TantaWan Thai Cuisine

The green curry was quite watery… I’ve been to Thailand last year and I can say that this isn’t authentic.
Sure… we’re not in Thailand, I get it, but there are locations in SGV that have Thai curry that is thicker in texture.
Service was good though.

I love the food at Tantawan. The owner has a reliable understanding of gluten free and vegan accomodations. The meat dishes are wonderful as well. The place is clean, and I’ve always had good service. It’s a bit pricey, but when higher quality ingredients are being used, it naturally will be reflected in the price, but it’s also reflected in the taste. It’s the same principle when buying organics at the grocery store. This is the best Thai cuisine I’ve had on both sides of the hill.

Dinner was okay. The curry, soup and noodles was a little bland. At least the place was better than Dragonfly Thai.

The food is not the best, There is a waiter that seems to be completely bothered and unfriendly when taking our order and waiting on us. He does not smile or engage. Not the first time either!
We will be taking our business and our $ 55.00 check for 2 people to Dragonfly Thai right down the street who has friendlier waiters that say hello and smile and want our business. Will not be going back.

I would give zero stars if I could. Prices are outrageous and foods are just meh. Service is good and the place seems clean. My friend and I went there for lunch and we ordered 1 tom yum soup (with chicken) and 1 papaya salad (very skimpy with several small shrimps in it) to share, some brown rice (they charge extra $ 2 or $ 3 per serving), 1 glass of water and 1 tea. The foods are just so-​so and not that great, and the dishes are quite small. Not much freshness nor flavors in the dishes. Our total came out to be over $ 40, and with tips it is almost $ 50. It’s definitely not worth it for us to spend that kind of lunch money on the mediocre, unremarkable foods there. We have tried some other Thai restaurants on the hills and in Torrance before, and for the food quality, flavors and pricing this place is probably at the bottom of our list. We will never go there again.

Two stars for the recent price increase. I stopped by for the spicy noodles and with tax and tip it was $ 18 alone with nothing else. It was on the pricier side for Thai before, but the recent 15% increase does not justify my coming here again which is too bad.

This is the best Thai food in Southern California! I lived in Thailand for 2 years and I am originally from the east coast where Jaiya Thai in NY is one of our favorites:)

This is a fun Thai restaurant in an unexpected location. In is located about halfway between Bristol Farms and CVS in an outdoor shopping center on Silver Spur. There is a large parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so parking is never an issue.
In terms of the atmosphere, it is an artsy, open, and airy space with plenty of seating. What I like about this restaurant is that the tables and the booths are well-​spaced away from one another so you do not feel like you are too close to other customers.
As far as the food goes, as someone who travels to Thailand frequently, I believe I have a pretty good idea about true Thai food. As for the L.A. area, the best place to find the traditional style of Thai food is in the small restaurants in Thai Town in Hollywood. Most of the other Thai restaurants around the area present what may be called a California, Asian Fusion style of Thai food. Many of these restaurants I am not that fond of. TantaWan is an exception, however. They do it very well and their food is very good. For example, when you order one of their curry dishes they actually ask you how spicy you want it and they make it to order. Nice touch!
Overall the food is good, the staff is very nice, the restaurant is very clean, and it is a great place to eat.

This is LITERALLY and without debate the BEST THAI FOOD AROUND.
I adore eating. And I love Thai food. This place continuously serves up deliciousness that will make you a regular on the spot! Here are some of my favorite things to order .
1. Wonton Soup — if you think you like wonton soup, you haven’t lived until you’ve had it from here. Its flavors are rich and one sip will fill your whole body with warmth. And I’m not just talking about temperature-​related heat. It fills your body with the kind of warmth that makes everything feel good and your entire body relax. It makes you feel at peace. Whether you are coming down with a cold, need some comfort food after a rough day, or just really really like soup – this is a must try.
2. Yellow Curry — one word: fantastic. Not too spicy, not too mild, this curry is a bowl rich in color and in flavor. This is my favorite thing to get as a to-​go order from Tantawan. I always get it with chicken and extra carrots. if you like curry, or have ever wanted to try it, ORDER THIS.
3. Pad Thai — my mom and I have pad thai all over California, and Tantawan’s version of the dish puts all others to shame. The noodles are cooked perfectly. The flavors are vivid. It is a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ at every turn. I recommend eating it at the restaurant; my mom and i have found that when you reheat it, it loses some of its magic. Also, order it with shrimp if you like shellfish.
In sum, Tantawan is your destination for quality Thai food. My mom and I (as well as every person we’ve ever brought over there) endorse it and its delightful chef, Anusara, entirely.

What a consistent delightful place close to home. No airs here, just great and appropriate service, wine that is priced correctly and food is delicious. All this in a strip mall. It’s so wonderful when the place knows what they are and that customers are your bread and butter. Thank you for appreciating us!

I ate the curry lunch special with squid and salad. It was very tasty and the price is reasonable.

Ordered yellow curry, not impressed, I think the dragonfly Thai has better yellow curry than here. Again I have not eat authentic Thai food to my knowledge. And the price is over priced too. If you want a nice Thai restaurant, the one all the way up Hawthorne is much much better. Great view and great food.

The food here is always very fresh and very very good! The service is very very friendly as well.
Highly recommend for a quick bite before a movie and a take out for a cozy evening at home.

I was in the shopping center for other reasons and had time to kill. So, I decided to take a walk and look for a bite to eat. Came across this place and stopped in. One of the great decisions of my life. The food was superb. I had cashew chicken for the main plate and it was great. The appetizer was something I’d never had before but, will drive over an hour just to come back here. They were some kind of chicken dumpling but, not exactly. After one bite, I had a new food on my five all time favorites. And, the owner/​cook/​everything was wonderful. She asked how spicy I wanted my plate and made it just right. She engaged in conversation and seemed truly interested. Can’t say enough about its place. Will definitely be back.

Remember back in the 1970s when every restaurant in PV had horrible food and was overpriced?
Well, PV finally has entered the 21^st Century. We took my father out there for a birthday celebration and the food was excellent. The service adequate, but everyone is friendly and courteous. The food is excellent!

I WOULD GIVE ZERO STARS IF I COULD. You’re better off spending your money at Dragonfly Thai, which has about the same taste and is MUCH MUCH cheaper! Save your money and don’t come here.
I came here for a light dinner with my mom. We ordered an appetizer, two main dishes, a side order of rice, and two drinks.
Firstly, the portions for anything that is not noodles is VERY small for the price. Secondly, as it was our first time here, we asked for recommendations on which rice we should get to eat with one of the main dishes. The server recommended the coconut rice which we found was WAY TOO SALTY! We sent it back and got the regular white rice instead.
When we got the bill, we noticed that we had been charged for the coconut rice, which was a dollar more. When we brought this to the attention of our server, he said that if his manager had done it, she would’ve charged us for BOTH rices. He talked to us very condescending manner, like he did us a very big favor. He also kept saying that it was ONLY a dollar and that they had to waste the coconut rice.
Ok, I honestly don’t care about the dollar, but it was the principle of it!
My mom got pissed, and she asked him if that was her fault that that had happened. He said no, then proceeded to glare at us and put a hand in our faces, and said that he would change it. As he was walking away, he muttered, «Shit!» under his breath!!!
NEVER AGAIN! It’s a shame because we live about 5 minutes from here, and we LOVE Thai food. I guess we’ll continue going to Yum Thai Bistro in Redondo Beach for our Thai fix!

Tantawan is the BEST Thai restaurant that I have ever been to and I have been to A LOT!
The food is amazingly tasty, fresh, healthy, gluten-​free, and home-​cooked. The owner makes all the dishes and uses the freshest ingredients. She learned from her mom when she lived in Thailand. Talk about AUTHENTIC Thai food. It doesn’t get any better than this!
My wife CRAVES the food here as all she talks about now is the Yellow Curry dish.
The water she brings to the table is also filtered and delicious. Service is always excellent and we are so glad we discovered this gem of a place.

From their website — «In Thailand, the Sunflower is known as a Tantawan. These flowers symbolize the sun, with the warmth and the happiness it brings, adoration and longevity are also represented in the bright colors and open faces of the tantawan.» *I can’t recall seeing even one Sunflower there today.
This place is to the left of Bristol Farms. Parking is plentiful, but since there are a lot of shops in this area and depending on the time of day you arrive, you might need to walk a tiny bit.
Lunch date today! We arrived around noon and we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Not really a great thing, but it was what it was! A lady was busy placing flowers outside the restaurant, beautifying her restaurant’s exterior area. The inside is clean and there are some bright pictures on the walls.
My husband arrived before me and went ahead and ordered our food. I snapped a few pictures and the Thai Iced Teas were being served. If you are a fan of Thai Teas, I’d skip them here. They were not made how we’ve always enjoyed them, they were not sweet. I don’t know if the girl knew how to make them or not. I’ll pass next time.
Then came our soup & salad. The soup was flavorful with vegetables. Unfortunately, the salad was fairly basic, but the dressing tasted like straight up vinegar. Ewww! I’ll skip the salad next time, too!
As for the lunch entrees, they were both rather delicious! I enjoyed my Pahd Woon Sen with pork. (
) It has glass noodles which is tossed with egg, cabbage, celery, scallion and bean sprouts in a light garlic sauce. We got it spicy, so that added to the flavor! I love glass noodles and these were prepared well! My husband got the Pahd Thai which has thin rice noodles tossed with egg, scallion, and bean sprouts in tamarind Pahd Thai sauce with crushed peanut. (
) Usually, the pad thai he gets has flat noodles, but this was different. He also got his dish made spicy and enjoyed it as well.
We got the little condiment tray with the peppers. I love the marinated little Thai Chilies with my food! (
) We didn’t order any appetizers, so we had no other use for the chilies. To me, these peppers complement the the food!
Our server was attentive and helpful. She checked back a few times to see if we needed anything.
My husband ordered 2 lunch specials for us. Since we got our own lunches, we had leftovers and ate them for dinner. We thought they tasted even better reheated!
With paying lunch special prices, it was about $ 13 per person for the entrée & tea, not including tip. I would not come here and pay the dinner prices. I understand that one pays for the location when they dine up here on the hill.
I definitely would come back for lunch again! I really enjoyed my dish!

Great Thai food in PV! I was feeling adventurous so I took a trip up the hill. Went around Peninsula Center and decided to buy take out here. I got Pahd Woon Sen with chicken as my protein $ 12. It was realllly good! It’s a must get for first timer! Paired it with a thai tea drink for $ 3. They almost got a perfect 5 star from me but the thai tea was just okay, didn’t wow me. Honestly, you can skip the thai tea and order something else to drink. But since it is a Thai restaurant, they should master in making some bombass thai tea drink.
I will definitely come back and try the Pad See Ew (my favorite Thai dish to order at every Thai restaurants). This restaurant is dark inside! So dark that I had to look down at the floor as I was walking. It’s intimate and has modern décor. It’s a great place for a date! Great service.
