Putt N Play

Closed at 6 pm? How did they expect to stay in business? Pure reliance on weekend visitors because this isn’t going to attract any working parents to bring their kids here during the week.

We, too, bought the Groupon. We got there about 45 minutes after they opened today, redeemed the Groupon, and were also led to the back room. The inflatables were not up. My daughter and I were given a putter, chose a ball, and off we went. There was another group playing as well as we were. I do commend them for putting 18 holes of mini golf in a space the size of a living room, but as was said, there was not a lot of creativity in the holes. I got three holes in one. So fairly simple. But my daughter and I almost fell a few times. The floor was not even. It was hard to see because we were there during the weekend, which is glow in the dark time. I’m pretty hefty, and I had trouble being able to fit to line up the shot. My daughter is a size 0 and had the same issue. Tight, dangerous, scary. But the boys in the other group playing in the room with us had a good time.
As we were leaving, I was going to ask the employee about the inflatables, but she was talking on the phone. I looked at her, and she waved at me and continued her conversation. My daughter did not have a good time, and she was begging to leave by the 15^th hole. So maybe Putt N Play is not such a good idea, at least in the dark. We were concerned about it, but we were unable to make it there during the week.

Angry Dad: «you kids had better stop fighting back there, or I swear I’m going to stop this car and pull right into Putt n Play!»
Frightened kids: «No! Please Dad! Can’t you ground us? Take away the Xbox? Beat us? Anything but Putt n Play!»
This is how the Florida tourists must have felt in the 1950s as they were hustled by the alligator shows and tourist traps. I purchased a Groupon for what was described as a miniature golf course that
«awakens the competitive spirit in guests of all ages». Instead we were led by the one lone employee through a series of kiddie bounce slides and empty party rooms to an eerily dark back room. The «tricky slopes and transit-​themed obstacles such as stop lights, train cars, and wormholes.» looked like Home Depot inspired projects. The «visually enchanting neon, glow-​in-​the-​dark circuit» consisted of a few black lights overhead and some lights laid out on the floor.
The real problem though was not the low budget course. That might have gotten them a two star review at least. The issue was that it wasn’t presented as a kiddie course. We knew we were in the wrong place the minute we walked in. My kids are preteen and teen ages, so being here was not what they had pictured on their spring break. Even though they thought the place was «ratchet» they made the most of it, but truthfully, it sucked. We didn’t keep score, played quickly and got out as fast as we could.
On a positive note, I now have leverage over my kids. They promise to do their homework, and I promise not to bring them back here!

I purchased a Groupon for this as I believed it would be a good introduction to mini golf for the kids. Boy was I wrong.
First, the location is called Jeronimo’s! with the Putt-​n-​Play sign much smaller. I found the location easily using Google Maps and the address on the Groupon. This isn’t a mini golf place, though; it is a kids’ play area with a mini course off in a separate, extremely small room. I can say I would never have paid full price for a place like this.
It is a very small dark room with the holes colored with neon colors that glow in the black light. I’ve seen other places like this before, but this was the worst layout I have ever seen. The holes are so close together that there is almost nowhere to stand while others are playing. The darkness combined with the bad layout had our kids tripping all over the place. Fortunately, we had the place to ourselves, so we could take our time, but that was the only plus. I can’t imagine how chaotic it would be with more people in there.
There is little creativity to the holes. The layout was bad and sometimes difficult to follow because they aren’t completely in order. This is due to the tight space it was crammed into. I’m shocked they got 18 holes in that tiny space.
As others have mentioned, the manager pretty much walks you to the back room, hands you the putters and balls and heads back over to the kids’ play area. There is no supervision of any kind. It’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.
We will not be returning. Definitely not worth the money.

I took my kids and had a nice time. It was Sunday afternoon and another group left just as we were coming in so we had the place to ourselves. It’s glow in the dark which I wasn’t expecting but the kids really enjoyed it and it was nice having the place to ourselves. The groupon price made worth the trip. It was a nice addition to our nature reserve trip.
I will say this place is clearly designed for kids, not teens and adults and it could use a little more decoration but while the older kids said they didn’t like it as much as monster mini golf, I think being less creepy was nice for the younger ones.

Nuts and bolts: Like the previous reviewer, I also purchased a LivingSocial voucher. Too bad that review was not available when I made my purchase. I like miniature golf and I wanted to introduce my boyfriend to the game. The place was a bit difficult to find because there is no large signage (staff told me that had to take it down). They instead have a banner. But a quick call to the store and we got very nice directions since were already in the complex.
Pros: Hmmm… none. Well, I guess that it wasn’t too crowded when we went. We went on a Sunday afternoon before closing.
Cons: A wish there had been notice that it was glow in the dark miniature golf. Never heard of such a thing. It was so dangerous. We were tripping over things, falling off ledges of the course, etc. The holes were close together. Some over/​under each other. So odd. And it can get a bit crowded when you are approaching another group. You would get a bit lost of where the next one was sometimes. The par number was not always available. In fact, I only recall it on one hole. Alot of the holes are indeed variations of the same thing. There is not alot of variety. There is no supervision. The guy comes in and gives you your club, balls, scoring card, and lets you go on your way. And then he goes next door to the children’s play area next door. Weird.
Suggestion: A locker for purses or other items.
Takehome message: Lawsuit waiting to happen. Can’t wait till Ponce City Market opens and I can play on their rooftop.

I never thought miniature golf could be so awful. I went to this place because I bought a LivingSocial coupon for it. My boyfriend and I drove around looking for the place for almost 20 minutes. We even called to ask where it was, and the woman on the phone proceeded to give us terrible directions. Eventually, we found the place after driving past it three times. No wonder we couldn’t find the mini golf — it didn’t have a sign!
We presented our deal, and a staff member led us to the mini golf. It was nearly pitch black inside, and I almost tripped multiple times. With kids all around, I’m sure one of them will trip in the dark, and the business will be liable.
The actual mini golf was bad. It looked hastily assembled, and many of the holes used the same layout. We didn’t even finish playing because three-​quarters into our game, a group of kids (probably from a camp) came in and ran all over the place, cutting in line and jumping in front of us as we hit the golf ball. These kids were about eight years old; they should have known better. Two counselors who were supposed to be watching the kids were just sitting and talking, letting them run amuck. It’s mini golf, so I expected kids, but their cutting in line and running made it impossible for anyone else to play.
Tired of tripping in the dark, battling unruly kids, and dealing with a bad course, my boyfriend and I left, never to return. We probably spent more time trying to find the mini golf place than actually playing it.
As we were playing, another adult’s reaction when he walked in and saw the golf course summed it up best: «You’ve got to be kidding me.»
