Archadeck of Chicagoland

I hired Archadeck to build a large pergola on top of my existing deck and attached to our house. The experience was excellent through out. Extremely professional! The other places we talked with just basically said, «ok, I’ll build you a pergolla for X$ (no sketches or discussion of what it would look like).» Archadeck on the other hand, came to my house and discussed all our needs to design the best pergola for us. The sales presentation was a bit canned but not pushy. Our sales girl (Maggie) was patient with us and professional. She showed us many different styles of pergolas that they have built. From this, they were able to get a feel for what we wanted. We then met at their showroom where they had sketches of two different pergola plans for our house. We also viewed 3D renderings of the pergola on an accurate rendering of my house. Our deck space had some odd angels and spacing, so seeing the sketches and 3D renderings was very helpful. They offered a unique design for our space that looked great.
We signed the contract on ⁸⁄₅ and they said they couldn’t build it until late September. The week before they were scheduled to come, they called to push the date back due to the rain putting their crews behind (it was raining that day, but no other day that week and the entire month of August and September were well below average in rain fall). I questioned why, after waiting over a month and a half, one day of rain a week before the job start was going to push my project back. I was not satisfied with their answer nor their demeanor. This was the only off putting part of the process. However, it turned out to be worth waiting for.
Finally the first week in October (2 months after signing the contract) a crew of just 1 man arrived to build the pergola. I thought it was a terrible idea to have just one man building such a large pergola, but I was amazed at how this guy did it. This guy was truly and incredible craftsman. Hauling huge ledger boards up the ladder and somehow nailing them up perfectly straight and level. He was also very nice and professional and meticulous. The price was on par with the other estimates we had gotten, but for the quality, unique design and overall experience, it was a steel! I highly recommend Archadeck!

I cannot say enough good things about Kristen and Dave Berryhill of Archadeck. They gave us an absolutely gorgeous three season room that fit beautifully within the design of our home, and followed our wishes exactly. Our construction crew was professional, had pride in their work, and always showed up on time and had excellent craftsmanship. Kristen listened carefully to what we wanted in a three season room and came up with a design that was within our budget and followed the requirements of our association. We are loving our room immensely and have received many compliments on it. Even the village inspector told us the room was done very professionally.

Like RS I found the sales process to be confusing if not irritating. Kristen kept asking us what our budget for the project was. We told her that the budget was whatever the fair market value of the work she recommended to be done to solve our problem. We wanted her expertise in solving our problem not in figuring out how much she could sucker us into paying. I took time off work to meet with her and walked away frustrated. We were told to allow 45 minutes for the appointment. 15 minutes into the appointment she was ready to leave, apparently there were bigger fish to fry elsewhere. We were promised a quote. 6 days later we received a two minute email with a rough estimate of double the budget we were coerced into giving her. No details, no ideas, no colors to pick from, no square footage, no written quote just a brief email trying to figure out if we could be suckered into paying too much for little or nothing. Kristen and Archideck Chicago do not even deserve the one star. They did nothing but frustrate.

I have NO understanding of why this company has such high ratings for finished work when their sales people shut down quotes before they are even done.
After being asked how much we expect to pay for this project, she said it would take twice what we estimated. Of course we were surprised to hear that and so before we even really had a chance to respond her response was — so are we done here?
What kind of sales tactic is that? You can play hard-​to-​get, or whatever that was, all you want. I am not going to be part of it. Meanwhile, this quote process had been completely inadequate — kept using decking terminology without explaining what it was and she did not do a proper job taking our input of what we were looking for (size, layout in the yard, tried to DOWN SELL us in features before we even talked price, and so on).
While we were looking through the dated pictures on her iPad choosing ones that had features we liked, an appointment reminder popped up that was at 3:30 (her appointment with us was had started at 3 and we hadn’t even sat down to talk yet). I suppose she had a bigger better deal waiting for her at 3:30 that she was willing to not try to land this sale and get to the next one.
Thanks for nothing except absolutely wasting our time! Do everyone a favor and only schedule quote meetings during times that people don’t need to leave work early for. Oh and have your sales people actually try to make a sale.
Good grief!

We moved into our new home in December, and right away wanted to replace an existing wood deck with something of higher quality and with a bit of «wow» factor. We were referred to Archadeck by a work colleague, and they were very responsive as soon as we contacted them.
They developed two distinctly different designs, and we discussed pros and cons of each before deciding. Because we planned ahead, we were able to get on their work schedule as soon as weather allowed (mid-​march)
Their pricing was very fair, and they delivered on everything as promised. We absolutely love the result, an interesting hardscape design with integrated hot tub and bar area. The quality is outstanding, communication throughout the project was excellent, and their work crews were very professional.
Highly recommended! Dave and Kristen were an excellent team to work with!
