Golden Palace

I have been craving BBQ pork buns for a while now. They are difficult to find at Chinese restaraunts and always very good. I found this place because of their sign saying they served Dim Sum on the weekends. After a couple of tries (I found out that the sign didn’t include that the Dim Sum is only served between something like 11 and 3), I finally got to have the Dim Sum there. First off, they give you a lot of food for your money. My fiancé and I thought we would have a little bit more food than we could handle, but there was a lot more food than we expected. The food was good. I especially enjoyed my BBQ pork buns. The only thing I would change is that they would serve Dim Sum for more than 3 hours 2 days a week.

This place had decent food, but i’m writing to let you Unilocalers know that it’s no longer Golden Palace. That closed a couple of months ago and the place has since re-​opened as another Chinese place. So if you’re looking for Chinese food in Natomas, this might still be the best bet. We’re going soon, so i’ll have to write a review once we go.
Three stars for the old place, whatever that’s worth…

My Chinese relatives wanted to go to an authentic, not American Chinese restaurant for dinner after I had cooked a fabulous meal for them earlier in the day. More importantly, they wanted something close to my home and I apologized that this was the closest place. And being former owners of an authentic Chinese restaurant back east, I knew they were going to be tough critics. Hopefully, they’ll have more time next time they come to Sac and we can go somehwere on Broadway or Freeport.
Good things: beef and egg white soup, garlic pea shoots and Peking spareribs. The let us get fruit from the buffet after our meal. Could be better: The seafood bird’s nest –seafood fine, bird’s nest was old and not edible. The peking duck with steamed buns tasty and would have been better if the meat was filleted from the bone. The gai-​lan was fresh, but the way they cooked it lacked flavor because they just throw the oyster sauce on top. I don’t know if they forgot the order of fried cod with black bean sauce because my Aunite Grace told them to slow down and not bring the dishes out so quickly or they really forgot because our waiter left early. He didn’t say anything to us about it and they did’t put it on the bill.
I think all of the people who came here while we had our meal went for the buffet. I’ve had it before. Not bad, definitely more bang for your buck.

Went here for the dinner buffet… not so good, the quality of the food wasn’t great (not spoiled or anything, just not real tasty), it was real «fishy» seafood (if you know what I mean). Our stomachs were not so happy later in the evening.

When I first moved into the area, this was the only Chinese restaurant, so naturally I went there to give it a try. The place is pretty different from your standard Chinese restaurant. They dressed this place up with a lot of nice, classic Chinese furniture and made sure to use a lot of dark accented wood to give it a sense of luxury.
The food is only ok. They have the generic food items and the make a decent Seafood with Bean Curd soup (watch the Gai Lan, however– it can be somewhat «old» ands till used as an ingredient). The prices are pretty high, but they could afford to charge it for a while. They have since started a buffet in order to compete with the other Asian restaurants that have opened around the area. I haven’t tried it yet, but I don’t go there since there are better alternatives now.
The one time we tried to speak Cantonese to them, the waiter came back and said, «I don’t speak Chinese,» which is fine but he then proceeded to greet me in Chinese the last time I walked in the door. Maybe he was learning…

The wonton soup was good and the rest of the order was alright, but the continuous construction [for the new buffet tables] and having to eat with the smell of paint thinner and glue in the air was inexcusable. The owners should have closed shop for a few days. I probably would’ve rated this place better if I didn’t have the throbbing headache from the fumes afterward.

My wife and daughter liked this place more than I did.
First off, the place is super clean and nicely decorated. This is NOT your typical hole-​in-​the-​wall, despite being in a deserted looking strip mall on Truxel…
The food is decent, but nothing to write home about. Thanks to a 2-​for-​1 Entertainment Book coupon, this place is not a bad dinner value… without the E-​book freebie, I’d come back only for the Lunch Specials.

This is my favorite Chinese food place!
I enjoy salt and pepper shrimp or squid, lemon chicken, hot and sour soup and the chow fun.
We mainly do take out since the restaurant is really large and mostly empty. The waiters are attentive but really this is a come for the food only place.
The cheesy Lite Brite painting are nice to look at as are the fresh lobsters and crabs.
We’ve had the family dinner a few times and it is also yummy. A ton of food for only $ 12 a person.

I was surprised at how nice the atmosphere felt when I walked in and how big the space ended up being. The dark wood tables/​chairs and glass tops on the tables were very welcoming. The carpet looked a bit worn, but that’s something that only I would notice. There was a room in the back that looked like it could be used by really big parties.
The food was decent. As someone else stated, the pot stickers and sauce were good. I’m REALLY picky about my Chinese food. It’s not that it has to be authentic, but I enjoy spicy and most people I dine with don’t do spicy, so I end up unsatisfied.
The chicken chow mein was good, but a little bland. Some people like bland though. The sesame beef was OK. The sauce was a bit too sweet/​thick for my mood. Oddly enough, the fortune cookies were really good. They didn’t taste like the dry cardboard you find in most restaurants. They actually tasted like cookies.
The parking was easy since it’s in that strip mall abutting Arco Arena. It was early when we went in, so the place was a little slow, but it picked up as the night progressed. The service was good. We didn’t have to wonder where our food/​server/​water might have disappeared to.
Overall, I’d go back and probably try something a little more spicy along with those pot stickers.

Stopped by on my way home to have a bite to eat and take home some soup and chow fun for later. The potstickers and wor wonton soup were good, the broth was clear and tasty, and the sauce for the potstickers interesting (although I missed the vinegar!) The corn/​chicken soup was okay and the chow fun was pretty good. The service was good, the food was good, the prices were reasonable. I’ll definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.

You can’t complain about your elbows being stuck to the table here. This is one of the few Chinese restaurants in Sacramento that actually feels clean. And almost unheard for Chinese restaurants is that you actually get soda refills.
And you also won’t be complaining about the food either. If you are looking for the frog legs or shark soup then you might be better off going somewhere else. The food is authentic but leans on the side of ‘American tastes’. But if you want a descent selection from seafood to noodles that will even get the finicky eaters eating then this is the place to go. All of it is well prepared and brought out in a timely manner.
