Skydive Spaceland – Houston

My boyfriend and I went skydiving for the first time here. We ordered the video package. I was quite nervous, considering I was about to jump out of a plane. The staff was friendly. My tandem instructor was super chill. He made me feel at ease. The woman who did the video was awesome. She was peppy and did a fantastic job filming the dive.
For those who deal with motion sickness: take something to help. I got nauseous from the plane ride and except for the dive itself, I felt sick for the rest of the day. I should have thought about that before we went. However, it did not take away from the awesome experience.

I had an absolute blast!!! The process is quite long, so don’t plan anything afterwards. It takes 3 – 4 hours. We had a wait because it was very windy at times, and it wasn’t safe to jump. It gives you s major headache afterwards so stock up on the Tylenol and perhaps need a nap afterwards.
When we first arrived, we fill out an EXTREMELY long form. Basically signing your life away. It states over and over again how you can’t sue them if you die, and it’s not their fault if the instructors didn’t give you the right directions or if the equipment malfunctions. I was shocked about all the things I read. It’s really expensive the first time, $ 250. Thank God this was a birthday gift. I personally wouldn’t buy it for myself for the first time.
The package of $ 250 only includes a picture. You can buy video packages starting from $ 119 is DVD but the resolution is 480 p and that’s no Bueno. Reminds me of the old YouTube, super pixelated. $ 139 is DVD resolution 1080p. I forgot how much it is for the 480p flash drive, but it’s $ 159 for 1080 p flash drive. I think it’s crazy but everyone says it’s not worth it if it’s only a picture. My DVD came out okay. I loved that they captured all those shots of me. It’s fascinating showing my loved ones, my favorite memory.
After signing in up, you go upstairs for basic instructions and you need to watch a dvd for about 10 – 15 mins I think. Go down stairs, change into your jumpsuits and wait till we walk to the plane. Walking to the plane is quite nerve-​wrecking. «It’s actually happening» feeling. Super crowded in the plane, but the spirit of all the sky divers is so high, all of it is an adrenaline rush! It was cold when we jumped out but it is end of October so expect a cold afterwards and a lot of exhaustion. My diver was Tony!, he was really great! While I was up there, after we pulled the parachute, he was telling me where everything was from the sky! Overall, my experience was spectacular. Only reason I’m rating it 4-​stars is because the dvd turned out okay. I could barely hear myself, even though they tried to fix it and turn the background music down.

Finally I can cross this off my Bucket List! Absolutely amazing experience! The staff and facility is top notch. They make you feel comfortable and safe. We did a Valentine’s Day sunset jump and it was the most exhilarating thing I have experienced thus far! If you are planning to skydive in the future definitely give Skydive Spaceland a try! Best Valentine’s Day ever!

July 4,2015 will be a day I never forget! We arrived about an hour before our scheduled jump time and Alex checked us in! (Shout out to him!: We have the same name and birthday!) I knew it was meant to be!
About 2 hours later (it was super busy because of the holiday weekend) we met up with our jump partner. Tommy was Awesome! He made me feel relaxed on one of the scariest days of my life. He talked me through everything and we climbed into the plane. 20 minutes later we were back on the ground (without jumping) due to weather. They told us to hang around for 30 minutes and we would try and go again. Not 10 minutes later I heard we would be going back up! 30 minutes after that, the whole event was over. It was amazing. I’ve traveled a lot. Gone ziplining in Costa Rica, white water rafting in W. Virginia and countless other «dare devil» things and this was by far the best.
I swore when we got to skydive spaceland this would be a once in a lifetime event, when I hit the ground, I said «sign me up again!» Amazing! Thanks for the experience!!!

This review starts about two years ago when I set up a birthday tandem for my wife, a few friends and I. It was a painless and awe inspiring experience from start to finish. The hooking was easy, no deposit required and we all got a discount because of the larger group. As the organizer, I got a little better.
The office staff and super friendly and very accommodating. Fortunately we went on a beautiful day & had no issues getting everything paid for and started. The tandem instructors and videographers are super nice and help out you at ease.
Since then, my wife has done a second tandem and I have actually taken it up as a hobby. Spaceland is one of the best in the business, from your first tandem though their skydiver training program and beyond.
Don’t give it a second though, this is the place to go!!!

Treat to myself for my 42^nd birthday. If you’re going to jump out of a perfectly fine plane at 14 000 feet, this is the place to do it.

Let me start off by saying skydiving is GREAT!!!
First did it here in 2009 and did it again this past Saturday (⁴⁄₄). I will certainly do it again anyday, anytime. The customer service is good. The employees/​instructors are friendly. My instructor (the person who I am harnessed to) was Casper. Check him out! Nice guy.
Beware that there is a lot of paperwork to sign. Maybe 16 pages (you’re signing your life away). They do take walk-​ins. After your 1^st tandem jump, if you sign up for a 2^nd jump that same day, its $ 99. No expiration date. If not, you will still get a discounted price whenever your next jump is ($ 179, which is what I paid).
The only downside this past Saturday was the wait time (6 hrs). And this was purely weather-​related. It was a sunny but very cloudy day. No rain. Unfortunately they have a rule that they do not jump when it’s cloudy. There were many people ahead of us since morning who did not get a chance to jump. We left and came back without registering so we were literally the last set to jump. In spite of the long delay, we got to see the sun set while 7,000 ft or below in the air. The jumping experience does go by fast though.
As per the video/​photo package, I got it on my 1^st jump. It was well worth it. It’s a prized moment imo. I’ve played it a couple of times to people.
In short, you will feel nervous and scared (I did both times) but it’s so worth the thrill to jump off a plane at 14,000 ft!!! If you’re deliberating over it, JUST DO IT!

I had an absolute blast on my first visit back in November. It was my first jump I was celebrating my 29^th birthday. I was terrified of heights but my tandum Dan made me feel safe. It was definitely the scariest, coolest thing Ive ever done. All the divers were really cool and awesome. My videographer Chris was amazing and did a fantastic job. I took away a star because of the receptionist. One of the friends who jumped with me was a little on the heavy side. She worked out and went on a huge diet so she would be under the weight limit when we jumped. She lost 18lbs for the jump and when we went in the receptionist asked her to step on the scale and weigh and according to their scale my friend was 5lbs over so she was required to pay a“fat tax”, she told the receptionist how hard she worked to lose the weight and the receptionist was like well your still over 5 lbs. My friend was crying in the bathroom after that. So other than the receptionist the rest of the experience was really awesome! !! My friend jumped with Benji and he was super Hilarious and made us laugh the whole time. I would definitely jump again and request Dan as my personal Tandem.

My boyfriend (now fiancé) and I went here for the first time today! He had never jumped before, but I had jumped 1 other time about 4 years ago. All of the staff that we encountered were super friendly and helpful. Everything was cleaned and moved quickly so that you didn’t have to wait too long. We both opted to get a videographer (which was worth every cent!). He took a lot of pictures of both of us and a lot of video. At the end of our jump, my boyfriend proposed and both videographers were on top of it and got great video. All of the staff knew of his plans and did their best to make our day special.
Compared to my other jump, this one was way better. There was more training so I knew what to expect and you got to be more involved in your jump (you can actually pull to let your parachute out, you can help steer the parachute, etc.)
Overall, we had the best experience and would recommend Skydive Spaceland to all!

Had the time of my life!
The staff is so laid back and knowledgeable and they make sure you feel safe and comfortable. I was nervous but said what the hell let’s get er done and I am so glad I did.
It was the most freeing and peaceful experience I have ever had!!! I would definitely go again.
My cousin got the video and I thought it was expensive but after I saw how great it was I wish I would have gotten my video.
Here’s a tip make sure you have a light meal before you jump, I went on an empty stomach and was jacked up for the entire day.
This place and these guys rock!

What many would considering a terrifying experience (including myself) turned out to be one of the most amazing feelings I have ever experienced.
Let’s start with check in — there is a lot of paperwork basically saying your signing your rights of suing away… It’s a little nerve racking to read it but you have to sign and initial or you aren’t jumping.
Training class — was short simple and straight to the point.
Be prepared to wait after the class especially since we have summer showers in Houston. We arrived at 3 and didn’t jump until around 6:30ish. To be fair there was weather delays. The wait is comfortable — plenty of seating outside (you can bring your own food and drinks and I recommend it). They do have a deli in case you need anything.
Meeting your instructor — these guys have been jumping all day and yet they make you feel like you are their first jump. They are all friendly, relaxed, and CRAZY (in a good way). As long as you listen to them you will have a good dive. I truly feel your instructor is what makes you experience better because they have some strange way of making you relaxed and not worry about the crazy idea you just signed up for.
I highly recommend HazzMatt, Benja, and Donny. They were hilarious as a group and made all my friends really enjoy the experience.
Video/​Photos — I didn’t purchase it but wished I had. We had one member of our group who did and the videographer did a great job. He was equally crazy and funny as well (sorry I didn’t catch his name). The video was really awesome though so purchase it!
Finishing up — your instructor reviews your jump and welcomed you to your second jump. If you sign up for it there is a special going on right now. Each jump is a step to the next level and apparently teach you additional things on each jump.
Overall a damn good experience from checking in to landing. Thrilling but not scary at all.

A gift certificate to go skydiving at Skydive Spaceland was definitely the coolest gift I’ve ever received. Staff were very helpful and personable from my initial call to schedule my skydive to the moment I picked up my video/​photos afterward.
Get there early, sign your life away, watch a quick training video, and then wait for your name to pop up on the flight list. On the day of my jump, it was quite overcast so I waited around a good while for clouds to clear. And then after getting suited up and meeting my instructor (Hank 4.0…not sure what happened to the earlier versions!), I had to wait another hour and a half when the clouds blew in yet again. A bit of a bummer, but it was very reassuring that the staff was safety oriented. The staff were very friendly and kept us entertained while we waited on the weather to clear up.
The actual jump was such a rush. Falling from 14,000 feet is an incredibly freeing experience. From the the 120 MPH freefall to gliding peacefully back to earth, it’s an experience that is hard to describe. So I highly recommend you go jump out of a plane yourself!
The only issue I encountered was a mix-​up with my video. To let you know your video and still photos are done, the video crew will play your video in the waiting area. My pre-​jump interview starting playing and all seemed well. Then cut to the actual jump sequence and suddenly I’m a man! Somehow my footage had gotten mixed up with an earlier jumper’s. It was funny at first, but it did cost me a good deal of extra waiting time. That being said, my instructor, cameraperson, and the manager all came out to apologize and assured me they would do all they could to track down my footage and photographs, which they eventually did. I was pleased with the way both turned out and are priceless memories that were worth the wait.
Weather and video mix-​up issues aside, the folks at Skydive Spaceland do all they can to ensure you have a day to remember and make it back safely to the ground so that you actually get the chance!

Picture this. You’re suited up, strapped tight to your new best friend (AKA a stranger you just met 5 minutes ago), riding up into the clouds in a janky airplane with the door hanging wide open and cold wind rushing at your face. At 14,000 feet, you wobble timidly to the door, and leap (with the same dude attached to your back).
It’s bizarre and unnatural, isn’t it? Who in his right mind jumps out of a fully functional airplane? If you can get over the absurdity, I promise it’ll be the most exhilarating experience of your life. It’s almost impossible to describe what the free fall at 120 MPH feels like, all I know is it was amazing enough for me to want to do it again the moment it was over.
The free fall only lasts for only a few minutes — just your body in the sky, being pulled to the ground by gravity. Before you know it, it’s time to deploy your parachute. But the fun’s not over yet! You spend another 6 – 7 minutes suspended high up in the air, enjoying the view (Houston’s skyline has never looked so beautiful), and if you don’t get nauseous easily, your new best friend will do some spirals and spins.
Skydiving has always been on my bucket list, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared sh*tless on the flight up. I told my instructor that I was truly TERRIFIED. He laughed and gave me a great piece of advice– don’t look down before you jump; look ahead into the horizon.
The instructors really are the key to making you feel as safe and secure as possible in this nonsensical situation. My instructor quit his day job to skydive full-​time, and I felt more at ease when he said he has over 3,000 jumps under his belt. Until of course, the instructor next to us said he’s done 14,000. Okay, show off.
We missed our reservation by 90 minutes, but our wait time was only an hour. I was expecting to wait much longer, so when they called our names, I wasn’t even mentally/​emotionally prepared yet. The truth is, you can’t prepare your mind for this. You just gotta do it!
If you can convince a bunch of your friends to go together, there’s a group discount. People are either like, «Hell yea, LES GET IT» or «Over my dead body.» Video and photo package is an extra $ 100, and you’re essentially buying Facebook likes. The adrenaline crash afterward is very real. Everyone was exhausted, but already thinking about our next jump. I dare you not to get addicted to this rush.
Final tip: EMPTY YOUR BLADDER BEFORE YOU GO UP.

Wow. What an experience! I recently set a weight goal for myself this past December to reach my first goal by my January birthday. I was able to reach it and booked an adventure but it was cancelled due to low clouds but no worries we we’re given a rain check.
Last Saturday I jumped with a group of people that included my old high school teacher, two great kids who work for me and a student.
Going as a group is definitely fun as you get to experience with people you enjoy.
The instructors and videographers are professional, fun and amazing. I’m hooked and definitely will return.

Overall, it was an awesome experience! I had a great time. My only disappointment was with the part of the video and the outcome of some pics due to super overcast weather (out of their control). For the video, you have to choose genres of music for them to put to your video, and mine came out with the crappiest/​cheesiest background music that I didn’t like at all. The video would have been perfect if it didn’t include cheesy tunes, or if you got to preview them on hand before picking a basic genre and having no idea what it will sound like.
If you’re curious as to what the day will look like:
–Arrive and fill out paperwork (literally sign your life away)
–Sit in a 20 min class or so where an instructor goes over the basics and you watch an informative/​instructional video
–Suit up once your information is on the monitor outside
–Tandem helps get you all set up and goes over everything again
–Hop on the plane and you all hop out at 14K feet!
It all goes by soooo fast… except the plane ride up feels like an eternity. The staff is really knowledgable and they all have a great sense of humor. They will most definitely joke around and give you a hard time, but they know their stuff and make the experience really great. I’d totally recommend going at least once, and if you like it, definitely buy the 2^nd jump for $ 99 (never expires)!
If you have the luxury of planning to go during a week with a pretty perfect forecast, then do that. Obviously it will make for a quicker and easier jump but it will make a difference in the outcome of your pictures and view during your jump.

I WANT TO GO AGAAIINNNN!!!
Who knew that you could drive right outside of town and within about 30 min of signing up you could be jumping out of a plane?! Well that’s what we did. My friends and I signed up for a tandem level 1 jump. We weren’t sure about weather and everything and our group wasn’t big enough for the discount, so with no discounts for reserving or having a group, I paid ~$ 200. Since it was my first time, I decided to pay for the video/​pictures which ended up being like another $ 100… an expensive day, but it was SO worth it.
SO here’s how it works. You get there, sign your life away, pay, get weighed (BTW weight limit is 280), watch a 15 min video, then wait for your group to get called to jump. When you’re up, you meet your instructor, they reiterate the crash course you just watched, give you a onesie to wear, strap you into your harness, and off you go!
The instructors were fun, knowledgeable, and made me feel safe (or as safe as I could feel for jumping out of an airplane!) My video was super worth it!
OK once you’ve jumped, and safely landed and your adrenaline is going, if this is your first time, they offer you to buy your next jump for $ 99 and it never expires. OF COURSE I totally bought it… which actually, one of my friends who was with me used her jump that she had bought that way at least a couple of years ago. ALSO, TIP your instructor/​camera dude!!!
In the end, I was out like $ 400… ouch. BUT, it was an AMAZING experience, I felt safe and taken care of the whole time, and I know I’ll be back. The people here were great and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for my first time skydiving.

They are very professional. Safety oriented, sooooo different from my jump in TN years ago.
Some of the tandem jumper instructors are more fun than the others. Most are humorous and want you to have a good time. Others more serious and not as engaging. HOWEVER, all were focused on you enjoying self and not dying.
I apparently was too gung-​ho, because when my instructor had me start going to the door, I went for the door, I was trying to lead (as I was in front), and focused on trying not to stumble on in the plane. Well, I think better to have the instructor push you more, I didn’t bend over low enough and he bumped his head (i did not want to bump mine).
Once we jumped it was good free fall when I pulled the chute (they let you do it unless they sense you are having difficulty) and then loosen straps so you can help steer and land. MY shoulder straps dug in when I had my arms extended all the way up (I guess it is kind of what the ladies feel like wearing bra straps all the time. ;)))
Landing was either on butt or feet, the instructor will decide as you land. I went with two other people, and one landed on her backside.
Plane was big, we had three in our group and another 2 plus 4 camera people.
You can get a film. I liked the filming, but my first jump, my tandem instructor had a handheld camera, here they have a separate jumper. So you get pics and video during free fall close up and some after the chute is deploying but not recognizable. Then they get you landing. I spent the money for the DVD (bcs regretted not getting first time I jumped). You can pay extra and they will throw it all on a flash drive also.
They are very good, and we all bought a 2^nd jump at half the price. They open early but plan on at least 2 hours (more on busy days). We will be going again soon.

The employees that you initially deal with for all your paperwork, questions, forms, and payment are friendly and helpful. They helped me answer all my questions and paperwork. The tandem guy that jump with you are not as fun but these guys make dozens of jump on a daily basis, so to them it’s just a routine. You’ll feel a bit rushed since they try to knock out as many people as they can in one day.
My camera guy kind of rushed my interview but did a great job capturing my jump! I highly recommend paying the extra $ 100 or so to have it filmed. It comes all in a CD or USB (if you pay more). Definitely worth it to scare your parents!
Overall it’s a fun and unforgettable experience. Checked off my bucket list!
Advice:
–If you go on a dark cloudy day, your jump may get cancelled and no refund. You’ll have to just reschedule.
–Go early! Earlier the better so you don’t wait as long
–Bring cards or a Frisbee

Ein SUPER Erlebnis, ich bin mit einer Freundin gesprungen und wir hatten riesen Spaß.
Wenn man möchte springt auch ein Kameramann mit, natürlich kostet das schon was. Ich habe mir es trotzdem gegönnt, und die Aufnahmen sind schon cool.
Wenn man keine sechs Tandemsprünge nachweisen kann, darf man nicht alleine springen. Sondern man darf dann nur Tandemsprünge machen.
Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und nett.
