Andy’s Candy Apothecary

Wow, Andy himself on Saturday was there. Lots that could be tasted. I got Chile Lime Tequila Tortilla Brittle.
OMG so different and so good. I will definitely be going back. He is enthusiastic he talks about all the different kinds of candies he has.

Best chocolate I’ve ever had! This is perfect place to get gifts too. They have a wide variety to pick from. I highly recommend Andy’s Candy. Check them out!

This is such a fun little store. We were looking for Puur Chocolat and found some at Andy’s. There’s such a good mix of locally-​made chocolates, old fashioned favorites like licorice and razzles, gummy weirdness like bacon and eggs (pig faces and egg gummies), fancy painted chocolates, and fun gift items. This store makes me happy!

I really enjoy visiting Andy’s. I love the way it’s arranged and look forward to finding something new to try. The range of domestic and foreign candies are really fun. The bulk items and seasonal candies are delicious and fun. But did you know they carry Dewar’s taffy from Bakersfield? Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. It’s really good.
Some time ago, they converted the back area into a really fun and inspired gift area. Beautiful handmade cards, retro style wooden and paper toys, so many neat things to look at and pick for that someone special. Really the change is great.
As always, you get an extra piece of candy for paying in cash!

I was tipped off to this place’s existence by a screenwriting professor over in Palo Alto. It might have been years before I noticed it otherwise. It’s close to stuff, but in kind of an odd spot where you might not notice it if you didn’t know it was there.
If you’ve ever been to a Hardys Sweet Shop in England, you’ll find Andy’s Candy Apothecary to be very similar (but bigger than most of their locations and less densely packed with candy). There’s a good mix of chocolate and non-​chocolate candy, and an equally good mix of international and local options. I can’t imagine finding a basic waxy Hershey’s bar here, but there was a good selection of artisan chocolate bars and individual pieces. Overall, the chocolate selection is similar to what you’d find in a Whole Foods (except you get the pleasure of supporting a small local business).
Prices are very reasonable, even surprisingly low on a couple items. If you don’t buy a lot of foreign candy, some things might seem expensive for what you’re getting, but when you factor in the costs of importing and maintaining fresh inventory, it’s very reasonably priced.
As a bit of a candy nerd, my only disappointment (and it’s very minor) is that I was unable to find any of my favorite international candies. I semi-​regularly order Bilar, mini Daim bars, those round British fruit bon-​bons, Love Hearts, Baflot wafers, Crembo, etc., and I didn’t see any of that stuff. I was surprised to find hazelnut eggs from Germany, though. My grandma used to live there and still talks about missing all the wonderful hazelnut chocolates. She’ll be delighted when they get to her.
Even though they didn’t have my absolute favorites, I still walked out with a $ 35 bag of assorted deliciousness. I’ll definitely be back to see what else they carry in the future.

If your sweet tooth is killing you, a visit to Andy’s Candy Apothecary can most certainly find the cure. Chocolates, hard candy, gummies, brittles, gums; anything to cure what ails you.
Don’t come in here expecting to find the things located within the «impulse buying sections» of your local grocery store or pharmacy. The sweets here are high quality, many hand crafted, worth every penny spent which are too good to pass up.
Not sure if you like chipotle flavored chocolate? Have a sample from the sample jar. Craft beer peanut brittle got you weirded out? Unscrew the lid on that sample jar and sample a few pieces (oh, and let me say, this is absolutely delicious!).
In addition to the many, many goodies I’d never seen or heard of, there was a few sections of the store that brought me back to my childhood: candy and gum «smoking» cigarettes, ice cubs and Astro pops! I gladly exchanged my dollar bills for something way more valuable — a trip down memory lane.
If you’ve got questions on anything in the store, you can ask the friendly employees for help. They are super nice, friendly and… well…sweet. They thank you for your purchases and thank you even more when you pay cash by giving you a complimentary candy from a little candy bucket by the registers.

I usually don’t like caramel, but I stumbled upon Andy’s and I tried a sample of their chocolate and peanut butter caramel balls. they were SO GOOD! they had them in a plastic baggy for $ 5 but I decided to buy them in the fancier jar version which was like $ 8.
It took me forever to get out of there because there was so much unique candies to choose from. I will definitely be there again!

You come in, and I guarantee that you cannot leave without purchasing something from here. Although their goodies could get a little expensive, it’s totally worth it! I have been here a few times now due to my daily lunch walks. Every time I have gone in, I didn’t leave empty handed.
My favorite goodies are the gummies in there! One in particular are the strawberry foams! My boyfriend is a chocolate lover so I always get him the chocolate covered peanuts. HE LOVES THEM!
They have a HUGE selection of goodies for all types of candy lovers! They even have some old school candy that you probably haven’t seen for a while!
If you’re downtown and walking by, I HIGHLY recommend this place for you! Amazing place!

Cute and small candy shop located in the downtown area of Sacramento. They have a nice variety of chocolates and small craft like knick knacks. Overall I am definitely pleased with their products while visiting here. Occasionally I’ll swing by during the lunch hour to pick up a few chocolates to munch on.
They also have a lot of small craft like knick knacks which are great small gifts for that craft lover. During this visit, I purchased a small bear like coin purse which I will throw in an iTunes gift card for my mom as a birthday present.
For small gifts like these, I recommend a visit to this shop. They just might have that gift for that hard to shop person.

I’ve recently visited this local business because my coworker told me about their wonderful candies and Andy, who he talked highly of but I have yet to meet.
I decided to come here after going to the gym around the corner. I know I know, candy isn’t the best post workout meal but could you blame me? Haha. I was greeted by Andy’s friendly staff each time I’ve visited. She was really kind and patient with me as I asked her a billion questions about the candies they have to offer. She even let me sample a few! They have a variety of chocolate covered candies, sour candies, candies from around the world, candies for 10 cent a piece, etc. I’ve been here twice now and I’m planning on going back after I finish this review.
I love sweet factory at the mall because their sour belts are really sour. But, because Andy’s candy store is a locally owned business and they offer quite the service, I’ll come here over a franchise any day. The price may be a bit pricey but it’s definitely worth it! And you’ll always feel welcomed right when you step foot into the shop.
I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area! You won’t regret it at all!

I came here on a recommendation of a friend of mine. I walk by the place all of the time but, have never stopped by as I never saw it. It’s on Side Street off of K Street. So, unless you Unilocal it or are looking for it, you won’t just wander in. The nice thing is once you have one good store on a side street the more you will visit the entire street. I’ve come back several times since then to another shop across the street.
My friend told me to try mini Scotty. Sadly I didn’t see them and forgot to ask. Apparently there is additional candy on the back shelf. They are more than happy to grab a jar and give you a sample. The place is really cool. It’s filled with old fashion candy and will make the perfect gift store for all candy and chocolate lovers. I loved that they had little jars you could shake and get a free sample without interacting with the staff. I didn’t buy anything this time, but the next time I’m in need of a unique gift I’ll stop by.

A kind of boutique store in a really odd part of town. For a store that’s as hip as it appears to be with interesting candies o would have pegged them to be in midtown instead of downtown though I guess it’s good to bring business to a different side of town — also I’m not a native to the area so maybe all that about sides of town is off base an meaningless. Lol.
Anyway, found this place on Unilocal.As a tradition whenever someone from work goes on a trip they bring back some treats from the area. At Andys I grabbed some brittle of some sort which was really really good and I got some individual candy pieces that are like in buckets and only a dime.
The shop candy had pieces you don’t see often. I got some zotz which is hard candy with a fizzy center. I remembered them find my from childhood so was glad to see them at Andy. In fact I enjoyed it so much I ordered some off amazon when I got back from my trip.

What a little gem of a spot in Sac! I was wrapping up a quick meeting at a studio nearby and surfing good ol’ Unilocal to see what was nearby to kill time while waiting for my ride home when this place popped up. The proximity to Temple certainly doesn’t hurt, but Andy’s has a charm so infectious that it’s worth making a special trip out.
The (owner? presumably) Andy is a genuinely kindhearted guy who didn’t mind my nerdy banter about chocolate imports and smuggling huge commercial-​sized aero bars from London back in the day (before they started carrying aero regularly here in the states, that is). when I flipped my lid over a gochujang truffle and debated for a good minute on purchasing it for myself (mind you, I already had a fistful of random candies in my basket), he simply packaged it up and gave it to me free of charge, because I «actually knew what gochujang was» and was so excited over it.
We also chatted about the nuanced differences between japanese hi-​chew vs. the american stuff (trust us, there IS a difference) and the joys of caramels. I can’t think of a more perfect person to run such a lovely business and look forward to returning soon!

I stopped by with the Local Roots ‘Gourmet on K’ tour, and already after my first step into the store I knew I loved it. There’s a great variety of candy (even a Japanese candy section), and the display of chocolates (they looked like jewels) was hard to resist, and I bought a dozen.
I’ve tried about half so far and they are all so delicious, I have never had a chocolate this good. I highly recommend all the ones from the chocolate makers ‘Puur Chocolat’.
On the tour we tried the ‘casa’ chocolates (the chocolate with quinoa was surprisingly tasty), and the sea salt caramel (best sea salt caramel I have tried).
There are chocolates to try all over the store, my sweet tooth was hit pretty hard.

This ain’t the candy store of your childhood. NO! It’s even better!
Andy’s Candy Apothecary is the more fantastic and sophisticated version of the sweets emporium of your dreams. When you walk in, you’re instantly in awe of all the treats you see. However, it is upon closer inspection that you get to really appreciate the genius and thought that went into this delightful place.
The store is both visually and mentally appealing. Every time I saw something cool, I just wanted to squeal with excitement. You get a little of everything: classic chocolates, trendy new flavors (bacon, sea salt), hard candies, gum, caramels, brittles, gummies, and licorice from all over the world. There is also a cute selection of gifts and knickknacks (loved the ninja chopsticks).
One of my fave parts is the ready to access samples. Strangely enough, having them all there in front of me made me even more choosy as to which one to taste. I didn’t want to seem like a greedy fat girl! One taste of the double chocolate bacon pretzel and I was in love (or lust… or both).
However, you know that there’s a lot of thought that went into every product and offering. This magic did not just happen by accident. Everything from the layout to the colors, even the lettering on the chalkboard were specifically used to illicit a joyful reaction from everyone. When I walked in, I saw the joy people got from tasting the chocolates and the nostalgic smiles of seeing your favorite childhood noms. Andy’s is more than just candy or chocolates, it’s the embodiment of happiness disguised as a candy store.

I popped into Andy’s Candy Apothecary (Andy’s) the other day for the first time, but I have known about Andy’s ever since he (because he is an ACTUAL PERSON, and not just a *random name* selected for a business) won a Sacramento kick-​start business competition a couple of years back where his business idea secured funding as a start-​up.
THE SETUP
A delightful stop near 9^th Street and the Kay Street Mall, Andy’s has all sorts of delicious candy options:

PRIVATE CANDY TASTINGS!
…Andy is most customer savvy and set’s up his own private Candy Tastings (much like a winery would do a wine-​tasting, but here with CANDY! This is something I definitely would love to set-​up with some friends sometime. :)
THE LOWDOWN
Andy’s is the best and «sweetest» lil candy store I’ve found in Sacramento so far!

Dang, it must be true love if my significant other got each other the SAME CANDY for VDay fron Andy’s.

This place is simply amazing and every time I come here I leave happy.
It’s located right next door to Temple Coffee (also fantastic), so at first I walked by it several times on my way to Temple.
Then one magical day, I decided to actually stop inside. I noticed that they have candy from all over the world (Germany, Italy, Japan, etc) and also stuff made locally (Sacramento, Berkeley, etc). The candy is all what I would call either gourmet and/​or hard to find which is what makes Andy’s stand out from other candy shops.
However, unlike other gourmet stores, the prices here are very reasonable considering the high quality that you are getting. They have free samples and individual pieces of candy that you can buy, so you are not stuck with buying something in a large quantity before tasting it first.
This is the best candy shop in the Sacramento area in my book.

Andy’s is an adorable little shop that carries unique sweet treats you won’t find at the other touristy candy shops. Their artisan chocolates are beautiful and decadent although pricey at $ 1.75 a bite but worth it for the small indulgence.
They have some of the traditional nostalgic candies like Clark Bars but the real treasures are the more local goods like the mango Chile dark chocolate I picked up made in Berkeley. Yum!
The staff is friendly, alerting you to sales and deals. I’ll definitely be back.

Finally we had a chance to try out this downtown gem.
We happen to be in the neighborhood shopping for home renovations that I made it a point to find this place!
Parking is a challenge that we had to park a block away where there was metered parking. That’s okay although downtown has its share of transients. That’s probably the reason why it took so long for me to try it out!
I love candy and who doesn’t? Because we were at the Sacramento Arts Festival the day before and one of the booths let me try out their milk chocolate with pistachios toffee that was TDF! I had to get me some toffee quickly!
So I thought why not try out this place? So here we went.
We found it; it happens to be half a block away from Estelle’s Patissiere.
We walked inside Andy’s and found a cute little candy shop. I thought to myself there better be toffee or I have to hit Sees candies! My HB just went straight to the lady and inquired do you have toffee candy? The nice lady responded quickly back with a response. There are different flavored ones pointing to a particular shelf close by. She informed us that we can sample certain ones too.
I got to try out several different flavored toffees before I settled on one. That was very easy as I settled on trio chocolate toffee. I also enjoyed lemon almonds which a member of the family said this tastes like a lemon tart. So true, so true:)
I was pretty much satisfied by then. I purchased a bag of toffee as well as the lemon almonds. OMG I’m in candy heaven now!!! Oh BTW candy is not cheap here. I purchased two bags and that set me back 9.50.
As the worker rang me up, my HB mentioned to her that it was her good fortune we were there as I wanted toffee so badly that we stumbled upon this candy shop.
Because I paid cash I got to pick up a free candy piece by the register. It was so hard that I spit it out though!
