History
Established in 2000.
Skydive Spaceland is a three-generation family-owned and –operated business located in Rosharon, Texas, about 20 minutes south of downtown Houston, Texas. First opened for business in February 2000 by Steve Boyd, Sr., Skydive Spaceland has grown into a truly world-class skydiving facility capable of handling hundreds of skydivers jumping daily as well as the world’s largest skydiving competition, the United States Parachuting Association National Skydiving Championships (2009).
Meet the Business Owner
Steven B.
Business Owner
After 30 years in skydiving, my dreams are coming true daily. After 7 years of operating East Texas Skydiving in Gladewater, Texas, I realized I couldn’t achieve my goal of operating a full-time turbine DZ. There just wasn’t enough of a population base in northeast Texas.
So, the planning began to move to a major city that would help me realize my dreams. There were large hurdles to overcome, including selling everything I owned in Longview and convincing my wife Michelle, pregnant at the time, that liquidating and moving to the big city of Houston would actually work (this was the hardest part!).
Skydive Spaceland was open for business on Feb. 26, 2000. We are still in our infancy, growing as fast as my children are. I can only hope and pray this DZ will turn out as fine as they did. My late skydiving father, Darnell Boyd, would be very proud of what we have all done. This is his legacy in the making, to be handed down through future generations.
