I found online that this place sold jumbalaya, and I was in the mood. Feeling some type of way, me and my squad rolled up in the parking lot and immediately felt like we were in the south. This feeling is eerie, but I went with it because eerie south should equal good jumbalaya and such. We got in, and it was immediately some dive bar. This was passable, because it seemed very southern. We sat down, and it took at least eleven minutes before anyone came over to ask if we wanted anything, even water. There was nobody else in the restaurant, other than some dudes at the bar. Some cornbread sticks and magical cinnamon sugar butter was plopped down on the table, and we attacked. This butter was something of the gods. After someone finally came over, we ordered the cajun roll and big joes large jumbalaya portion. The food came after a while, and it was bad. It was very bad. The roll was edible, but too sweet. It was greasy and fat and just not my scene. The jumbalaya was not good at all. It was also edible, but seemed more like dog food than something that would be served at a «restaurant.» If it were just about the food, I would give it a 2⁄5 instead of 1. The icing on the cake was when I ordered my drink. I ordered a drink and asked for it a certain way. It came and I didn’t like it. This I completely understood, because there were other ingredients I should have asked more about. I walked to the bar and asked the bartender/our server to remake it a certain way. He did and I took it back to the table. I wanted to like it, I really did… but I didn’t. I was fiending to get out of there and asked for the check. The check came and the margarita, not drunk and watery and full on the table, was $ 9.00 shown on the bill. I asked if it could be taken off, and the bartender seemed tight. He said that it was what I ordered, gave a bit of a huff and puff, and said he will take it off but really shouldnt. He then walked back to his bar area, and said to himself«she asked for a f*%^ing margarita…» And trailed off. Now I know it can be annoying when people return stuff and are picky and seem annoying, but you can’t act like the pimp of the house. This business is about making people happy, not crying when they aren’t. The bartender is not my cup of tea. Square up.

Went for lunch with a party of 8, and between all of us we had nearly every cajun item on the menu. Everything was delish! We started with a complementary basket of cornbreadsticks(instead of breadsticks!) They came with regular butter(those little cubes you always see at restaurants) and some(I’m guessing homemade) cinnamon butter which was so good and no one touched the plain butter. The deep-fried macaroni is 8 mini cubes of perfect heavenly mac, I wholly recommend getting these as an appetizer!(I only wish we had got two orders of these so I could of had a second one.) The ‘gator nuggets were also very good, and I’d recommend getting them blackened over fried.(In fact I’d say go for blackened over fried whenever you have the option — the fried, while good, is nothing special. But the blackened is delicious! By the way, blackened refers to the blend of seasoning used, they are not burnt to a crisp or anything!) Just keep in mind that they are NOT cheap and ‘gator doesn’t have any particular special flavor to it.(Though they are delicious!) I myself had the red beans and rice(rice and beans platter, as they call it) with andouille sausage and an extra side of sautéed vegetables.(Some of the entrees come with sides, some don’t and they’ll cost you extra.) The vegetables didn’t have any special seasoning or sauce to them, but they were good fresh veggies. The red beans and rice was very good and the andouille was just the best — perfectly cooked, and just– aaah I loved it. I can’t wait to have my leftovers! Everyone had a taste of everyone else’s food and the catfish was nice and fresh(better blackened over fried) and the sweet potato fries have ruined all other sweet potato fries for us. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside… just perfect. I’d like to try their regular fries next time. The jambalaya was also very very good. A note about the desserts: they were all delicious, but only the bread pudding was really big enough for sharing. Their keylime pie was just a mini tart, and their pie slices were the right size for one person.(Well the mousse cake was a big slice.) We all shared anyway, just rest assured you won’t be ordering a slice of pie here and getting a huge piece that’s too big for one person. Again, they were all delicious — I would recommend the bread pudding. The restaurant décor itself was very nice, lots of gators everywhere haha. Our server was very friendly and attentive and they were on top of refilling our pitcher of water and clearing away our plates. The only downside is that their menu is a bit pricey imo, but it is good food! Tastes just like something my family might make at home– which is a good thing, because that means you’re getting good home-cooked quality cajun food here! Keep in mind that they add an 18% gratuity and to let the staff know of any allergens you might have.(Both they note on the menu!) I’m looking forward to going back sometime to try their gumbo and crawfish étouffée, and their Sunday brunch menu looks amazing– definitely going to try to get up there for that one day. Some things we’d love to see on the menu in the future — beignets, hushpuppies and boudin!(But we have to remember that this isn’t strictly a cajun restaurant. :P)

Solid local go to for something a little different. Very authentic Cajun food but quality does depend on who does the cooking. Very good service and kind owners.

Great food — huge portions! My favorites are the fried mac and cheese(appetizer) and the Cajun Rib Eye with mashed potatoes & cole slaw(you can choose your sides). The folks that work here are nice and treat you like a regular. Its a bit deceiving driving to the restaurant as it looks a little shady and appears out of nowhere. This is such a great find!

The best place for comfort food around town. Probably a better choice in the colder months rather than summer. Small so gets crowded quickly.

The roadhouse has some of the best southern food in greater New York. The collards are amazing, the fried chicken is a must, their Sunday brunch biscuits and gravy and outstanding. The Sunday morning bloody Mary’s are not to be missed either.

On our way home to CT from the NYBG we searched for a reasonable restaurant for my friend and I and our 213year old girls. The staff was super nice and the food was good. It was a bit noisy and very crowded, but this spoke to how much everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. For those who have not been there, the directions brought us through a residential neighborhood and at first we thought we may have been misdirected, but we weren’t!

Place is usually always crowded. Food is good and they serve unusual dishes. They have specials every day of the week: Margarita Mondays, Burgers on Tuesday, Fried chicken on Wednesdays(which is fantastic) and not sure what they serve Thursdays and Fridays, but one of those days is quesadilla night. The swamp drink is my favorite. Good for families, large or small groups. The drinking gets out of hand on Fridays, I noticed that a whole bunch of men crowd up the bar area. Still, its got good food and one of the owner’s(Cody) is attentive and cool. I’m a fan!

Great place. So consistently good. Best go-to place in Rye. Have been coming here for 10+ years. Jambalaya, gumbo, gator nuggets, corn bread and blackened shrimp over greens are«can’t misses». Chicken fingers and poppers weren’t up to the same standard(more typical bar-type taste). 4.5-stars !

Everything I tried my first time there was delicious. The table ordered alapeno poppers, fried mac ‘n cheese, cornbread with cinnamon butter, wings, calamari and for entrees we got red wine braised beef short ribs and southern fried chicken. I’ve eaten fried chicken all over the south. this stuff was up there. So crispy and flavorful. Noone left food on their plates. Linda was not only a great server but was super friendly and funny. To add to our great experience, two people unexpectedly joined us midway through our meal and the staff had no problem accommodating them despite every table in the house being taken. The next two times I went were just as good and they impressed me with how accommodating they were of my friend’s food allergies. You’ll probably think it’s a little weird that this restaurant is tucked away in a little residential neighborhood but that’s just how certain areas of Rye are. Inside it feels homey and cozy so it’s fitting.

Went in with the family on a Saturday for lunch. Service and execution were lacking. One and a half pieces were undercooked. I told the server and he didn’t say anything. Did not offer to maybe replace with more. He did reduce the price by 10% but really that probably could have been reduced more. Service was slow. Family of three that arrived 5 minutes before us were finished their meal and left before we even for our food. No drink refills. Party of four who arrived five minutes after us received their food before us. There was just us three parties in the dining room side. Oh and I had a piece of plastic in my mac and cheese. No comment and no sorry until we paid the bill. Recipes and quality of the good itself was good. We live 10 minutes away. I guess we were not their type of customers?
