We started the Fernleaf Bakery in May of 2011. We started the business from scratch — like all the things we bake!
Meet the Business Owner
Irene L.
Business Owner
Irene always liked to bake but she studied Chemical Engineering, graduating with honors, and then after some further training worked in software engineering for IBM, John Hancock and Verizon.
When her contract at Verizon ended in 2007 she decided to follow her heart and take up her old flame; the one in the oven. She went back to school and completed a degree in Baking and Pastry at New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont. Once again she graduated with honors. Alton Brown, a longtime culinary favorite of hers, was the commencement speaker at her graduation, which was a great thrill!
When Irene returned to Saco she started the Fernleaf Bakery, from scratch, naturally, like all her baked goods.
