Eyes On J Optometry

I don’t usually go to the optometrist but this was an excellent example of how it should be. Everyone has great service, from the front desk lady to the optometrist.
What I appreciate is that they take the time to explain everything, including what is covered and what you have to pay out of pocket for, why you would want it or not, and also, most importantly to me, what my results/​images mean for my eye health. I wound up having slight eyesight impairment, but she also didn’t try to get me to buy a pair of eyeglasses because she knew I didn’t need it. They also schedule your next annual check-​up in their system to send you a reminder but are clear you have flexibility, which I appreciate because life is hectic and I forget things like this.
I appreciated all of these details.

I am leaving for another optometrist. I was a customer for ~10 years. Very disappointed how things are going over there.
Full description below, but itemize points:
1. Over does the text and email alerts. I get it, I have an appointment.
2. No notice or disclosure of 10 minute cancellation policy until you are 10 minutes late.
3. Parking the building they occupy is the only thing close and available. Cost $ 6.00 for 1.5 hours. No parking validation for that parking, only parking that is 2.5 blocks away that they then only disclose after you have parked.
4. Unwilling to accommodate you.
5. Any cool pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses you find, they are not willing to try to get them for you. What you see is what you get.

6. Talking to the staff is like being on a call with cable/​phone company.
My 5 year old son and I were running late. We received a phone call from them on the way, and the receptionist stated that they have a 10 minute late cancellation policy. I look at my watch and it is 9:09am. We rushed over and were there at a total of 15 minutes late. The same receptionist told us, even though we booked back to back appointments 80 – 90 minutes total, they could not see the both of us now that 15 minutes has past. I highly doubt that a 5 year old eye check up takes the full time.
After I tell them that we are going to have my son be seen instead of me, they proceed to make us wait. We start waiting, but then I notice that with all the receptionists/​assistants there (4 – 5 total), none were going to help us or even try to accommodate to see both of us in our existing slot. They all ended up mulling around and chatting about their night. When the receptionist comes back to her desk, I ask her if they are going to see my son. She then informed me that we will have to wait until 9:40am for him to be seen.
At that point, I told them we are leaving and took my son to school. I am sure they are going to try to screw me as much as possible and charge me as much as they can and in the end, both my son and I will likely have to wait another year to get eye exams.
A little compassion for your customers and understanding that with a child, people may be late. There is no need to be so rigid and uncompromising when there are 4+ staff that could help.

I have been going to see Dr. Swanson for over 7 years a everything has gone well. However a true relationship is tested when something goes wrong. I ordered six months of contacts, a new brand I hadn’t tried, and they ended up not fitting comfortably. The lenses would get cloudy and after a week of suffering I went to see Dr. Swanson. I was able to return unopened boxes and order new contacts from another brand –she also gave me extra sets of contacts, while I wait for the new ones to arrive, including a box of the brand I didn’t like to test whether the batch of contacts I had gotten was a defective batch. She showed a lot of care and I would recommend her services.

I have been seeing Dr. Swanson for many years. She is fantastic. Kind, friendly and always has time to answer questions. The office is clean and has the latest equipment. The staff is OK. Hit or miss. I feel like they try hard, but don’t always follow through. And their frame selection is all on the pricey side. They don’t have affordable frames anymore.

I’ve been going to Eyes on J for years and they’ve alway been great. Dr. Swanson is especially fantastic. During my most recent eye check up I had to bring my 6-​month-​old daughter. Dr. Swanson and the staff not only helped entertain my daughter when she got a bit fussy, but she moved swiftly through the appointment. Great service as always. Thank you!

There were two really nice women at the desk when I walked in. I just needed frames I had ordered online adjusted, and the woman who helped me was really sweet and also clearly knew her stuff — i was having some problems with a new prescription and she adjusted the tilt on my frames so now I can actually see out of them. And they don’t charge for adjustments. I would definitely come back here for an eye exam, to purchase frames or to have old lenses replaced.

I went to see Dr. Swanson today after passing by Eyes on J several times and reading reviews on Unilocal.This was the best eye exam I’ve ever had. I was very pleased with the Doctor and staff. Christina took the time to help me find frames that were perfect for me. I’ve never had that one on one without interruptions. I would definitely recommend this office. CLEAN, FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGEABLE.

Very impressed with the staff. Top equipment. Very clean facility. Staff is friendly. And very good selection on glasses. Def. recommend it to anyone.

I’ve been a patient and customer for over 10 years and Dr. Swanson and her long-​time, loyal, professional staff are excellent.

I am really upset and surprised. I asked Eyes on J to mail me the glasses I had them repair (under warranty) since I needed the glasses and was unable to get to their office in person. So I called and they said they would and wanted $ 7. I asked them to bill me which this did and I promptly paid. I had no idea that they would hold my glasses until they got the $ 7. After all they do $ 100s of work for me on credit. So now I have still not received the glasses and called. Guess what they did receive my payment but they still had not shipped the glasses. What a headache. My eyes hurt too. I guess they were worried I was not going to send the $ 7? I am going to have to rethink ever going back to them again. Trust is a two way street.

I’ve been getting my eyes taken care of by these fine folks for a couple years and figured a review was looooong overdue! I went in yesterday to shop for glasses and was reminded of why I continue to go there. Christina was soooo helpful and soooo nice! She was so patient with me. I had tons of questions and didn’t really know what I wanted, and she was patient and understanding, and explained everything to me… a couple times, I might add, due to my thick headedness!
Dr. Swanson is very good at what she does. And she actually takes the time to talk to you rather than just get the examination over with and on to the next patient. I feel like they are genuinely concerned about me, as a person, not just as a client.

This practice has a great atmosphere.
Very friendly staff to greet you.
Dr Swanson has some great technology and I feel like I am getting a lot more for my money then at a typical eye exam.
She takes my overall health very serious and I like that. She not only gave me a great exam she also discussed nutrition!
I would definitely recommend this practice to my friends and family.

Dr. Swanson is fantastic. I get really nervous at optometry appts but she was great and calming me down and giving me options as she performed the tests and went over the results. Not only is she concerned with my comfort, she also is concerned with keeping eyes healthy rather than simply correcting impaired vision. I recommend her to everybody young and old!

These guys are great. Dr. Swanson is so kind and helpful. She was so generous with her time, I felt like I was her only patient. It’s so rare that you get that feeling. Usually when I visit a doctor, i feel like they are just trying to move me along. Not with her. She even took the time to satisfy my inner-​geek by giving me a tour of some of the inner structures of my eyes. I couldn’t have asked for a more thorough doctor visit.
And as for her staff, they are all very friendly and helpful. Eyes on J is highly recommended.

This place was great. Staff was friendly & professional. Dr. Sarah (Sara?) was incredible. I learned more about the human eye in 45 minutes than I have in the last 30yrs of my life.
You won’t be disappointed.

I have a hard to fit contact lens issue (post-​LASIK) and Dr. Swanson has been very patient and super-​helpful, works hard to troubleshoot your issue, looks for whatever solutions can help. Very thorough assessment and excellent patient education on how to maintain your eye health and contact lens comfort/​vision. Front desk staff are friendly and helpful.

Yes, the frames are priced rather high, but they are of very high quality. One can always ask Dr. Swanson for a written prescription and purchase the glasses from a high volume store.
What I admire about Dr. Swanson and staff is their stellar professionalism and expertise. Dr. Swanson detected the early signs of glaucoma in my eyes and literally saved my vision. She takes the experience far beyond a mere vision check. You will leave Dr. Swanson and Eyes on J assured that your eyes are healthy and your optical prescription will be accurate.

I’ve worn glasses for about 12 years and have tried several places around town… two other private practices and then the mall places. I never really felt loyal to one place because it never seemed like they would care one way or the other if I ever came back.
Going to Eyes on J was the best optometrist experience I’ve had since having to wear glasses. The staff was really really nice. They win extra points with me because I had to bring my 3 year old with me the day of my appointment and they have kids magazines to look at and the staff were all very sweet to him as well.
Dr. Swanson gave me the most thorough exam I’ve had in 12 years. She explained everything and really took her time, which I appreciated. It seems really rare these days to go to any sort of doctor and feel like they are actually concerned about your care, and I felt like Dr. Swanson was actually interested in what was going on with my vision. She, too, was also incredibly nice to my son as well, so bonus points for that.
The only downside was that there wasn’t much of a frame selection and the vast majority of frames they carry are WELL over my VSP allowance. It would be nice if they carried a larger variety and carried more brands that were not so spendy. I fell in love with a pair of glasses that were $ 480…and my frames allowance is only $ 75.
The upside to that is that they have a drawer set aside for VSP customers with all the frames that are covered by the piddly $ 75 allowance. As is expected, there was nothing super cute or stylish in there but I did manage to find one pair that will work enough till I get my tax return and can splurge on nicer frames.
Overall, after 12 years, I feel like I’ve found «my optometrist» that I will return to for all my future exams. And, as a mom, it’s extra nice I found a place that I feel like my kids would be well served at as well.

Came in for glasses and contacts. The glasses experience was okay. Fabiola and Anne were snobby and rude but their co worker was helpful in aiding me in my search for frames.
As for the contacts, I was given a trial pair. It was obvious it wasn’t the right prescription from the start. After two weeks I went back in, was re evaluated and given another pair of trial contact lenses. After two weeks I went back in and needed yet ANOTHER PAIR of trial lenses. These were also wrong! I ended up ordering the incorrect prescription because I was standing up in a wedding and wanted to go sans glasses. I will not be back… the staff is rude and the ophthalmologist couldn’t even get my prescription right after 3 separate attempts. I’ve never had such an annoying eye doctor experience.

I’ve been a customer at Eyes on J since 2007 and have had 3 annual appointments. My first two were flawless. Both appointments were with Dr. Swanson and she was great.
Prior to this year, they always had books of glasses that were available to order. It was great because their in-​store selection is horrible. So they would offer to order the frames in and I could try them on. However, they had one lady there (I think it is Fabiloa) who is great at fashion. She would help me select and I wouldnt event bother ordering them for a fitting… I would just order them directly with the prescription already in.
This year, I had my appointment with the other doctor. She is nice an all… but she kept talking to me about my profession… which I didn’t really want to talk about. So my appointment took well over an hour. After, I walked out to look at frames… they didnt have anything at all that I’d consider. so I asked for the catalogs… To my surprise — they didnt have any except one from last year that was shredded and really hard to look at. Luckily, I found one.
It took me 17 days for them to get my frames in (as opposed to 3 or 4 in the past)… and 14 days after that to get my lenses. So it was a process that lasted over a month to order a pair of glasses.
Because this experience was so bad, I can’t see myself going back there. Sorry :(I really liked them the first two years. but this was just bad, bad bad.
