Excellent everything from food to service to atmosphere. I was here on vacation from Los Angeles, and this place rivals anywhere in LA in it’s class. Bravo, Bravo

I think in my opinion everything is top notch in this exquisite restaurant. The lobster Mac n cheese is one of a kind. I have been to there other restaurant Beverly hills grill and this place is just as good. Fantastic service in a classy dining atmosphere.

Well the mash potatoes are phenomenal, the veggie plate is also phenomenal, Cesar salad was very good. Service was attentive and polite. The vibe is energetic and the décor is like a upscale pub! Great music playing classic rock to fit the urbanites palette.

mehhhhh perfectly explains my feelings. I used to work across the street and would get lunch carry out all the time from here. Every time I would think — why did I pay so much money for such mediocre food. Nothing really stands out for me and everything just seems over priced — especially for the portion sizes. The turkey ruben used to be a favorite when it was served with yummy house made chips — but those were swapped out for soggy fries which mad me sad. They buffalo chicken mac and cheese is damn tasty — but you can really only order that once a year. I will say they make a mean *free* bread — so they get a star just for that. Otherwise, now that I don’t work across the street I probably will never come here again. It just doesn’t have anything that would make me go out of my way to come back. le sigh.

Town Tavern was very busy hosting a beer stroll early one Saturday morning. The weather was perfect for all kinds of indulgences, beer or yummy brunches. Some people may prefer their carbs in liquid form, but I am definitely the fresh-baked bread and crispy fries-type, not that these are mutually exclusive. The long restaurant is bisected by a frosted glass barrier with a bar on one side and simple tavern-style furnishings on the other. Tall tables out front help with overflow from the bar. While it was technically autumn, the sunny weather encouraged outdoor dining(and prompted patience among those waiting in the long lines). I went with the massive lobster 3-egg scramble, made fluffy with mascarpone, and served with 2.5 oz of lobster meat and diced peppers. An English muffin and a small saucer of fruit rounded out the dish. The fries, with a generous shaving of Parmesan cheese, were delicious. Equally good and very creative was the maple mousse pie in a maple-flavored, cookie-like crust, served with toasted pecans and chocolate syrup. Service was quick and warm.

Brought a party of 11(6 kids!) to eat during Spooktacular 2015 and received absolutely spectacular customer service. The waitress and bartender(Ashley and Katie) were absolutely AMAZING and ensured we received food, despite a somewhat lengthy wait. The food was excellent, the drinks were wonderful and the staff went out of their way to make sure all of needs were met. Absolutely can’t wait to come again, without the kiddies!

I have been here a few times and enjoyed this restaurant. I have tried most of the appetizers and a few of the entrees. Overall, i think the appetizers are better than their main offerings. I do however like the the pulled pork enchiladas. Entrée. My favorite apps are the truffle fries and the jalapeño poppers dip. I will keep going back to try more entrees.

More like 3.5 stars, but given the consistency, decent service regularly, well prepared uninspired food, this place is a staple and deserves the 4 stars. Ideal for business lunches. Atmosphere is slightly upscale, but tired. Food is good, cooked properly, completely boring, unchanged since inception. Bill Roberts runs a great restaurant empire. But this is his red headed step child. Achieves his standards, but just does not excel. Suspect he regrets coming to Royal Oak. Examples: Buffalo shrimp on Caesar salad not freshly cooked. Deep fried day or 2 before. I once asked for freshly cooked and was told no. But my favorite dish. No soup du jour. Soup they do have served barely warm. Used to have a killer Manhattan clam chowder, but stopped serving it few years ago. Fresh seafood choices daily. Stick to these and you will be happy. Don’t get me wrong, one of the best in RO; but given Robert’s other places, should be better.

We had a fantastic meal last night at Town Tavern. Very nicely decorated and arranged interior with comfortable atmosphere. Slightly upscale but not stuffy at all. The truffle fries were incredible and the braised short rib was literally falling off the bone. So great. Our server was Michelle and she was top notch! She was very knowledgable about the menu and took care of our every request. Will return again!

I dined here for a late lunch the other day. The menu is pretty small but the specials looked pretty promising. We ordered the French onion soup, a wedge salad and the crab cake. The food was delicious but I expected a bit larger portions for the cost. Our server was very kind and attentive. I’d dine here again and would recommend the place to those who have deep pockets.

If you have the cash go here. Good is great. One of the best in royal oak. Bartenders are good and fast. Food is awesome. Go before 6 to get the happy hour. And be warned, it’s packed on the weekends. Wonder why???

The interior: ok The service: fast. Nice server. The food: meh. The buffalo shrimp I had was good because it was shrimp. But tasted like it was tossed in regular franks red hot. 3 shrimp with red hot is not worth $ 10. Got the filet. Good. Nothing special that I couldn’t do in five minutes. Oh, but it did come with three pieces of asparagus. The price: 3 pieces of shrimp. One 6 ounce steak. Three pieces of asparagus. One red stripe lager. That came to $ 45 before tip. If you don’t think I got Taco Bell after eating here, you’d be wrong. The food was decent. Portions were tiny. But again… you could make the exact thing at home, and it’d be half the price.

After a long hard day, I needed a place to unwind. The wine was good. I also really liked the jalepeño dip with pretzel bites. My calamari, on the otherhand, tasted as if it was sprinkled in cinnamon rather than something«spicy.» The other items on the menu looked interesting and I would come back for something more substantial to put in my tummy next time!

Consistent, and one of the nicer places in royal oak. I mix up the food order a lot, and never been disappointed. Wide range of food. Bar fully stocked, and service get probably an 80% on overall speed and personality. Because it’s more upscale, you get less of the younger alternative crowd.

I visited the Town Tavern last night for the first time and was very impressed! I called earlier in the day to make a reservation but they only accept call ahead setting so I put my name down for 6:30PM. Two members of my party arrived at 6:30 and were sat immediately. The table was extremely cramped, I believe it is only meant for four people and there were six of us sitting at it. I server was extremely knowledgeable, fast, and attentive. She called me by my name(since she checked me ID) the entire time I was their, you just don’t get serves like that anymore. The food… the food was out of this world! My table ordered the lobster mac, whitefish, lump crab cake, New York strip, burger and enchiladas. Everyone at the table LOVED their food! The drinks were also very delicious, I had the perfect pear martini and my sister got the red sangria. The décor is very laid back but also high end; the servers wear white button up shirts with a black tie. Overall a modern place with a down home warm cozy feeling. I will definitely be back the next time I am in RO.

I like the food and location in downtown royal oak, because it was close to home. The vibe of the place is a little… Well, snobby. We get decent service and the food and drinks were good. I like the orange creamsicle mixed drink and the buffalo macaroni and cheese. Menu is a little pricey, there are better options only a short walk away.

Consistent. This place is one of my staples in royal oak. The staff is always friendly and prompt, the environment is inviting. There’s a nice patio in the summer. They have a nice beer and wine selection. The food is always consistently good. I would recommend this place for anything from a business lunch to a casual date.

I’ll give town 4 stars because I’ve been here twice and my girlfriend really likes it. To be frank, there’s nothing about this place that blows you away really. But what it does offer is consistency. Food, service and ambience is always exceptional. Prices are too high in my opinion, but I think they make up for that in their incredible service and professionalism. Come here for a casual date and for a good meal before catching a movie or something.

I wanted to give it a two and a half, but that is not an option. My boyfriend and I were just looking for a new place to eat and their menu outside sounded kind of interesting so we gave it a try. Staff was very nice. I gave it this rating just because everything just wasn’t that good. We got the lobster nachos, good but not great. Truffle fries, the truffle flavor is good but fries stated a little old, like they fried them hours before we got them or something. My boyfriend had the salmon and I had the steak salad. Very basic flavors. I just don’t think the quality matches the pricing. The cocktail I tried was described as using fresh strawberries. No strawberries came out with it,(not muddled, not garnished, or involved at all that I could tell) it didnt taste like it included any kind of fresh ingredient. Way too sweet, tasted like cotton candy.

I am not a fan of Town Tavern. It always pains me to say that about one of my local restaurants. I truly want to love each and every one of them but just like my 2nd grade spelling bee, some of us have to go home with participation ribbons. I’m drawing my conclusions for this off my last two dinners. First, don’t bother making a reservation. We arrived after making a reservation 2 days in advance and still had to wait an hour while they simply seated people in the order they showed up, making the whole purpose of them taking my reservation pointless. The big hype here is the lobster mac & cheese, and that item does indeed live up to the hype that give’s this place it’s reputation, it is very tasty. As far as the rest of the menu goes, I’ve yet to have anything that I would order a second time, my dining companions concurred. A lackluster menu and long wait times in a town of nothing but restaurants renders Town Tavern as a place to skip. Sorry guys.
