Is there a good italian place in Georgia? I miss my NY italian food that I even thought about flying back to NY just for italian. I decided to give this place a try as its close to home. Was it good? Lets find out. Location: typical Roswell joint in a house off Canton street with free valet parking. Not a fan of valet parking. Décor: homie place with a style unexpected to the location. Makes you feel in an urban place in hoboken jersey. Service: awesome service with a waitress that was helpful and easy to talk to. Food: Arugula salad was yum and pieces of cheese added a good taste! Wife got the lasagna which was good and plenty of meat and not overly drenched in sauce. Malfatti alla Norcia was… Awesome! The housemade sausage was unreal that kept me wanting to eat more:) this dish is a must if you like your good home cooking comfort italian food. Dessert Budin was sweet and good. Only downside was the scoop of ice cream was too small. Cholocate dessert was well I should have asked if it was dark chocolate as that is a no no, who eats this?! Wine: very young selection of wine on the menu wasnt my taste. Summary: yes I will go back even after restaurant week to try the rest of the menu and of course eat more Malfatti which is a cant miss when you dine here. This was a close 5 star for me as the young wine selection had me debating whether to rate it a 4 or 5. If you dont like wine then this place is a 5 for you:)

A couple of days before eating at Osteria Mattone my wife and I had dinner at the Salt Factory. We were at both restaurants during Roswell Restaurant Week and at Salt before we ordered one of the special dinners the server volunteered it was ok to split between us any of the meals which is what we ended up doing. At Osteria Mattone it was a whole different story. We went there for lunch and not being very hungry I ordered the veal meatball sub and salad special. Telling the waiter we wished to split the meal he said that there would be an upcharge. I was willing to pay a bit extra but then he said it would be an additional $ 10. Talk about strong-arming customers! It really is an irksome way to handle a customer and so this review and warning to others about the excessive plate sharing charge. Not only that but they had run out out the appropriate roll for the sandwich and served it in split ciabatta bread. In fairness the food was good.

Good food atmosphere and service, but $ 28 for spaghetti and 3 meatballs is absurd. I like this place and have been here a few times and had good experiences but this time I felt taken advantage of.

Dined here tonight and was extremely pleased. The décor was nice but nothing special. Table placement is a bit tight but that is true for 90% of Canton Street. Our server was relaxed, informative, and couldn’t have been better. I believe her name was Emily. Wine list was nice, my wife loved her Pinot Noir. I had a rye whiskey cocktail towards the bottom of their drink menu that I would go back to just sit at the bar and have a few. And now the food. The kids loved the fried risotto balls, they were rich and good. The mussels were huge and fantastic, the broth was drinkable. Cheese and meat plate was par. Arugula salad and Ceasar salad were both super fresh but I could have used a tad more dressing. Ox tail ravioli may be one of my new favorite things. The meat, the sauce, the ravioli pasta all stand out and all work together perfectly. Kids had the herb chicken that I would order myself. They brine the chicken for a few days and it was tender as could be. Lamb shank is falling off the bone with just the right amount of game taste. The risotto with the lamb was a bit too salty. Wife had linguine and clams and you could absolutely tell the pasta was home made. Get the bread pudding for dessert, best I’ve ever had, enough said

My first visit met all expectations. Beautiful bar and dining room. Attentive staff. Knowledgeable owner stopped by to chat about meal & wine. I came for the Cacio y Pepe, sublime ! I will come back to explore the rest of the menu. Valet parking makes arrival /departure is easy.

This was a wonderful experience of taste and scents and texture. We started out with Suppli al Telefono(fried cheese), Polpo(octopus), and Polpette(meatballs). The polpo was excellent, as it was cooked perfectly, not chewy and rubbery, and tasted awesome. The mint-lime viniagrette was so fragrant in this dish. The suppli was crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. The meatballs are famous for having won in Atlanta. Again, crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Delicious. For entrees, we had the Agnolotti di Oxo(oxtail ravioli), Tortelli di Zucca(squash tortellini), Tagliolini di Mare(seafood pasta), pizza, and mussels. All so Delicious. The seafood was fresh and well seasoned. The tortellini was more al dente than we’d want, and it had hints of sweet savory that we didn’t expect. Probably the oxtail ravioli was the best as it was so soft and delicious, melting into our mouths. For dessert, we had Budino Caramellato(bread pudding), and an apple cake. The apple was sweet and nicely seasoned. The bread budding had a salted caramel that was melt in your mouth. It was sooo soft. Overall, an excellent experience. We’ll definitely be back and have already told our friends to go visit this wonderful restauarant!

Our experience tonight was a disappointment. First I had made my reservation for an early evening«Anniversary» dinner through Open Table they never even mentioned it when we walked in. Apparently no one read the Open Table info. My wife had chosen this restaurant based on the reviews, she even knew what she was going to eat before we got there which is why it pains me to write this review. Well the interior is quaint and romantic, very country contemporary. Our server was extremely professional and on top of everything, bread, water, our drinks. however then we ordered our food. Appetizer shrimp and calamari which looked good but had a funky almost ammonia flavor. My wife ordered the oxtail ravioli and I had the traglolini de Mare. The ravioli came out kind of plain on the presentation, 5 ravioli under cooked and room temperature. The server sprinkled Parmesan cheese on it for us. Let me tell you we are the last people to send anything back, but under cooked cold pasta was uneatable. So we sent it back. It came back shortly minus one ravioli(the one she had cut into) and it still had the sprinkled Parmesan cheese on it. The server said they had reheated it for her. Hello ! Reheat! my dish the shrimp was small and tough and the pasta was more al dente than I like it — but I ate it anyway. When asked by the waitress how the meal was we had to be honest. The owner came out to speak with us, but only made it worse. Telling us that they didn’t reheat — they remade the dish the second time — really and how did they melt the Parmesan cheese on the ravioli when it didn’t come with sprinkled Parmesan. Oh well needless to say we will not be coming back. The owner did remove the ravioli from the bill but telling us they didn’t reheat when we know they did oh no… The waitress was top notch though. I didn’t get her name.

Another in the journey of our neighborhood restaurants, we ventured to Osteria Mattone. The owners of Table and Main bring us this Roma/Italian adventure and, off the bat, I will say this was a truly delicious dining experience. We made reservations for a relatively early(7-ish) dinner on a Saturday evening. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately. Since this place is on Canton Street, I absolutely love the idea that Osteria Mattone offers free valet parking. This gets two thumbs way up. Parking can be a real challenge in this area. After being seated, we were greeted by a server who took care of the preliminaries. This was followed by another server who would be our server for the evening. The wine list is pretty extensive and expensive. We opted for the by-the-glass selections which were very nice as well. After perusing the menu online for days, I pretty much knew what I wanted to try. So we started with the Polpo(charred octopus), and the Fritto Misto. The octopus was flavorful, but it could have enjoyed a bit more bite texturely. It was a bit soft. The garnish, chickpeas, spinach, and a few roasted potatoes, seemed misplaced, but we ate them anyway. The Fritto Misto was delicious. There were, bay scallops, calamari rings(straightened), and shrimp. Everything was lightly crusted and fried perfectly. The aioli was rich, but tasty. I think I would have preferred tarter sauce, but how blue collar of me. I really wanted to try one of the pizza’s, but my ruling was overturned on appeal by the wife. Too much food! Next trip. It really seemes such a waste to come here, with so many appetizing selections, and order a pizza! I digress… On to entrees. The wife, who had been scarfing down the delicious house focaccia and olive oil, requested the Tortelli di Zucca, which were perfect purses of deliciousness in a well-balanced pesto. I ordered up the Agnolotti di Oxo, which is ravioli stuffed with ox tail and short rib. I had special dreams about this dish after consuming it. Excellent dinner experience. Our server was proficient, professional, and we felt well taken care of. All of the wine pairing recommendations were perfect. We were never, at any point, needing to flag anyone down. The seating is kind of tight, so your conversations, and those of everyone else, tend to travel so be aware. The menu is pricey, so don’t expect to make this your go-to in lieu of Chef Boyardee. For a nice«date-night», you cannot lose with Osteria Mattone. This is a place we will return to in the not too distant future.

Polpette /veal meat balls are good. Not great. But good. Branzino appetizer(scallops) is good. Capesante(fish) was best of the meal. Perfectly prepared and good flavor. Spaghetti carbonara is… usually a favorite of mine but this one was just nothing special. Nice atmosphere. Nice location. Decent service. Would give 3 ½ if I could.

We had a small office party here. Ryan was terrific in getting things set up and coordinated. The staff and the food were magnificent. The dishes served spanned the full spectrum of their menu and everyone raved about how delicious everything was. The staff were attentive and the meals were served hot(not an easy trick when the service was for 20) I highly recommend everything at this wonderful Resteraunt–

I visited this restaurant for lunch with my spouse. The interior is very nicely decorated and they have a truly lovely patio area that would be perfect in the spring and fall. The restaurant has nice food but Buckhead prices. I had a chicken wrap and salad for $ 15 that didn’t come close to satisfying my hunger. The salad had all those funky leafy things that a good dose of round up would eliminate from your lawn. The wrap had the tiniest slice of chicken I have ever seen. My wife had swordfish and she enjoyed it but she wasn’t paying the bill. The desserts were expensive and small… good for women watching their figures. This place is supposed to be an Italian restaurant I guess but I think of it as another pretentious Roswell dining eatery.

What could I say? Being Italian I’m very skeptical of all the Italian restaurants abroad, but this was a surprise. Yesterday, my fiancé and I went to Osteria Mattone for a Sunday lunch because I really wanted to try their«Piada» which they make only at lunch time. I am from the region in Italy that invented the«piadina romagnola» so I was more than curious to taste it. I have to say that piada has passed the test. Even if it wasn’t exactly as the original, it was a great copy and the taste was really good. Then, we ordered supplì al telefono and fried shrimps, scallops and squids. Everything was delicious. As a dessert we had Panna cotta which was smooth and not too sweet. For me absolutely perfect. We will go back for sure and maybe for a romantic dinner outside!

Their dishes focus on elegance over complexity. You get pure and fresh flavor singing beautiful solos rather than a massive thundering choral from a myriad flavors and ingredients. Simplicity can result in lackluster but they repeatedly hit the mark with every dish. We started with the Fritto Misto. The shrimp were plump and lightly breaded. The squid was uniquely served in thick rectangles but remained very tender. The small ball scallops were a crunchy contrast and lemony aioli perfectly complimented this appetizer. We also started with olive oil and bread. The EVOO was light and delicate. But it was the Focaccia that was the highlight and I marveled at how it could be both soft and crunchy due to its light and crispy crust. My wife made me move it to the opposite end of the table since she couldn’t stop eating it. My entrée was the Malfatti Alla Norcia with the richness of the panna cream, mushrooms, and pasta balanced by the spicy Italian sausage and sage seasoning. «Malfatti» is Italian slang for«mistake»(a delicious one in this case) They were invented by an Italian cook in Napa, CA in the 1920’s — a pillow type pasta that’s a cross between a ravioli and a dumpling. My wife started with the Insalata di Rucola, an arugula salad with shaved mushroom, parmesan, and lemon vinaigrette. That was followed by the Piada Pollo, a flatbread wrap with grilled chicken, arugula, herbed robiola, and tomato. It came with a side of hand-cut fries – A style rarely done right. Despite my misgivings they were cooked perfectly with kosher salt and seasoning that fitted them to a «T.» Our portions were generous and we had enough leftovers to serve for another meal. Plus, we wanted to save room for the daily special dessert. They called it a carmelatto, but it reminded me of a chocolate flan. While I prefer dark to milk chocolate, this captured the richness and flavor beyond just being sweet. We dined on their garden patio, which provides about a dozen tables. We also saw the interior with its inviting and richly appointed interior. Parking is a challenge at any Historic Roswell venue, but Osteria Mattone has one of the more generous lots. Service was friendly and attentive. For our out-of-town friends who appreciate fine dining, we look forward to bringing them here to impress them. The prices reflect the higher level of delivery and our meal without alcoholic drinks was in the low $ 70s. It’s definitely for special occasion and I look forward to our next visit.

Boy, do I love this place. Dinner this evening: Fritto Misto — scallops, shrimp & calamari with Lemon Aioli. So delicious and a delicate breading. Yummo! Spago Pomodoro — basically delicious! So simple, yet so wonderful! Noodles are al dente. The way they should be! Truffle Polenta — can I say, this is my downfall. When you order the Vitello — or 16 oz. Veal Chop — you won’t be sorry. Want to splurge — add truffles! OMG –my last supper would be the Vitello. Hands down! Salmon — normally prepares Medium, however, I like it Medium Rare. And it is divine. Just the right amount of oil to make it not stick to the grill, with all the wonderful taste of the grill. Do you like sparkling wine? If so, don’t miss the Charles Bove rose. It is dry, but not too dry and a wonderful way to start, or finish dinner.

When Osteria Mattone was being built I followed it’s rise as the owner and his brother toured Italy to find the culmination of what was to become Osteria Mattone. Ryan Pernice, the creator of Table and Main, has done it again with his creation of Osteria Mattone, well researched, well thought out concept — and as you sit down and look around the restaurant you see the detail in the design — 5 stars in décor, using a good balance of elements from ‘old world’ brick and wood to contemporary styling. What I appreciate is not only can you have outdoor seating in the summer months separate from the main restaurant and well landscaped, but a more casual high-top section, bar section, and finer dinning area within. It looks like it would accommodate a few groups well. The menu is extremely well balanced. I can tell you when a menu is well thought out, presenting me with a difficult choice it excites me. 5 stars for menu — and I don’t often rate a restaurant on it’s menu. Maybe I should! We tried the risotto balls, the octopus, and the meatballs for appetizer. There is nothing I would change about these items, they are well rounded with flavor, tender, juicy, perfectly cooked. 5 stars. We were here for a Saturday lunch, so we shared the pollo piada as we were fairly full off the 3 appetizers — the piada was perfect. The fries had come out mushy… 3.5 stars for the fries, I understand mistakes happen and they did offer us to replace them but we were full at this point so just let them be. Since this was a lunch visit, maybe take my 5 stars lightly but I indend to return for a dinner soon, I have no doubt that Osteria Mattone delivers on dinner as well.

This place is awesome! My wife and I have been here a few times and keep coming back. All the food is delicious, it has a nice ambiance and the bartenders are really cool. On the weekends when the weather is nice site outside and enjoy the few air, they sometimes have a one man show going on with is nice as well. Highly recommended!

They’re amazingly accommodating. My friend has garlic allergy so I called to ask about options. I mean it’s an Italian restaurant I think even their faults havel garlic in it. It turns out they have a four page food allergy optional menu that you can go through and they would basically custom make your meal without any of those things to may kill you or make you sick. Their chef came out in person to go over it. They’re delicious overall. Even the valet is yummy

This place was phenomenal. I made a reservation for my 15th year anniversary and they had a signed card waiting for us at the table, which was next to a window. They had my favorite Pinot Grigio ever in house and the pasta was to die for. The servers and bartender were insanely nice, making us feel very welcome. For a high end night out, I highly recommend it.
