A 2 star seems to be rated as «meh, I’ve experienced better»…but the truth is, I don’t know if I have. I have yet to find a dentist that I really appreciate. As some of the raters mentioned, I agree that I think this dental office tries to «sell» you procedures to get more money. EVERY time I go to this dentist, he always mentions some work that I could get. He doesn’t pressure you, which is good, I suppose. But he does urge you again and again and makes it seem like urgent procedures. Also, my insurance plan offers two free cleanings a year but the last time I went in for a cleaning, I had to pay money. I didn’t question it at the moment but I should have. As far as the cleaning job itself, he does it quicker than other dentists and it still is a good job. However, this review is just to warn people. I switched dentist recently and I pray that he is better.

Everyone here is nice and comforting. Dr. Hou is a skillful dentist and is a smooth talker. It is obvious the office tries to sell you on procedures that you do not need some times. I added my fiancé to my insurance plan where teeth cleaning is free every 6 months. When I found out she paid for teeth cleaning, she discovered many past charges for procedures she never did. A clear example of up selling that happened to several people I know is recommendation to see a TMJ specialist to do possible surgery to correct the issue. He sits you down on the chair, examines your jaw, makes it seem like a big issue. If you research TMJ surgery, there is low success rate and a lot of dentist would not recommend wasting your money. There are several issues that may cause the problem, so you need to figure out what is the cause and remedy with non-surgical procedures first. No explanation about that. Surgery is the recommendation right off the bat. My current dentist has worse TMJ than mine and firmly recommended no on surgery. I would have stayed at this office, but left after this experience with my fiancé. Dr. Hou is good and communicates well, but just be careful on what they recommend. Is it necessary or not?

Although the staff and the Dr. Steven Hou are professional and nice, butI after finding out that some of recommended follow-up procedures are NOT necessary, I became quite upset and think that they simply want to extract more money from me. Some of the procedures are not not covered by my insurance(which is quite good) and others are partially covered. This means that I’d have to pay a lot out of my pockets. Many of these procedures have never been recommended to me by previous dentists and my teeth are very healthy. I’m UPSET!

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hou’s for over six years now. I moved to NYC two years ago but continued to see him when I visit home. He is a superb dentist — caring, skilled and professional. He’s one of the few dentists I know that truly enjoys taking care of patients(and not at all focused on the business aspect of dentistry). I’ve had the pleasure getting to know Dr. Hou a bit as a person over the years. While he’s an amazing dentist, he’s probably an even better human being. If you like your dentist, stick with him/her. But if you’re looking for a new one, this is the one for you!

Be careful patients! All this doctor cares about is $$$. I have insurance and the insurance covers cleaning. But he still charges me $ 45 for cleaning. Here is the medical billing code that the receptionist gave me. D4355– $ 45. D1352– $ 95. And I check the insurance benefit and I found out D4355 — No cost. D1352 — No cost. I insisted that I don’t want x-ray and he still wanted to take the x-ray because $ is all he cares. Please make sure you check with them before you make the appointment. And make sure you have a copy of your insurance benefit before you let them check your teeth. You don’t want them to double charge you and this is why our insurance premium keeps going up. Thanks for this type of doctor!

After 8 re-fillings, 3 wisdom teeth extractions, and countless check ups, I am still a fan of Dr. Hou’s. Starting with the office building, it’s nice, new, and clean! There’s a tv screen in front of each chair, which is a big upgrade compared to his old office from way back when; it sure keeps me entertained while I’m waiting. Overall, the facility is well maintained. The staff is always courteous and professional. The guy manning the front desk always accommodates to my last minute appointments. Thank you sir!

Good dentist but i had to wait a while even though I had an appointment. Expect to wait at least half an hour I haven’t been to a dentist in several years because I was a poor working student. So when I got my dental insurance, I went to Dr. Steven Hou, and he told me that I needed to have several fillings done, I kinda freaked out. I NEVER had a filling done before and I have heard the horror stories about how painful it is. Well, he did a great job. It wasn’t fun, but it wasn’t unbearable. He would stop drilling from time to time and asked if I was okay. He even stopped to show me with a mirror the cavities that had formed. =(They have a high tech computer, so they printed out a diagram showing the tooth that needed work. Dr. Hou and his staff members were very professional and friendly.
