History
Established in 2008.
The inspiration for opening Green Mountain Fibers came from a fiber tour of Ireland in October 2008. Rutland had lost its last remaining local yarn shop several years earlier and the void had not been filled. While touring the Irish countryside, original owners Kathleen Wanner and Mary Jeanne Packer launched the creation of Green Mountain Fibers as a shop that would feature fabulous local and luxury fibers. The new shop would also offer educational classes, events, and a gathering place for area knitters to sit-n-knit with one another. Mary Jeanne has since gone on to open a spinning mill in Greenwich, NY and Kathleen’s husband George is her new partner at GMF.
