History

Established in 2013.

Andy’s Candy Apothecary started as a dream to bring an eclectic and well-curated candy store to downtown Sacramento. This dream was aided by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership’s «Calling All Dreamers» competition which asked prospective new business owners to submit their concept and business projections in order to prove theirs was the best new business concept for downtown.

In July 2013, Andy’s Candy Apothecary was selected as the winner of this competition, and received the grand prize of: free rent for a year, $ 10,000 start-up money, $ 10,000 in construction, plus free logo & website design, POS/Inventory software, legal and accounting services, and a host of other services to help the business get off to a solid start.

The downtown community has been very receptive to the concept, utilizing our candy for event buffets, holiday gifts, in-store tastings, other special occasions, or just an afternoon treat.

Business Owner

Andy Paul worked as teacher and Youth Development Trainer for many years before realizing his dream of opening his own super-cool candy store.

Andy was always a bit of a candy connoisseur, collecting unusual (and great) candy, seeking out new candy stores whenever he was in another city or country, and reading candy blogs. This collected expertise has translated well into the store’s eclectic, and well-researched collection.

«We love their cool, curated curios, with a geographic theme – many maps and globes. Like a funky cool shop in a trendy San Francisco neighborhood.»
