Crisp Catering is a Sacramento-​based catering company that was founded on the principles of providing clients cutting-​edge foods, top-​notch service, tasty traditions and dazzling displays, all in an unpretentious manner.

Joe Thompson has more than 20 years of catering experience. He is constantly developing new ideas, staying abreast of the latest trends, and ensuring that your event goes off without a hitch.

Crisp Catering is a preferred caterer of The California Museum, California State Railroad Museum, Beatnik Studios, Esquire IMAX Theater, California Chamber of Commerce, Carvalho Family Winery at the Old Sugarmill, and K-​1 Speed.

Joe opened Crisp Catering in January 2009. He is also co-​owner of Gold Rush Grille along with his wife Alison. He has been in the restaurant business for more than 25 years. Prior to opening Crisp Catering, Joe built his catering reputation through Gold Rush Grille which had done extensive catering for a number of exceptional clients, including first lady Maria Shriver, former Secretary of State Bruce McPherson, Vienna Boys Choir, actor Danny Glover and California History Museum, to name a few. Crisp Catering is carrying on that tradition.

Thank you Joe and staff. My sons Bar Mitzvah was this past weekend and I was as nervous as could be. The staff magically appeared at some point during the service and set up the buffet and set the tables with glasses and silverware and not a sound was heard. Everybody raved how great the food was, and the desserts were gone. The staff set aside some food for my husband and I since we were doing family portraits outside for what seemed like forever. The staff made sure that we had everything we needed, while they were still cleaning up from the 100 people in attendance. When they left you couldn’t even tell they had been there, the place was spotless. They even packaged up the leftover tri-​tip and chicken breasts for us to take home. We had nothing but compliments from our guests on how wonderful the food was. I am familiar with Joe from the cafeteria at the Secretary of State building near my office, and I have never had a bad meal. Joe was extremely accommodating with the deposit and let me make monthly payments all the way up to the date of the event. Excellent service, excellent food! Will definitely recommend to my friends and family if they ever need a caterer.

Joe made our wedding deliciously memorable! Good food is a big part of our lives so it was important that our guests enjoyed the dinner. We searched high and low and tried many caterers, but Crisp made the best impression in quality, service, and value. I think we can all agree that a tasty, filling meal is the start of a good night! Everyone especially loved the braised beef short ribs and potatoes. Soooo many folks have told us that this was the best wedding meal that they have ever had!
In our meetings, he was very personable and professional. He listened to our wants and preferences and then made them happen. He’s very accommodating and was willing to meet with the vendors before hand to hammer out the details and make sure the night would go smoothly.
Do a tasting; you won’t regret it!

Two things to know 1) they catered our wedding. 2) I am a type-​A, nitpicky perfectionist with a habit of obsessing and worrying. I want things done PRECISELY as I imagine them, and I like complexity. So, the five starts was well-​earned.
Joe and his crew pulled off a seamless *family-​style dinner* with multiple proteins, side dishes, breads, beverages, etc., for 160 guests sitting at 50′ long, narrow table arrangements, covered in florals and candles. So zero room for empty dishes.
This is a logistical feat, bc it requires the servers to be constantly vigilant for empty plates, guests not getting a dish passed to them, or anything getting cold. They also perfectly handled the few guests with dietary restrictions, even after I forgot to tell them the seating arrangements. AND they made me a surprise special dinner requested by my husband. So, several complex levels there.
Important – the food was AWESOME. All of it. Not too bland, not too salty. Not over or undercooked. Joe made some suggestions on tweaks to the menu I had in mind, and they were spot-​on. They handled our bar, cake cutting/​champagne, coffee service, and everything else with equally flawless service. The servers were unfailingly polite.
So for the nervous brides out there worried about your «vision” – trust me, they can handle whatever you throw at them. This was the best money we spent on the wedding.

Crisp Catering is a mega catering company. I have had the privilege of using Crisp Catering for many work luncheons and staff parties always with the most amazing food. I love the creative ideas, food presentation and it tastes so good. I am always asked what company did the catering because they love it. Joe is so easy to work with even when I call last minute for an event and they are always able to accommodate with no problem. I would highly recommend Crisp Catering for any catering needs.

Joe & Co. catered our wedding, and they were awesome – top notch food and ultra-​friendly staff.
Living in Saipan, my husband and I are huge aficionados of the locally-​grown purple sweet potato (not to be confused with the purple not-​sweet potato). A few weeks before the wedding, we decided we wanted to have them as part of food spread. Joe was able to track down a supply of the coveted sweet potatoes down and incorporated them into the menu. Addressing our last minute request went above and beyond.
The food was definitely a hit. So good, we were craving more of the food post-​wedding day. The only thing I would differently next time is coordinate how to take home the leftovers!

We had to change caterers 5 months before our wedding, and I could not be happier that Crisp Catering was available on our date, and that we chose to hire Joe Thompson and his crew.
Joe put together the best and most creative menu that we saw after sending out inquiries, and stuck to our budget (some caterers doubled the price we gave them, and their menu still looked like we would be served the standard wedding fare of dry chicken, bread, and water). Our menu was really wonderful, and perfect for a summer wedding in a place where produce is fresh and available. Joe also responded to all of my 50+ emails very quickly, and answered even my most off-​the-​wall questions professionally. He was a pleasure to work with.
The buffet was out on time, but so unobtrusively that one of the guests had to mention to me that he was hungry for me to notice that we needed to kick off dinner. The dinner at our reception was run efficiently without much input from us, and was very attractive. The staff was professional and unobtrusive. Most importantly, the food was great! My husband particularly enjoyed the main dish of pork, and I loved the arugula salad. They also poured our champagne and cut up our homemade cakes.
I would happily recommend Crisp Catering to all of my recently engaged friends, and hire them again.

Joe gotta be one of the nicest guy you’ll ever meet to accommodate your needs. Very easy going to talk too, open to suggestions, no pressure, and always able to work with you at any point of time as he’s very responsive via email and text message.
I used Crisp Catering for my works holiday luncheon last year. I advised Joe there’s 63 workers and we’re on a budget. He was able to create this awesome buffet style menu which consists of a Spring Mix Citrus Salad, Crispy Pot stickers with a Spicy Thai Chili Drizzle Sauce, Double Whipped Garlic Roasted Mash Potato, Season Mixed Grilled Vegetables and Panko Chicken Marsala Sauce top with extra Mushrooms.
The food was brought to my work and kept warm in chafers as one of his workers set everything up in the conference room. Very nice touch.
The food turned out amazing and I received numerous amounts of compliments from my coworkers.

Joe and his crew catered at our daughter’s wedding at the Old Sugar Mill last weekend, & it was magnificent! We have had consistent raves about the food: «the best wedding food ever!» is the recurring response. Further, Joe’s staff were efficient, courteous, & worked cooperatively with the staff from other vendors. This company is nothing but fabulous, & we recommend them for ANY event!

I used Crisp Catering for my post wedding celebration at the Old Sugar Mill in November 2011. Out of all the caterers I contacted for the event, Crisp was the most flexible and the best value. The cheese platter was incredible, the bruschetta was delicious and they even threw in a free veggie tray. Tri– tip and chicken were the main course and despite my reservations they were both equally delicious. The tri-​tip had excellent flavor and was perfectly cooked. The chicken was also flavored very well and was tender and juicy. The entrees were accompanied by tasty roasted vegetables, spring mix salad, a special non-​mayo based potato salad and rolls. The price per person was a great deal and we had a ton of leftovers. Even months later I’m still hearing about how great the tri-​tip was. If you need a caterer in the Sacramento area, definitely give Crisp Catering a try.
Note: The owners also run the Gold Rush Grill at the Secretary of State’s Office. Having experienced both, be sure to give Crisp Catering a fair chance, the food served via Crisp Catering far surpasses the food served daily at the Grill.

I’ve been using Crisp Catering for the past few years for events– business lunches, breakfasts and receptions. Working with Joe and his staff is easy and seamless. And the food is local, sustainable and delicious. For the service and quality they provide, the costs are very reasonable.
Joe takes pride in his company, and it shows. His employees offer top notch service and always go out of their way to make sure events go well.

Crisp is a great all around catering company. I have used them for personal parties, business parties and fundraisers. The owner is fantastic to work with and he just «gets it.» They take pride in their services and food, which shows in the final product. I am a detail and organization freak and I know when I work with Crisp, no detail will be forgotten. Whatever you need they can do it! I reccomend Crisp for personal as well as business functions.
