Sacramento is not known for their food and Freeport Bar & Grill doesn’t really contradict that statement. Ordered the mini tacos thinking that they would be mini soft tacos with some fresh food but in fact they are frozen mini tacos that you can probably buy for significantly less in the frozen aisle store of your local grocery store. If you have any other option trying eating somewhere else.

Second time coming here. First just for drinks and apps and the second time for lunch. The bar area inside is really dark, almost cave like. The outside is a polar opposite with a serene atmosphere. It’s got a fountain and barrel tables and lots of seating. The food is pretty good(burgers and fries, drummies). The bruschetta is good but garlicky. Not a bad place.

Maybe just go for the bar? Don’t plan to enjoy the food! Salty, fried, poorly prepared cafeteria quality food. My husband had chicken and I had the Yankee pot roast. Poor service, bad salad with huge pieces of lettuce and tomatoes you have to re-prep yourself because they aren’t chopped up. Shredded cheese is from a bag, appetizers are the frozen and quick reheated kind. The mini tacos are the frozen grocery store type. Nothing fresh here for miles. So disappointing. It’s a shame because the patio is cute and it would be a great little spot. But it’s in such desperate need of refreshing ideas!

My husband and I did not have a good experience with Freeport Bar and Grill recently. In fact, we have never had a good experience with them and I finally decided to write a review about it. There service is usually okay although the hostesses could use some customer service training. The woman who was bar tending was the real problem. There was no greeting at all to acknowledge us and it took forever for her to even approach us. The food is ridiculously overpriced for the actual execution and quality that is served. The soup was overly salty. The cheese sticks were cold and obviously pre frozen. We did enjoy the bbq sandwich and fries but not for that much money. Crazy!

This place has been around a long time and there were lots of regulars there. I had crabcake Benedict and it was one of the best I’ve had because it wasn’t a crabcake it was all crab so it was delicious. The skipper had chorizo and eggs and it wasn’t too spicy but very good. Service was friendly and quick

Came here for a Monday dinner after friend wanted to meet here. I’m rarely in the pocket or River area so I’m glad I got to explore the area. This place is definitely filled with locals and regulars. It’s a cute little neighborhood restaurant and bar. I wasn’t expecting much from dinner but was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the fettuccine, steak with peppercorn, and half chicken. My steak was tender and the sauce was flavorful. I didn’t try the pasta as I’m still on my low carb diet. The chicken was tender and full of flavor. The only complaint I had was that the food was a tad salty but I’d rather have that than under flavored.

Stopped in on this little gem for a quick bite to eat and definitely was not disappointed! Since it was a beautiful day, we decided to sit outside. There is a pretty little fountain that adds nice background noise. The space is good for large parties btw! We started with the mini taco appetizer. They weren’t the tacos you normally think of, but more like taquitos in taco form. A little weird and totally not what I was expecting, but delicious nonetheless. I ordered the Cajun salmon salad. Salad was decent, expected better greenery. Salmon definitely wasn’t Cajun enough to call it Cajun. Salad gets a solid«eh.» My bf had the Spanish omelette and of course he had to add tri tip since it didn’t come with any meat. Not sure what constituted the omelette to be «Spanish» or if you could even call it an omelette since it was the food on the bottom topped with an egg. Think it was the tri tip that saved it! Other than being bamboozled by the names of the food, the ambience and service were so amazing! I would definitely come back, I’ll just make sure to read the description of the food closer next time!

The food was mediocre, nothing to rave about, like the kind you’d get at a greasy diner. The mimosa was easily the worst I’ve ever had — fizzy, sour and just OFF tasting. There was bird poop on my chair.

This place is great! Excellent atmosphere, nestled away near the river, with full bar, bountiful menu, and patio seating. They have amazing food, too. I had the cioppino on my last visit. I still try to find one of that calibre anywhere I go that offers it, but to no avail. They offer everything from seafood, to steaks, to roasted chicken, and their bar menu is incredibly thoughtful and extensive for a bar menu. Freeport also offered karaōke on Friday nights, and the hostess is friendly, talented, and good at what she does. The bartender is incredibly well-versed in classic cocktails as well as current drink fads, and he is not only knowledgeable, but friendly and efficient. My one complaint: I had lunch there one afternoon with my friend who flew in from out of town. She paid with her credit card, and that was the only time on her entire visit that she used that particular card. Upon returning home, she received a phone call from her credit card company informing her that there had been some suspicious activity on the card: two transactions which involved charges here in Sacramento at a RadioShack and a Redbox two days after she had already flown home. After putting two & two together, she realized the aforementioned sequence of events, and knew with 100% certainty that her credit card security had been breached at the Freeport Bar & Grill. This one instance causes me to dock an entire star, and if it ever occurs again, I will not go back, which will make me terribly sad because this place is fantastic.

This is the place to be! Good food, fun and best bartender around-Paco. The chef has been there for years and makes your food to perfection! Try the French onion soup, quesadilla, or prime rib. Check out happy hour on the weekdays and Karaōke on Fridays. As much as I like it being a secret, I love to see James Landeros business keep growing! Don’t pay attention to negative reviews, check it out for yourself!

This is my favorite place on our way to SACRAMENTO. We found it by accident and I am so glad we did. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything is homemade and delicious. I will always stop here when I’m heading this way. All meals are around 10.00 too.

This review is for take out. I’ve never been here nor have I heard of it before but my mom ordered a steak sandwich for my stepdad that she had me pick up. She told me that they said 20 minutes for pick up. I gave an extra 10 minutes so it would for sure be done. I went in after 30 minutes. I waited by the podium and someone greeted me. After that, she brought the check out to me. She also gave me the order of clam chowder in a styrofoam cup. Like a coffee cup that was barely warm. I even tipped for take out because I was approached quickly. I paid and the girl told me that it would be a few more minutes. I stood waiting thinking that it would only be a few more minutes when I was expecting it to be done already. I was getting impatient. After 15 minutes she finally came waking out with my order. Maybe I can update this review and make it a better one in the future if I go try this place and get a better experience.

Freeport Bar & Grill is an interesting place. It’s located in a little building on the side of a dark road that’s dimly lit with plenty of free parking. You walk into a dark dank tavern and see a bar with stools to your right and a couple of tables to the left and expect to see John Wayne wobble into the place next. The hostess will escort you to the back of the building to a brightly lit dining room that has patio seating outside and you immediately forget about the tavern like atmosphere. The menu is full of comfort food that’s really pretty good and moderately priced. The wait staff will make you feel right at home and are very helpful and accommodating. The place is clean with good ventilation. Freeport Bar & Grill appears to be a popular neighbor spot loved by the locals. I hear they have live music on occasion.

Dinner was great. After a little issue with reservation and seating us they provided great service. Chicken California style, ribeye, peppercorn steak and salmon were all delicious. Fried zucchini(which they gave us for our patience) was yummy also.

This was our 1st time at this little gem of a spot Our server was Victoria, lovely and attentive young lady. We requested to sit outside which was a quiet and pretty setting. Our order was the classic style rotisserie chicken at 13 $ and the fish with chips at 13 $. I received a fresh salad with my meal. My chicken was half of a chicken! It was served with mashed potatoes and a stuffing. The food and service was great! We did find ourselves rushing thru our meal bc of flies then a wasp, this won’t deter us from returning but we will make for certain to eat indoors.

I am conflicted! I was in for my first time in late April. It was an awesome meat and the service was outstanding. I had a New York that you could cut with a fork. My wife had scampi that was great! Salads were crisp and the blue cheese dressing was old school with plenty of chunks of blue cheese. Then I return two weeks ago and it was so so. I raved about this hidden jem to all of my friends. I took a chef friend and I was disappointed. I had a rib eye MR and it was very thing lacked in flavor and was barley MR and pushing Med. My friend had the special rack f lamb MR. It was medium medium well at best and had no demi or sauce of any kind to pull it all together. The waiter did remove the lamb from the bill but still very disappointing after raving about this place! Service was good both time but the food the second tile was… I really do hope the next time they are on mark!

Let’s just say their wait staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I’ll leave it at that. Wait… its saying I need to add more. Oh, you want some TMI? Let’s also say I actually lost weight eating here. The chunky chicken salad sandwich and fries just didn’t taste right, but of course I ate the whole thing anyway. The fries tasted fishy, for some reason. Spent the majority of the rest of the evening on the pooper. Gross. Ya. I agree. Sorry Freeport Inn, not likely returning.

My mom heard about this little place from one of her clients, so we decided to give it a try. I used to work nearby and always passed this place, so I was also very curious. We came in a little before one on a Wednesday and there was only a few other groups inside. The setting reminds of my grandparents’ house. Very woody and old. The front area that includes the bar was small, and I didn’t have much of a chance to see the back. We were offered outdoor seating, but my parents chose to eat in the front. We were seated and given our menus. The bartender asked us what we wanted to drink. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and my mom ordered a hot tea. The Arnold Palmer was plain, I had to add some packets of sugar. There was dirt particles at the bottom of my cup. But since I used to work nearby, I understand that the ice machines and water don’t filter as well because of the water source of the location by the river but my bartender switched out my drink with no problem at all. My mom had heard good things about the fish and chips, but we unfortunately came right when they ran out. My mom opted for the salmon lunch instead. She thought the fish was cooked perfectly, not overlooked and the mango salsa was a great addition. I ordered the Cheyenne burger and the flavors were great, however my bottom bun was soggy. The portion size was big. I was full off of half of the burger. My dad ordered the Yankee pot roast and I picked off of his plate and didn’t have complaints. The meat was soft and the flavors was subtle but not too bland. Overall, our service was alright. Our server did his job and checked in a few times during our meal. However, the menu was basic and the restaurant didn’t really stand out to me. I’m curious to try their breakfast next time I’m back in town.

I liked it here, with one exception that I will save to the end of the review. Its a pretty noteworthy exception, but I don’t want to color the review with this very strange quirk to our meal right up front. I ended up having to be the chauffeur for my my wife and her friends on a wine tasting expedition to Clarksburg today. Their DD had an emergency, so I ended up being the host of a fantastic lady day. We lunched at Freeport Bar and Grill. I had been to Freeport Bar and Grill about 10 years ago. All I really remember was that I was surprised by how expensive it was and that the food was pretty good. This was for dinner. We were here for lunch. Freeport Bar and Grill is a place that I really want to like. Its in Freeport, which is a cool little town that is super close to where I live. Its been there for a long time and the food is legitimately good. Lunch prices are totally reasonable. With that said, I am still undecided. Here’s the breakdown of my weekend lunch: The girls were overjoyed to find that they were still serving off their breakfast menu(it goes until 3). All of their food looked pretty good. I was only able to sample my wife’s crab Benedict, which was actually quite excellent. There was a healthy portion of crab, which was nicely done and deliciously sweet(not candy sweet, but sweet in the way crab meat is supposed to be). The hollondaise was not overly rich and the eggs were nice. The potatoes could have been a little more crisp. PROTIP: You can substitute the potatoes for mashed potatoes. With the mash, you don’t need to worry about crispness, because they are mashed. I had the rotisserie chicken, which they are known for. I had mine california style, which means it comes with carmelized onions, asparagus tips, green olives, and artichoke hearts. Oh yeah, it also comes with half a chicken. The chicken was a litte on the dry side and the skin wasn’t as crisp as I was hoping for. Still, the flavor was good and I overall enjoyed it. The onions weren’t really carmelized, and there weren’t a lot of asparagus tips or artichoke hearts my california mix. The potatoes should have been a little crisper too. The salad that came with it was pretty standard, but it was fresh and pretty good. Overall, I thought the food was pretty decent and I would give it 3 and half stars. The weird kicker that brings it down a bit… THEWATERTASTEDLIKEFARTS. What does that mean? I’m not sure. But it tasted like farts. After I mentioned it 2 of the other girls tried my water and knew exactly what I was talking about. I know you can’t really TASTE a fart, but this water TASTEDLIKEFARTS. After I noticed it, we started tasting each other’s water and 3 of the 5 glasses had that subtle fart flavor. The funny thing, and I don’t know if this speaks to our group or not, but we all finished almost the whole glass. We did eat outside and it was kind of hot that day though. Strangely, the other two glasses that were non-fartey were fine. If anything, it provided us with a hearty and meaty conversation about fart water, which was worth the price of admission on its own. I’m going to go back and try int again for lunch/brunch, but this time I’m sticking to the brunch/breakfast menu. I wouldn’t go for dinner… its a little pricey. If you are passing through and don’t want to wait the extra 10 – 15 minutes to drive the rest of the way to Sacramento, I would recommend it, fart water and all.
