California Energy Upgrade Program

I suggest everyone should avoid this company. I received a suspicious unsolicited email today. When I started checking it was clear to me that they are only collecting leads for phone solicitations that when started never stop. A few big hints that they engage in devious marketing practices is their use of a link to a YouTube video of a legitimate government energy saving program that has nothing to do with them, a fake headline about how the CA governor just approved huge home energy rebates, and a totally unprovable declaration that says «Our Records show that your home in (insert your city here) is eligible.

I’ve received more than one robocall from this company in spite of being on the «do not call» list. GO AWAY!

Beware! If their phone practices are any indication, then assume their business sucks also. Constant robo calls with caller ID changing and number changing frequently. I’ve had multiple calls in a single day. Selecting #2 to be removed from call list does absolutely NOTHING! National Do Not Call does not work. You should try
. That will stop 90% of robo calls after the first ring. Kind of satisfying to hear the phone ring just once, knowing the robo has been re-​routed to nomorobo. Also available from many phone service providers is call blocking and screening. Changing phone numbers might also work for awhile. Last option would be to have your land line disconnected. Hopefully, someone will step in and stop this madness.

This is a complete scam. They say they are working with PG&E. PG&E says that it’s not true. They call me several times a day with robo calls. Pressing «2» to get taken off the list does nothing.
If I try to speak to a representative, I can’t get an answer to a basic question without them hanging up on me.
Unfortunately the FCC doesn’t consider this a violation of the Do Not Call list, because that would mean they were calling to try to sell me something. Since they are calling to try to scam people who will get nothing in return, it’s supposedly up to the FTC.

This is a scam company that repeatedly places robo-​calls in violation of the National Do Not Call registry.
Supposedly they were being investigated by the State and other authorities as far back as January 2013 —
Would love to know how they are allowed to continue in business. I cannot get them to stop calling my home. They call every day regardless of pressing the opt-​out number on the robo call — or — staying on the line and asking to be removed from the list.

I’ll preface this with that fact that I think it’s VERY important to upgrade your house and save as much energy as possible.
That’s why we went to one of those energy services companies, paid them several hundred bucks to come evaluate our home and hoped we could do enough to get the Energy Upgrade rebate from CA. Their bid came back at $ 39,000. Um… no thanks.
So we went to another energy services company, paid them to do the same thing. Their bid? $ 18,000.
So we took their recommendations and got bids from some other non-​CEUP approved contractors. The bid? $ 10,000.
Here’s the real story on CEUP: because they know you’re required to use «approved» contractors and because they can dangle that $ 4000 rebate carrot, they know they can charge ridiculous amounts for the work. It’s a scam.
My advice? By all means, do the energy upgrades your house needs — but skip the CEU Program and get bids from other contractors. You’ll save a ton of money — even without the rebates from California.
