This place has gone downhill. The Gyro meat was burnt and a spoon full of sauce on the Gyro. Wife and I both had stomach aches after eating the food. The place is filthy and very cold. Not the Skippys I used to go to. There’s other Gyro places with better food and cheaper prices. We won’t be back.

Back story: I moved to Hanover 4 years ago from Park Ridge. It was horrifying to leave PR since I had Wallys down the street from me(best gyros) but Skippys was a quick replacement for me. About two years ago the food started going down hill but was still more that acceptable. 4 months ago a witnessed the older lady behind the counter yell at the college girl working telling her not to give out napkins anymore because they cost to much… I came back today and ordered a gyros to go. When I received my order I asked for a napkin from the lady working(same one who yelled). She gave me the dirtiest look ever!!! Then she gave me one, literally one. I asked for a second because I just liked knowing it was making her mad and also I need two at least for a gyros dinner. She was so unnecessarily rude. The front of the restaurant is very dirty which makes me think the back of house is the same. Married ketchup bottles are the only thing on the tables except for day old food and spilled soda from other customers, no napkins ha. None of their games work, the tv is broken, the floors are sticky, the coke machine has been out of order for 6 months, and the painting on the wall showing rt 20 going across the county has been painted over. Don’t waste your money here. Maybe someone will come in and buy this place and turn is around. Guess I have to go to South Elgin or back to PR for a good gyros.

Point blank, I was very disappointed. I used to frequent the Skippy’s in South Elgin and THAT location provided excellent service and even better food. This location, unknowing if at all related, was sub, sub, sub par to what I’m used too. I ordered a chicken gyro with honey mustard and got a very thin serving of chicken, on a tasty pita, with a fat free honey mustard DRESSING — yuck. Lastly, I came in during lunch time and it took almost three minutes to be greeted. Just everything about my experience was unfortunate and disappointing. I could have went next door to a subway, spent $ 15 and got what I expected… Sorry, I won’t be back.

A very bad experience overall. The food isn’t overly expensive;however, the portions are very small. We ordered a gyro combo, which was served with very little, over salted meat. The fries were very disappointing, over cooked with very little flavor. We also tried the hotdog combo, which were just ok. The most disappointing aspect of the meal were the chili cheese fries. Not only were the fries mediocre, the portion size was ridiculous. The container was filled with a hand full of fries and a spoon full of chili. The restaurant itself was also not cleanly. The tables and chairs were dirty and old, ants were crawling on different items and the floors were sticky. I love these type of restaurants, but I would never return here because there are so many better options.

It’s been a while since I’ve been here so I’m not sure if it’s changed owners or what but their buffalo chicken wrap use to be the best around but what a disappointment it was this time. There was hard uncooked grains of rice in the wrap which shouldn’t have had rice at all. The cheese for the fries was clumpy. And meals were almost $ 10 a piece… WOW

DISGUSTING! I got a chicken gyro salad to go. I literally want to just throw it away the chicken is charred and dry disgusting… Not sure why it’s called chicken gyro it’s basically a basic salad with dry chicken on top. This is my first time here as well I expected way more but nope GROSS. Won’t be back! Also missing several things from my order called and she was sure we got it all! W. E no time for it. Keep my 25 $ and get a new chef!

Just had the gyros dinner plate. The gyros meat and fries were good but was disappointed with the salad. I know it’s only a salad but I always looked forward to it before. The dressing, feta cheese cube and calamari olive had no flavor this time. Makes me wonder what else has changed.

Prices are outrageous, not that clean and was totally empty at 12:15 in the afternoon. Had a gyros and small soda, no fries, just the sandwich, was almost $ 8.00, very expensive. I asked if I could have some gardinara on the side, I was told, sure for an extra .75¢, for another .50¢ I can buy a full jar. Food was Ahhhh, in my opinion! There are two arcade games in the place that have been unplugged and out of order for at least two years. I think the counter staff changes weekly, you never see the same face twice. I posted a picture so you can see the EMPTY restaurant. Take a pass and go next door

Skippys used to be great but has fallen is quality. It seems as if they have cut corners in every way. It pains me to write this because I used to go here all the time when I was a kid. Consider other options before going here.

Was unimpressed. Thoroughly. Normally I’d launch into the positives and negatives, but I honestly didn’t eat more than 1⁄3 if the gyro and 2 fries. Everything was gross. My friend didn’t even want to drink the soda cause the machine looked nasty.

Not sure how you mess up fries but this place has got it figured out. You can tell they’re holding onto every penny because the ketchup is watered down and you have to ask for napkins. And they’ll give you one. The tv is unwatchable. Reception is glitchy. The whole place is sticky. I’ve heard the gyros are okay but I won’t be going back to test that out.

Wife and I stopped in tonight(Sunday) to pick up dinner. No other customers in there, They are open until 7:00 and we got in around 6:35. Staff had apparently already started putting things away and preparing to close. Our order was two hot dogs, a beef sandwich, order of Fries and a pizza puff. We stood around for just over 20 minutes waiting for our order. Shortly after us, a lady came in and ordered two gyros but the guy in the back had already put the gyro meat away. He had to go back and pull it back out and put it back on the spit. We get home(10 minutes away) Hot dogs were chewy and cold, the bottom part of the hot dog buns were like wet cardboard and the beef looked like cold rubber. I realize that it is a Sunday night 25 minutes or so until closing but the standards shouldn’t fall THAT low. I understand getting ready to close but starting to put food away a full half hour before closing is a bit soon. The food may be okay at other times but I would highly recommend avoiding here anytime close to closing.

I beliwve this is my 3rd stop here. The flavor of the gyro meat is very good and the pita is soft n near perfect. I love Pop’s gyros. My first review at Skippys put Skippys on a pedestal. I do enjoy Skippys gyros but without trying anything other than the gyro I really cant have a strong opinion. As good as the gyro was on this trip, the first time was the best. Id say Pops and Skippys are close in a gead to head race. Its been a long while since Ive had pops to compare the two. I will have to follow up my own reviews.

Restaurant Review Gyro craving. When you are craving gyros this is a quick pit stop no frill dinner. Not too expensive with healthy helping of gryos and fries. My meals have always come out piping fresh. Not for anyone on a diet though. Staff is overall friendly. There is no major culinary discovery here, just good ol’ fast food joint. Four stars given relatively cheap price and the amount of food you get! Pro– Daily meal special, large portion size Con– None Hidden deal– 1. Earn united miles if your credit card is registered for united miles dining 2. Stopped in for a quick meal with the wife and in the attempt to be semi healthy, ordered up a gyro salad for about $ 8. Out came this GIGANTIC plate of salad with a healthy amount of gyro meat on it. And a nice small piece of bread to match.(We’re on paleo, so no bread…) Skippy’s is an old school joint for fast/quick kitchen food churned out as your order it… pricier than your fast food joints, better quality usually, and potentially slightly greasier. But if you’re in the need for a quick greasy spoon, worth checking out. Verdict: I’m semi biased having grown up in the area and visiting Skippys. Standard greasy spoon tasty food. With a surprisingly big and tasty salad! Will be back when we’re in the area and needing the fix!

Sigh. Why didn’t I listen to the reviews and skip right over you Skippy’s Gyros? People — please — listen up! This is why we use Unilocal. My husband was in the area and planning to grab a quick lunch to bring home to us. I was on the phone with him through the ordering process so he could read menu items to me and I ended up listening to him place the order. Honestly, I am so annoyed that I don’t feel like getting into it. But how do you serve gyros without the side sauce? He arrived home and there was no sauce. By the way, he DID ask for it. I wasn’t sending him back for ten minutes there and ten minutes back to have cold gyros with some sauce, so I called Skippy’s. The snippy girl offered a credit for $.25 of gyros sauce on our next visit. Next visit? What next visit??? The right answer would have been a credit for a gyros sandwich with sauce and then there would have been a next visit, so they could have proven these Unilocal reviews wrong. Instead, I declined their«Credit for Sauce» offer and they have proven that Unilocal works.
