London Calling Salon

Had hair done here again more recently. I’m incredibly disappointed this time. Especially after bragging about them to friends.

Ashlee does a wonderful job. Been going to her for over a year now. She listens, is friendly, knows her stuff. I’ve paid almost double of what she charges once before and the color was horrible. It’s hard to find a good stylist, at least for me, and she was a great find, thanks to a personal reference I received. This place isn’t a fancy upscale salon at all, but, usually those place are full of snotty full of themselves women anyways. Ashlee is a diamond in the rough.

Way too over priced. I had «hot roots.» My hair was too brassy/​warm. I had a visible line of demarcation. My stylist was an amateur. I was upset and unhappy, but the salon refused to make it right. I wouldn’t recommend it.

They did an amazing job on my hair color when I went and it lasted for months before it faded out. They are really friendly, really good and helped me out for a convention. Slightly pricey but worth it.

I just had my hair cut this week by Heather, who is amazing. She has always been honest with me about what I can and can’t expect out of my hair. She’s not afraid to try edgy new styles or look at one million hair pics from my Pinterest board and help me narrow it down. I am now taking my 13-​year-​old son to London Calling and he is quite pleased with his hair. I’ve always been treated very well here and I’ve recommended this salon to my family and friends, and I’ll continue doing so.

Here is a review, of my review on Facebook, before they decided to deactivate their page shortly after their nice comment to me… They show how unprofessional they are, not only to me as a customer, but to their staff that leave for another job offer. It blows my mind that they treated me that way just for leaving a review, but then they further went to Facebook and had my account deactivated for a few minutes, saying that I was using a fake name, which I am not. I use my married name. People are allowed to get married, aren’t they? Unreal that they have lasted this long with how they treat people. London Calling is an amazing salon! Everytime I get my hair done by DJ it’s perfect and exactly how I want it. I always get tons of compliments and I refer all my friends to the salon. All the staff is very friendly and I always enjoy my time in the salon! Highly recommend London Calling!

I really enjoyed my time at London Calling today! My hair had become flat and uninteresting, but Autumn really brought it back to life! My hair is usually really unruly but she had no problem giving me the bangs I requested (and I’ve not had bangs since 1998 so they wouldn’t be easy to style haha). She did an amazing job on the layers too, and took just enough off the bottom to make my hair look healthy. Autumn was extremely friendly and easy to talk to, and was an amazing listener, both when we were just chatting and when it came to how I wanted my hair.
For the styling, I paid $ 45.00, which is about what I’ve paid at other places too. I felt the price was fair.
I had an amazing experience and I’ll definitely be coming back! Thank you, Autumn and London Calling!

Very rarely do I ever write a bad review. I had the worst hair experience of my life in this salon. I came in for all-​over color, trim, and blow out. planning on looking nice for date night with my husband.
First, my bangs were trimmed way too short. I had asked for side swept bangs and got bangs so short I couldn’t even pin them back to hide them. I pointed it out and let it go because there was nothing anyone could do at that point and people make mistakes, no need to make them feel bad over it.
Next, I got an incredibly crappy blow out. I have moderately curly hair that has been keratin treated multiple times — it is NOT difficult to blow out. It was greasy thanks to some serum she used and felt rough at the same time. «Okay.well maybe blow outs are not this woman’s strong suit. I’ll wash it when I get home and fix it,» I thought.
So I paid and high-​tailed it out of there, very upset over my ratty hair and butchered bangs. I got to my car and looked in the mirror to survey the damage — THERE WAS HAIR DYE ALL OVER MY NECK, FOREHEAD, AND EARS. Now come on. That’s just pure carelessness and unprofessional, nothing to do with skill. I gave this stylist the benefit of the doubt up til then but that was just ridiculous.
And then they offered me a free hair product when I went back in. what good would that do?! I should’ve insisted on my money back but I didn’t. I would never go back to this place.

Now my hair is fine and thin. I have had a total of two stylists in my life that can make my hair not look fine and thin and insist that the only style I should have is a bob. Jessica, at London Calling works miracles with my hair. She listens to my ideas and styles that I like and tells me honestly what will work and what won’t and finds a way to make it look great. Same goes for highlighting my hair, again, with fine hair, it seems everyone forgets how little hair I have and a highlight ends up looking like I had my hair completely colored. Jessica does a fantastic job with color and highlights too. The salon is very artsy and everyone I have met that works there is very pleasant. I think the prices are very affordable too!

When I decided to make an appointment with Ashlee, I was excited because of the review I read. I was definitely a bit taken aback by the location & the décor but never one to be too picky about my hair, I decided to give her a shot & I’m so glad I did. It turns out she went to my rival high school & we knew a few of the same people. I decided to do my usual & tell her to do whatever she thought would look good but that I was trying to grow my hair out & she obliged. She kept my hair long & gave me long layers with feathery ends. My new haircut looked fantastic. I’d recommend her to someone in the area in a heartbeat.

I love this salon. I see a stylist named DJ and she dose wonders with my hair, which is naturally curly. Shari is also fantastic she cuts both my boys hair one is curly and one is poker strait.
Great place I highly recommend them.

I was ready for a new look. I read reviews on Unilocal and thought I’d give London Calling a try. I’m so glad I did! I just wanted a plain short cut, as I was tired of my long gray hair. Until I met DJ. She talked with me about some Ideas to change my look. She gave me a beautiful wedge (?) cut that complimented my face. DJ shaped the cut to add volume. It was fabulous! I’m going back soon. I’m even going to take my daughter for the works! DJ is friendly and knows her stuff.

My girlfriend stopped in to have her hair and makeup done for my sisters wedding on a recommendation from the Bride herself. The staff at London Calling was friendly and did a fantastic job. If I still lived in the area, this is where I would want to go and have my hair done!
London IS calling, and you should answer!

As an out of town visitor from Nashville to the Detroit area for a family member’s wedding, I wanted to find a salon to have my hair styled and makeup done the day of the wedding. The bride recommended London Calling. I called about a week in advance to make the appointment and had no problem getting the time I needed to make it to the wedding on time.
Upon entering, I was welcomed with a friendly smile and greeting that was carried on throughout my entire visit by every stylist I met. They really made me feel welcome and not out of place, even though they knew that I was from out of town and wouldn’t be able to be a regular customer.
My makeup stylist and esthetician, Felicia, tweezed my brows even though I had forgotten to request that when making the appointment and completely transformed me from a plain and simple girl from the South into a stunning and beautiful wedding attendee within an hour. She provided small tips and never made me feel immature in my lack of makeup and skin care knowledge. She even did minor touch ups after my hair style before leaving the salon. I felt confident that she wanted me to look my best.
My hair stylist, Niki, took a moment to listen to my request for hair style then thoroughly shampooed and conditioned my hair. We talked while she blow dried and styled my hair, and I felt vey comfortable during the time she took to pamper me. She gave me tips on how to combat the high humidity of where I live and even recommended some places to eat in the area, since she knew I was visiting.
My experience at London Calling couldn’t have been better. Everyone made me feel so welcome, which I don’t always find when visiting the North like we have in the South, and everyone made sure I got out in plenty of time to make it to the wedding.

I worked at a salon for over 10 years. Only one person has ever waxed my brows or cut my hair since I was 19. I’m 35 now.
Anyway, after a few mishaps with old faithful I decided it was time to move on to greener pastures.
London calling has such an awesome reputation all together so that was my first stop. I figured «well if they screw up it always grows back, right?» ahaha!
I made my first appt for just a brow wax the super friendly girl who made my appt (Bernadette) set me up with Erica.
Now let me tell you about Erica she should walk around with some sort of badge, or crown, maybe a medal of some sort that says I AM THE EYEBROW WAXING QUEEN OF METRO DETROIT!!!
Yes kids that is how much I frigging love the way Erica does my brows. Who would have thought a eyebrow could be so awesome!
I loved her work so much I let her cut my crazy curly hair and she cut it PERFECT. (go see her and tell her I sent you)
If I could make you all go to London Calling I would. But for now just take my word for it. Go there. See Erica! See anyone! You won’t be disappointed! Promise!
Coolest salon ever!

I’ve been going to London Calling for about 15 years. Fifteen years!!! (They were at a tiny little store down the street back then…) Normally I’m not that loyal of a person to things like this and I’ll just go where ever the coupon takes me. However when I was nineteen and had been dyeing my hair black for years and years, I decided to go red. I tried it myself and I ended up with red two inch roots and about eight inches of black hair. It was a MESS. I got out the phonebook and found London Calling, specializing in corrective color. What a god send.
I’ver been seeing Sheri since for my color and she is AMAZING. Every time I get new color people rave about it. She has done my hair so many different colors its ridiculous. Every single time its been a crowd pleaser. More importantly, it thrills ME. Shes done brown, red, gold, orange, pink, blue, red — you name it. All on my head. Right now I have FLAMING red hair and it really lasts longer than your normal bright red hair. Because of Sheri. :)
I sometimes go to others for my cut if she is booked up (because she’s amazing)
There was one visit when I wasn’t happy with the results (Not with Sheri! Some guy) and I wrote the owner a letter after not being able to resolve it with the stylist (who isn’t there anymore) Norm answered my letter so fast it was shocking. He thanked me for letting him know, thanked me for my continued business and invited me in to get my hair the way I wanted for free. I did and it turned out fabulous. Because I went to Sheri. I’ve recommended dozens of people there and most of them have all made it their regular salon too.

This salon is great. It’s super trendy and they are up on the latest styles and trends there. I had the pleasure of having Andrea cut my hair and she did a great job everytime. The price was reasonable and I felt very comfortable there. They do more than just hair cuts, but I have yet to try a waxing or a dye job. I love that they have the salon inside an old house. So much character. love it!

I have been going for at least 5 years and go nowhere else. The receptionist Stacy is really nice, too!
I am a guy and have had my hair colored and just regular cuts and never been disappointed.

I recently realized that for almost two months my hair has been so thick and unmanageable that I’ve only been able to pull it into a ponytail, or maybe a messy bun when I’m feeling girly. «Time to put a stop to that», I thought… But oh no! My favorite stylist is unreachable! What to do?
Get London Calling on the phone and schedule an appointment, stat, that’s what. I hadn’t been there in about four years, because their prices were more than my parents were willing to pay, but I remembered them being very responsive and doing a great job on my short hair, and I figured I’d give it a shot.
After a terrible mix-​up with an ATM, I was half an hour late to my appointment and feeling rather foolish. Erica managed to work her schedule around and fit me in anyway, for which I was incredibly grateful. Bonus points there. She could have very easily handed me off to a co-​worker, but instead she washed, cut, thinned and blow dried my hair– without rushing!– and pulled it off with aplomb. She breathed new life into my boring bob, and I walked out with more confidence than I’ve ever felt with even the cutest ponytail. I did pay $ 40+tip… but can you tell me a place that good for under that price? I’m a quality-​oriented girl, and trust me, your head will feel so good that your wallet will forgive you.
Also, I don’t believe I’ll be needing this service, but I was told that if I was dissatisfied within TEN DAYS, I could come back and have it fixed, no problem. TEN. So to anyone complaining about having a «crappy» cut or color… No offense, but I’m guessing that’s your own fault for not taking advantage of their offer, or not communicating well in the first place! Hair should be hands on. If you’re not in control, who is?
Long story short, I got great customer service, a good value, and a subtle cut that made an amazing difference. That sounds like 5 stars to me!

There is nothing «fashion forward» about this salon. Actually it is like… Santa Cruz, California 1998. The interior is dated, the stylists suck, and everything is extremely overpriced.
I’ve been there a handful of times, once to get a cut/​color/​highlight that set me back almost 300 dollars and didn’t even look good. I had to have it corrected a week later because the woman took it upon herself to make my hair look «edgy» or something when I just wanted pretty natural color. If you can’t even do that… are you really that talented?
Another time I went to get a SLIGHT bob to my medium length hair. I was met with a disapproving stylist who went on to tell me that is all she ever does. Perhaps I was supposed to feel stupid for being so trendy and jumping on the Posh Spice bandwagon or something… I just wanted a nice and polished hairstyle.
So yeah. never again. That place is a dump. The artwork on the walls is really dumb, too.

London calling… many friends have raved about it. I went, got completely the wrong color-​and a crappy hair cut for about $ 200 bucks… and the staff isn’t all that great. Not very friendly-​they basically bragged about themselves the whole time trying to proclaim their hipness. bleh.
I’ve seriously had better customer service at supercuts.
If you want to pay insane money to have tattooed girls mess up your hair with whiskey breath this is the place for you.

Best salon ever! LC has exceptional customer service and the stylist do everything to make you feel like welcomed, confident and look amazing! Never seen anyone walk out unsatisfied and I have never been either!
They also do annual Hairballs that benefit Juvenile diabetes which are CRAZY and FUN!

Janee: She’ll do it all! Perms look outdated when done anywhere else EXCEPT LC– Janee throws down! she can make you look like you are a beautiful natural curly haired gal! She can do your hair, your moms hair and your granny’s hair and make everyone look amazing, trendy, and confident!
Erica: The one to see if you are a man in need of a great men’s cut. She’ll do it short, she’ll do it long, she’s crazy! but I love her and her skillz
Debbie: Ah, the Debbinator! Need a pixie? YOU MUST SEE HER! Meticulous, precise, on point and so cute!
Andrea: MEN! Real MEN! I mean the guys age-​range 45+ who have a great head of hair and want that «sitting by the fire, smoking a pipe, in your robe and slippers feathered back MANS look» Andrea’s your gal! Think Big in sex and the city. Mans cut.
Shari: Stuck in the 80’s goth, industrial, whatever that time was? (i wasn’t allowed out that late) Man or woman or both? This girl can give you an edge, dark cut, color and style. Men who want rocker mullets she’s your gal.
Niki: This girl will do it with a razor, straight blades, texturizing shears, everything — trendy, conservative, and AMAZING up do’s
Stacy G: Such a spit-​fire with great skillz for men, women, children. Trendy as New York but down to earth like Detroit, she can do it all.
Noelle: Ah Noelle! The original employee (?) don’t quote me on that, but I think so. She is brilliant. Very calm and exact. Patient yet assertive. She’ll give you a great cut or color — but she’ll make sure you know whats up before she gets going. this way you will be completely satisfied!
Jan: Excellent communication skills — makes you feel good and look good. She does it all. Perms, color, cuts for men, women and children. Such amazing skills and talent!
Keri: She’s been with LC for a while and knows the salon, the styles, the color and customer service inside out. Such a sweet girl who will guarantee you get exactly what you want. She’s priceless.
ALL IN ALL: LC is a pool of talent! The girls communicate to know what you want, will tell you NO if you run the risk of not being satisfied (or your hair falling off with «one more color») and are great personalities to boot!
