Greek Village Inn

Do you think if we all wish hard enough they will reopen else where in Sacramento region. I have yet to find anything comparable to the deliciousness of the food and the kindness of the staff.

I miss this place. I wish they would reopen. They had the best Greek food and were the friendliest people. I miss the pasticcio and kok. I wish they had a restaurant up here in Rocklin. :)

My daughter and I went here today to have lunch. We were so surprised to see that it had closed! We were so sad. The owner was such a nice man and the food was always amazing!!! Thank you so much off the many years of amazing food! You will be missed!!! Thank you for all the great meals we enjoyed at your restaurant!

I have had better Greek food, I am disappointed in this evenings meal.
I had an Ouzo on the rocks which mellowed me out and shared several appetizers as well as a meal with my family.
The flaming cheese appetizer was the hit of the meal for the three of us, the Feta cheese platter was very good as well.
My daughter and I had a platter of roasted red beets with roasted Garlic, the beets tasted like they came out of a can and the garlic was raw and gagged me, no I am not a fan of this dish and would not order it again, it was graciously taken off the bill.
The service was very friendly, but the soup we ordered was mentioned several times but never served.
My son had the Greek platter, all was ok, but nothing memorable. We shared a taste, all was sort of bland, I am not likely to go back.

My partner and I went to this place based on good Unilocal reviews. The food was okay — feta was good pita was cold and the greek salad was above avg – good olives.
This place gets a poor rating because of the treatment of the server by the manager who after hearing our praises of her wonderful service said to me (I am a male) «You think shes good here? you should take her home… hey Mike (speaking to another patron) tell ‘em didn’t you take her home last week?»
This was a disgusting, sexist reference insinuating much more than excellent and attentive restaurant service — and the waitress was clearly uncomfortable but used to this treatment. When we explained to the manager how this made us feel he said «This is a family restaurant we are like family here» — so I guess thats how he talks about his sister around company? GIVE ME A BREAK… check please!
We don’t approve of this and as we told the manager we won’t be going back. «Family restaurant» should not be used as a blanket that permits the mistreatment of hard working women.

Oh man, was I impressed! Their dolmas were incredible (great lemon sauce!) The Greek burger with mozzarella was impeccable and the chicken skewers with tiziki and pitas was out of this world. Granted, the pitas did not taste homemade, but they were still pretty freakin good. We did need to send back the fries for my husbands burger for being under cooked, but we snacked on my chicken skewers and pitas and didn’t mind a bit. Im so glad I finally found a good Greek restaurant. Ive tried 2 others (Opa Opa and kabob house) they were not so good Im afraid. Next to try? Café Europa=)

I went there for lunch the other day with a group of 6. The mostly empty restaurant had no problem putting together a few tables for us.
We started with a a cheese dish that they served flaming at table side and doused the flames with fresh lemon juice. You cut a piece and smeared it on pita bread… Very good!
This was my first time there, so I asked the waitress for her to recommend their signature dish or what she’d suggest. She recommended the Club or the hamburger. Wait, isn’t this a Greek place?
I finally ended up ordering the gyro platter. It’s a Greek place so this Greek staple must be good. It was served on a plate with some rice and on top of a pita. The pita was soggy. The rice was still in the shape of whatever measuring device the used. It was a small portion that looked like a shot glass. And now on to the star of the dish — the meat. It was all dried out and didn’t taste too fresh.
I split mine with a friend and my girlfriend. My friend had a grilled eggplant sandwich. It was OK. The eggplant was a little too mushy and there was too much feta chese on it.
Now my girlfriend had the best lunch of all of us. She ordered the mousaka. That dish was full of flavor. The meat in this dish was still juicy and just tasted good.
Overall it was OK. Out of the three dishes, 1 was great, 1 was average, and 1 was below average. I’ll go back and try some other dishes. The dinner menu looks a little more extensive so I’ll need to try that.

I have been to Greek Village Inn 4 – 5 times, and it is a decent Greek restaurant in the Sacramento area. But I have been to better Greek places in other cities. The waiters are all very friendly and the ambience is also good enough. The prices are reasonable for lunch.
This is also the 1^st ever restaurant we took our baby to.

Ate here for Mother’s Day lunch with Simone. It was both our first time here and so we sticked with what we know. We tried the Hot Pita Bread with Tzatziki. The Hot Pita Bread was so nice and fluffy and warm. We dipped it with the Tzatziki sauce. It was the first time I tasted the Tzatziki that had a hint of garlic or onion flavor (cant remember). But all I could remember is that it had a hint of that and cucumber. Im not a hard core food critic, so I dont hold a paper and pen doing that at restaurants. Sooooooo all I could remember is that it tasted really good. Then we both had the Traditional Pita with Salad. Our Pita was with Chicken and mixed nicely with veggies and their special sauce. The Pita was crispy outside and fluffy in the middle. That was different for me. The salad had a nice Balsamic dressing with a mixed with carmalized onions (that was different for me). I enjoyed all of it. I will definitely go back and try it again. It tastes really good. Maybe next time we will try dinner.

I have always wondered how to call it — Greek food or Grecian food? Either way, I’m starting to discover a strong interest for this alternative to the other more commonly available ethnic restaurants that are out in our environment. This cozy little Inn features authentic Greek cuisine with a menu that offers recipes for every palette. The dining room is not set up for an intimate or romantic experience, but they do cook up some elegant food and attentive service, even during their busy hours.
We purchased a nice little Groupon deal for two. So we couldn’t wait to try this restaurant out. Even though we arrived for what we thought would be an early dinner, the place was filled with patrons already! Fortunately a small table was open just for us! Our server was a little overwhelmed and it looked like she was responsible for many tables. But she managed to give us a friendly smile and courteous service even through the time consuming questions my boyfriend kept asking about the menu.
He finally decided on Arne Me Garides which is lamb shanks with Orzo and Mizithra cheese. I ordered the Garides Mi Skordo which is 4 prawns sautéed in extra virgin olive oil and fresh garlic, placed on a bed of cooked spinach, with a generous scoop of rice set in the center. Our meal began with a bowl of white bean and tomato soup, with a side of pita bread. Then the main courses arrived looking and smelling delicious! My boyfriend enjoyed his food immensely. My food was good also, but I wasn’t expecting such an abundance of olive oil in this dish. Still, the combination of seasonings brought about some flavorful shrimps. The spinach was also a bit too oiled up for me to finish. However, the rice was tasty and helped me to recover from eating too much of said olive oil. We ended our dinner by splitting some Baklava. The flavor of this dessert wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. It had the sweetness of honey, but I think it had a strong flavor of cloves mixed in. A different kind of taste that I’m not used to eating in Baklava, but acceptable.
I could tell that the owners and staff of this restaurant show pride in their establishment by working hard to keep patrons happy. With a positive atmosphere like that along with their authentic Greek food, you can be sure my interest is still peaked to explore more of those Grecian recipes they have brewing in the kitchen.

Everybody can have their Gyros, Tyropitas, Spanakopitas, Souvlakis, Musakas, and Dolmathes. Greek Village Inn has Arne Me Garides. Don’t ask me to pronounce that for you. All I know is it is braised lamb shanks with orzo and mazithra cheese.
We started out with bowls of white bean soup made with a light tomato broth. It was so good that I would have been happy with just a large bowl of soup and some hot pita bread.
I had barely finished my soup before being presented with a very large lamb shank perched majestically upon a beautiful orange broth lightly dusted with delicate stands of mizithra hiding a treasure of precious little orzo nuggets below.
As I gently dug into this magnificent mound of meat, chunks voluntarily dropped into the rich sauce below and even though some of the meat was slightly dry the redeeming quality of the sauce created a richly satisfying result.
My girl friend ordered Garides Me Skordo. Don’t ask me to pronounce that either. It was four giant shrimp on a bed of sautéed spinach with a small mound of pilaf in the center.
To me, no Greek feast is complete without a little baklava so even though we were quite full we had to share a piece. The baklava was a bit small and had a slightly different flavor than I was use to.
I was half expecting Zorba to come dancing by, but Leo’s casual appearances with that magnificent new hair style was a most welcome consolation prize.

I have to give credit where credit is and UPDATE my previous review, because Greek Village Inn has more than redeemed itself in our eyes.
Hands down, GVI has the BEST gyros meat in Sac. It’s tender and juicy and oh-so-flavorful…yum! Not to mention there was a LOT of this delicious protein loaded into our gyros sandwiches. It was just so.dang.good! Kudos!
I also love the flavor of their tzatziki… I think it’s got a little extra garlic in it than most others I’ve tried. I can tell you ANY tidbit left over from our appetizer plate (because we ALWAYS run out of pita bread before we run out of dip!) is quickly scooped onto a bread plate so I can use it to extra-​smother my gyros with it!
Oh, and cannot forget to mention that the service was just SO much better this trip. The two gals handling all the folks in the restaurant during this Saturday lunch (I’m guessing their Groupon may have had a helping hand in that, because I know that’s what brought us back as well) did a bang-​up job. Plus, it’s always nice to see the owner guy in there, helping out with refills and processing payments.
Next trip, I am gonna try something besides the gyros just to broaden my horizons! Looking forward to it, because I just KNOW it’s gonna be tasty and delicious… good job, GVI!

We came here on a nice warm winter day and were excited for some Greek food. We opted to sit outside and were promptly brought water and menus.
Atmosphere: It seemed casual and nice inside, with the clientele ranging from families to elderly couples. We sat outside which had a few tables with an umbrella on it. Music piped outside and was something like alternative Greek, it was quite nice. I could almost imagine myself dining at a cute restaurant in Greece.
Service: I was surprised at how negative how some of the reviews are about the service. I thought the service was quite good and friendly. Our water and diet cokes were refilled often. When our server forgot our salad instead of fries, she quickly got us the salad.
Food: Beef/​Lamb Gyro with Salad (and accidental fries): Large hearty portion stuffed with what looked like a ton of meat. Bf thought it was very good and he liked the salad and tzatziki (sp?) sauce that came with it. He said the meat was quite good and flavorful.
Vegetarian Pilikia Platter: Came with 1 spanokopita (spinach filled phyllo pastry), 1 tyropita (cheese filled phyllo pastry), tzatziki sauce, roasted beets, a few olives, pita wedges, 2 dolmades, and 3 cute cubes of feta cheese. Everything tasted good, with the pita bread and tzatziki sauce being my favorite. The dolmades were more oily than I’m used to.
Overall: I would definitely recommend and try other items such as the eggplant sandwich and maybe just pita with the tzatziki sauce. Wouldn’t get the dolmades again. I think things are a bit pricy for what it is, but that’s just my opinion.
Vegetarian Note: Plenty of vegetarian options.

Having read some of the stellar reviews prior to visiting, I have to say, I was underwhelmed. It is not a bad place, 3 stars = A-​OK according to Unilocal,and I’ll give it that. Quite expensive though, and were it not for the Groupon I used, I’d feel like I overpaid by a lot.
We ordered the $ 16 appetizer plate. I thought for $ 16 that would be a lot of appetizers. Wrong. There was only 1 of some of the items, so you don’t really share the plate. 3 dolmas, but they were not good, neither of us liked those (CostCo’s are much better).
The $ 15 salads were dripping with the oily dressing. Literally sopping wet. I had a much better Greek salad at the S.F. Giants baseball park, and despite the high price of ballpark food, it was half the price!
Service was good. Friendly and helpful. There is a funny bus boy there who was always asking if we wanted something. He was very enthusiastic, just odd. Towards the end of our meal he made his way through the restaurant, holding out a single unwrapped straw, encased in a napkin, and offered it to the diners at each table. lol

I suggested meeting friends for dinner here with some trepidation as I thought nothing could compare to the Greek restaurant in Davis. Now I am glad that we did. We had a wonderful dinner and a very friendly and enthusiastic server.
The lamb was wonderful. I really like their Greek style potatoes, much better than those served at the aforementioned Davis restaurant. The avgolemono soup was a bit salty. The pastichio was delicious.
One friend had the grilled prawn salad. Her only complaint was that the tomatoes were a bit on the green side. The salad did look beautiful.
OK, Sacramento, you do have a really good Greek restaurant, on par with our favorite in Davis.

I have driven by this place many, many times and it’s very near my work. I’m very glad I purchased a Groupon because now I know where to find supernaturally good Greek food. This isn’t cheap food court Med stuff — this is elegant, authentic, and upscale. It’s about on par with good Indian food, price-​wise.
We came for dinner and split the Pikilia platter, which I highly recommend. It has gyro, which are supernaturally good, which thick creamy tzakziki sauce, soft, mild feta cheese, and pita bread. It also includes several phyllo filled pastries and homemade dolmades. We also got the Pastrichio (ok, if a little bland), which came with a bowl of Avgolomeno soup, which simply must be tried. It is comfort in a bowl!
Now that we know where it is and how good it is, I am sure we will be back to Greek Village Inn.

Awesome Greek food and family owned restaurant, different than Eastern Mediterranean food. Everything very tasty — spanakopita, tyropita, dolmathes, Greek feta cheese, tzatziki, pita & kalamata olives. In particular, the gyro was excellent, tender and juicy and the tzatziki was thick, creamy, and savory.

On the hunt for a restaurant with a patio serving light lunches, I remembered I’d always wanted to try this purveyor of Greek cuisine.
After reading about the Saganaki in other reviews, I was disappointed to learn that they were out. According to our charming waiter, the stagnant Greek economy has been making their shipments of the Greek cheese sporadic at best. He recommended trying the grilled herbed feta instead. It was tangy and luscious. really good. It’s served with grilled crostini, but there’s way more cheese than bread, so he thoughtfully offered some pita chips.
Also on his recommendation, we tried the lamb chops (thin, but perfectly cooked), a Greek platter (a nice assortment if you just want to get a taste of a few items) and chicken kabobs (a little dry and bland, skipping these next time).
I adore soup and had never tried Avoglemeno. The delectable lemony chicken and rice concoction is a new love. This was probably my favorite part of the meal.
Sitting on the cute little patio at Greek Village Inn on a warm spring afternoon, I found it easy to imagine what it would be like eating their fresh, tasty food by the Mediterranean seaside. It was a glorious day and the meal matched the mood perfectly.

I went here once long ago, when I was in highschool and thought this place was really expensive. LOL For whatever reason I still had that in my head so never really went back.
One day my co-​worker and I were discussing what our favorite places to eat were, and she mentioned this place. She was practically salivating when telling me her favorite items to order. I was confused by her excitment, but after much encouraging, I promised her I would give it another shot and order what she suggested.
I am a girl of my word, and that week went in to Greek Village Inn for dinner. I ordered exactly what my coworker said to. For an appetizer I ordered the Saganaki, which is a Greek cheese. They pour lemon juice and alcohol over the fried cheese and set it on fire before serving. The appetizer comes with pita wedges to spread all that cheesy goodness on. SO GOOD! The table next to mine heard me and my dinner pal talking about how good it was that they too ordered it.
For the entrée, I once again took the advice from my co-​worker and ordered the Grecian Plate which comes with your choices of Gyros, Pork, Chicken or Lamb Chops as well as your pick of Spanakopita or Tyropita, Dolmathes, Potatoes with a choice of Pastichio or Mousaka. We went with the Gyros and Spanakopita, Dolmathes, potatoes and Mousaka.
Gyros– SUPER FLAVORFUL! Very well seasoned and tender.
Spanakopita– It was good, however I was annoyed that there was far more of the flaky pastry then the actual filling.
Dolmathes– They were okay. Not very flavorful even with the smidgen of sauce they put on top.
Potatoes– Ehh skip it
Mousaka– Came out a tad cold which of course was a dissapointment but the flavor of the dish itself was very good.
Tzatziki– SO GOOD! Tastes so fresh and with a bit of zing! Nice chunks of cucumber as well.
The plate was obviously large enough to split and only cost $ 18.95 and the appetizer an additional $ 10.95(cheese is expensive but so darn worth it!)
Definitely going to return!

My office ordered lunch to-​go from here, so I didn’t really have much of a chance to sit in and appreciate the building. But once I did step in, I instantly smelled the deliciousness. Mmm.
It took me a while to get back to the office, so mind you, the food had prolly been sitting out 45 minutes from the time it was prepped up until I actually got the food to my coworkers. I don’t know how, but those tomatoes on my gyro still tasted fresh and were infused with Greek goodness. The gyro meat? Still delicious. Ohmygoodness, what deliciously fresh and homemade tzatziki?! Sooo good.
The fries were a little soggy and salty, but because I was so hungry, they tasted pretty good. But still, for the whole meal, that’s pretty effin AMAZING if it tasted that good even for being out for a while.
