Exploration of the rich Inglenook legacy of winemaking that began in the late 1800s and continues to the present day, including tour of the Château, vineyards, and Infinity caves, culminating in one of our private caves for a seated tasting paired with a selection of artisan cheeses.
History
Established in 1879.
Gustave Niebaum, having amassed a personal fortune in excess of $ 10 million, buys the Inglenook farm in 1879 from Hastings, and the adjoining four-hundred-forty-acre farm of Mrs. Rohlwing. Niebaum decides to keep the name Inglenook.
In 1881, Niebaum hires Hamden W. McIntyre to be the general manager of Inglenook. (Later, McIntyre becomes a prominent designer of other Napa Valley wineries.) Inglenook crushes its first vintage of 80,000 gallons of wine in 1882.
Following Niebaum’s passing, his grand-nephew John Daniel Jr takes the healm in 1939. The 1941 Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon earns the reputation of being one of the best Cabernet Sauvignons ever made, achieving a perfect 100 score in the Wine Spectator. Beginning in 1975, Francis and Eleanor Coppola begin restoring the property to its original grandeur.
Meet the Business Owner
Francis C.
Business Owner
Francis Ford Coppola is best known as the five-time Oscar-winning director, writer, and producer of such epic films as the Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now. As a writer, director, producer, and technological pioneer, Coppola has created a body of work that has helped to shape contemporary American cinema. He has been making films for more than fifty years and wine for nearly forty.
In 1975, Francis and Eleanor purchased part of the historic Inglenook Estate, including over 1400 acres of land and founder Gustave Niebaum’s Victorian home and carriage house. Coppola renamed the estate Niebaum-Coppola and in 1978 produced the first vintage of Rubicon. 1995, the Coppolas purchased the remaining part of the original property, which included the Inglenook Château and approximately 90 acres of vineyards, thus restoring the Estate to its historic dimensions.
