Ava Video Audio

AVA is the go to place for my turntable repairs. Pat fixed my rarely seen Revox turntable after another stereo repair shop said that it was repairable. That was years ago and it’s still working today! Recently, I had a problem with the cartridge on an old Garrard turntable that Pat was able to fix while I was there. That is good old fashion service. AVA is an affordable and honest repair shop that I’m happy to recommend.

Took my Fender Blues Deluxe guitar amp in because I wasn’t getting any sound out of it and got it working good as new after he put a new power supply in. His price was fair as well. I will be taking more electronics here in the future.

Dropped Tv off today. First impressions are important. I was pleased with the owner right off the bat. We had a nice chat and took care of me quickly. I haven’t even received a call from him yet about my TV, but I felt compelled to write something positive already. I hardly leave reviews so this is saying something.

Have had a Yamaha belt drive turntable repaired. Cleaned and repaired a Kenwood stereo receiver. AVA is a one person shop and is stuffed with old audio and home theater gear. The owner/​technician doesn’t keep 9 to 5 hours, but he seems very experienced and reliable. If he cannot fix something or it may require more work, he will let you know. He is good at answering the phone, so call ahead to make sure he is in and learn how long your repair will take.
Vintage stereo receivers, amplifiers, tuners, turntables, and tape decks are his main line of work, but he can likely repair most of the newer stereo systems. Those who still remember and value their vinyl records and vintage stereos would do well to keep this shop on their list. There are few repair shops who have the spare parts, experience and patience to repair vintage audio gear. Vinyl records are making a slow comeback and for good reason – with the right audio gear and speakers, they
have a warmer and richer sound.

I took my dvd/​sacd player to him when the power supply went out. I got it back in one week. His fees were half of the best price I could find. Yes his hours are a little quirky but he’s no spring chicken and deserves extra time off. He used to work six days a week. He loves what he does which is why he still does it. So be patient with him and he’ll take good care of you.

My 18-​month-​old Samsung 32″ LCD started shutting off and on by itself and when hitting remote buttons. An internet search revealed lots of reports of capacitor issues but mine was outof warranty. Finding a TV repair place in the SF East Bay proved difficult… so many good, small businesses have been put out of business by big box stores that just want to sell you new stuff rather than repair. So I found Ava TV repair on Unilocal for Sacramento, where I work. I took it in on Tues. The Ava guy said he would call in a few days. He called on Friday, said it was ready. He replaced capacitors, bench tested, gave me a warranty on the repair… and charged less than $ 100. It now works like new. Ava is a throwback to the old days when small business craftsmen did a good job for an honest price. Please use Ava TV repair and support local craftsmen.

I recently took my TV here to be repaired — it seems like he does all sorts of electronic repairs eventhough he advertises TV and VCR repair. I saw turn tables and guitar amplifiers in there as well.
He charges $ 35 to diagnose the problem, but takes that charge off your total repair bill. He fixed my TV within a day and charged me $ 140 for labor and parts.
The only thing is, he keeps quirky hours — not open until 11am, but doesn’t show up until 11:30. Sometimes leaves at 6, sometimes leaves at 4:30, that kind of thing. He’s good about answering the phone though, so call ahead of time and make sure he’s in the shop.
