Their items range from worth the price to not so good for the price, but I have to say that both their mackerel and pike mackerel in spicy sauces are REALLY good. A bit salty once you have too much sauce, but the meat has just enough chew to it and the flavor is addicting. The squid comes in the same sauce and also has a good chew to it. Their bulgogi kimbap is good but I’ve had better. I would stay away from the kimchi though. I don’t know if I had a bad batch or what, but it was WAYTOOSALTY and really watery. It had a really nice seafood brine taste to it, though and the spiciness kicked you towards the very end. All in all, struggling with the staples at the two corners of the box were too much work for this kimchi. Otherwise, they have fresh stuff out near lunchtime on weekends.

The cheaper meats aren’t bad at all. But the register at the counter was closed and needed to get into the supermarket line, a lil strange… But worth trying and will go back again!

Part of The Square Supermarket. It’s an expansion of their deli that was previously in the back of the store. Convenient because you can pay at their counter or take the items into the market and pay for them at the check-out with your groceries. A new item is this big bubbling pot of ox bone soup. Too bad I had gone in early today and it wasn’t ready yet. I’ve been wanting to try this dish. Looked & smelled pretty good! I’ve been picking up items here since they’ve opened and it seems like every time I’ve been in, they’ve put more different types of items out.
The marinated meats for KBBQ are A-OK. The picklings(banchans) are pretty good. The prices and quality are comparable to other Korean market delis I’ve shopped at. You can buy them straight from the counter or find them pre-packaged in the cold counter across the way. Hot items come in handy when I don’t feel like cooking. I usually pick up grilled fish and japchae. Not a fan of their kimbap though. What I always pick up is their spicy sashimi salad. It’s smaller in portion than what I pick up at other Korean markets and it costs more. But, it’s good and I’ll buy it anyways. I LOVE this type of salad. I’ll be happy to pick up items here when I’m doing my regular once-a-week shopping. The food’s convenient if you’re already here for other reasons. Note: The area in the back that was previously used for the hot deli items is now cranking out baked goods. You’ll now find those individually wrapped sweet breads there.

Do you miss your mom’s cooking sometimes? Do you want to eat KBBQ @ home? Do you want to impress your date with home cooked meal? Do you want a Korean mom? If your answer is yes for any of the above questions then Mama Shim is what you need. Located inside the Square Supermarket, Mama Shim is a nice addition to the market. Well not really an addition… it was a small counter inside the market before. They expand the section and call it «Mama Shim». Mama Shim is your own Korean mom. You can get grab & go meal(baked salmon, kalbi, bulgogi, bone marrow soup, spicy bean soup, etc), Korean side dishes(shrimp & veggie pancake, grilled macakerel, marinated squid, pan seared white fish with egg, etc) or marinated meat(kalbi, bulgogi & friends). I got marinated bulgogi and kimchi from Mama Shim. Not as good as marinated meat from K-town supermarkets but it’s good enough. 3 stars! Mama Shim is almost yummylicious!
