the process from start to finish took nearly 4 hours. Every minute was worth it!
I could write an essay, but I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Too bad the pics don’t truly capture his art.
I am happy to say that I have found a new salon and stylist :)

Today was my first expereince at New Wave Salon. I was very impressed with the service. My hair stylist was Nisan Sayag and he did an amazing job! I got light highlights with a filler color. Nisan is one of those hair dressers who is very attentive, caring, and takes his time to make sure you feel great when you leave the salon. I would most definitely go back to New Wave and I highly suggest making an appointment with Nisan (:

Jean-​Luc at New Wave Salon (formerly Rainbow) has been cutting and highlighting my hair for 14 years. Jean-​Luc is a French-​American, who learned his craft working under Bruno Pittini at the Dessange Salon in New York and at L’Oreal. He highlights my hair using the Balayage technique (the highlighting process in which a colorist hand-​paints or «sweeps» color through small sections of hair). Jean-​Luc never rushes his clients and always takes the time to make sure the client is 100% satisfied. I unequivocally recommend Jean-​Luc. Jean-Luc’s vast experience and extremely reasonable pricing has given him a loyal client base.

Just got balayage highlights done by Sung, who is absolutely fabulous! The salon was very clean and looked beautiful. There were a lot of clients for a Tuesday morning, so making an appointment (especially for something time-​consuming like highlights) is worth it.
Sung was so detailed with my highlights — and I have a LOT of hair. The process took a few hours, so be ready for a long appointment if you have dark hair like me. The staff were all very courteous and offered refreshments throughout the appointment. I couldn’t be happier with the experience! Thank you New Wave Salon and Sung Lim for an incredible experience. Worth every penny!

Barbara did my hair and it turned out awesome! For once. When I usually get my hair done, it’s never the way I want it (and was $ 20 more!). The shampoo lady was pure bliss and really gave me a massage. Barbara and I had a lot in common and she offered suggestions that I would have never asked for, but they turned out amazing. Coming back.

If you wanna change your outfit with amazing hair style, find Sung. He is the BEST hairstylist ever in my life. Thank you Sung =)

Nuri is the only person I want to color my hair. She does such an amazing job. It’s always so beautiful, I get stopped on the street and asked about it or complimented on it. She knows I am horrible about coming in regularly but is always willing to work around my crazy schedule.
I have been with her since my random stop in at Rainbow in the now defunct Rainbow salon in White Flint over 6 years ago. I am so glad SHE was open when I came in as a walk in. She makes me feel beautiful (and yells at me for always putting up my hair so you can’t see it) It would look horrible if she didn’t intervene. I love her for that!
I am so happy she is here. I would follow her to the ends of the earth if I had to.
The shop is beautiful but tight. Some of the staff are a bit irritable when you are trying to access your things when it’s crowded. This is why I hate going on weekends. I prefer the quite mornings.

Exterior: From Rockville Pike’s point of view, this salon is located behind Micro Center in Federal Plaza (you’ll see a Silver Diner and Ruby Tuesday). From East Jefferson St, turn into the plaza when you see a Panera Bread and the salon will be to the left of Seven Seas Chinese Restaurant. Conveniently provides ample parking space.
Interior: Modern décor. Bright and welcoming front desk area with a large selection of products. They are full service. Nails/​facials can be done in the back as it appears. A hallway of jewelry on display for purchase. Coffee, water, espresso provided! See pictures.
SERVICE: I made an appointment for a haircut with Sung. The overall experience and skill he demonstrated when cutting and styling was favorable to my requests. I decided last minute to add full highlights to my haircut. Results were natural and did not give me that horrid orange/​red color that black Asian hair normally gives off if the stylist doesn’t know what they’re doing. I stressed this fact to him and he made it happen. Keyword ASH people! Plus toner for sure.
I brought my mom here for a haircut the following day.
Extremely pleased with her cut. See pictures. ‘Nuff said.
Customer service was on point– I was given the option of a shot espresso, coffee, or lemon water. I’m a sucker for espresso and going that extra mile to please your client– BAM! Boosted this review to another star. Kept his work area tidy and had a confident demeanor about his work.
Overall, both of us loved our cuts. I’ll be coming back to do a color. Not feelin’ highlights on this face of mine!
