Pirate’s Pointe Resort

While planning my recent 11-​day trip to Apollo Beach, Florida, I vacillated between staying at a VRBO at Little Harbor or finding less touristy accommodations. Livingsocial came through with a sweet deal at the Pirate’s Pointe Resort in Ruskin and this sealed the deal.
I opted to stay in a little studio cottage, but there were more spacious cottages from one or two bedroom cottages to a five bedroom house (with a private pool!) nestled in the secluded, intimate resort. The grounds were landscaped with lush tropical plants… really peaceful and relaxing. But the best feature — by far — was the dock. So gorgeous.
Pirate’s Pointe feels like a peaceful little fishing resort. My Livingsocial deal included a discount on a private fishing charter and the resort helped set up the activity. That fishing trip was truly the highlight of our entire 11 day trip. If you prefer, you can forego fishing on a boat and just go fishing on the dock.
I was sad to leave Pirate’s Pointe, but plan to return again and again.
One word of advice… there was a coffeemaker (BYO coffee), but no blow dryer or iron in my unit. I initally dried my hair standing underneath the ceiling fan, that is, until I discovered that sitting on the beautiful sunny dock did the trick even quicker :). And I didn’t worry so much about the wrinkled clothes and just enjoyed my trip.
Other tips… 1) Your parking space is right in front of your cottage. 2) The resort is walking distance to the Fish House on Shell Point but is a little distance from Sunset Grill, Hooks, and EG Simmons Park. 3) Be sure to say hi to the resort owner, Jonathon, who can be seen around the resort throughout the day. He is a fascinating conversationalist and a real character. 4) Last and most important, don’t forget the deet!!!
