His son Denny has been a permanent fixture in the store since age of 7 where he started out with a broom, dusting cloth and constant teachings of customer service from his father. Hollywood Hardware is still owned and operated by Denny Messner and has a 6 year KCRA Alist Winning Housewares and Gift department founded by Denny’s oldest daughter Teri. The Messner hand is always involved in the merchandise, display and customer service that has helped Hollywood Hardware remain in business since 1948. The pride of the Messner family and more importantly the Hollywood Hardware Employee Family combined with the loyalty of customers over the years is the reason Hollywood Hardware is historical community fixture in Sacramento.

I’m always like a kid in a candy store when I come to this place. I come in thinking I’m going to get one thing, and leave out the door with several things. This is not your average everyday hardware supply store. They carry everything from light bulbs to paint… cooking supplies, knick knacks and cute Treasures. I’ll be back for their legendary grand opening June 4th 2016. Although it’s not really their grand opening… it’s really a grand opening for their new items and selections…

I went out of my way to come here (rather than a big box chain) for specific items only to told they are out of stock. The store seems cramped, poorly lit and the employees don’t talk to you unless you approach them first. Kind of dissapointing for a mom and pop type store.

HH is great, the staff really takes time out to discuss your needs. The remodel seems to be a bit ongoing. But it’s still well organized.
I’ve been a regular customer about 3 – 4 times a month and still have yet to have a poor experience.
The only suggestion I have for improvement… Turn on that sweet neon sign on top of the building!

Saturday morning employees are grumpy and rude. Teen cashier gruff and rude, guy stocking shelves acted like he wanted to pick a fight with me, because he wasn’t watching where he was going. I’ll take my business to Home Depot. I don’t need your brand of friendly neighborhood service.

Hollywood Park has a gem in in this hardware store. This is a fantastic mom and pop shop, that has a little bit of everything. It is easy to drive right past it on busy Freeport Blvd., but once you discover this great store, you will visit it again and again.
This is truly an old-​fashioned hardware store complete with open bins as well as packaged items. The variety for the size of the store is good, and if you have any questions or need to find something, the clerks are quick to help you. In the case that they do not have an item, they can order it for you. Unlike a big box store that has an over abundance of products, they have a carefully selected stock based on years in the business.
The customer service is top notch: I have always been assisted by a friendly, smiling face. It feels like a small town store in the midst of a busy town. I have also called and asked if they had something in stock, and they were polite and easy to talk to. Trying to find help in a big box store is like finding a needle in a haystack.
To have a friendly store to purchase your hardware needs and answer your questions is truly something to give five stars to. Kudos Hollywood Hardware!

When I need parts for something, this is the first place I go because they usually have the parts available and can also explain how to fix and replace your item if you need that type of help. Emigh is well known for excellent customer service, whereas at big box stores customer assistance ends after you walk in the store. In addition, staff are friendly, ccourteous, and knowledgeable – bonus!

5 stars for a hardware store? Yes! Super intelligent folks. Great selection. Need something a bit better quality than Home «Orange Mega Store» Depot? Plus competitive pricing compared to Amazon. Maybe not cheaper but pretty dang close.

Great local hardware store. Went in for wire cutters and electrical tape, since the squirrels had a hay day with our bistro lights again. I came out with exactly what I needed… did you know electrical tape comes in many different colors and they have many. Now my repair to the wire will not be so obvious. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Love the location too.

A Hollywood Park staple and for good reason. Please remember your local folks before you head to a big box store. Sadly, the selection isn’t huge but I would gladly pay twice as much to keep this gem shining.

What a cute store! Hollywood Hardware has that classic ‘mom n’ pop shop’ feel, all the standard items you would need in a hardware store, friendly and helpful staff members, and HOLY CROW their kitchenware section is more like an upscale gift shop. Candles, jewelry, decorative tins, home décor, bags and purses, scarves… if we weren’t hungry and on our way to lunch, I could’ve shopped that one section for at least 30 – 40 minutes.
Awesome stuff! I’ll be back soon when they start stocking live plants, and for more drooling over pretty things.

I had one great employee special order a paint brush for me and when I called about picking it up had a different employee tell me they couldnt get it and hang up on me. If your to busy to explain sumthing just say so so that i can choose to ask later or on a different day. otherwise i love this store and choose to pay a lil more for some items to help support smaller locally owned stores. Normally would get a 5 star rating but this experience has cost them three stars.

This store is in my neighborhood, and 9 times out of 10 I cannot think of a good reason to go to a big box chain instead of here. Occasionally, very occasionally I’ve found some prices to be a little higher here than the chains but I’m happy to say that most of the time they will be comparable or less. I like that with many items like nails and bolts I can get what I need and not have to buy a whole box. Compliments to the home and kitchenware buyer-​great items that I don’t see everyday, a lot of things that make life just a little easier-​I got a peanut butter stirrer there once for natural peanut butters that separate and a spout for pouring grease from a frying pan. One thing I love is that if you see an item like a cast iron pan, or a sifter, they come in just about every size.
Service is the best I’ve had in any hardware store. Staff is knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and always available. This place fills a void in my area because it’s either go north to downtown or south to the Home Depot (s). Love the original lighted sign and the feel and layout of the place, and correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that it’s been a family owned business, the same family, since it opened.

Hollywood hardware isn’t just tools, hardware and paint — it’s knowledge. It’s care. It’s the time that you get when you have a problem, it’s satisfying, and it’s fun to go there. Whether it’s the thermo coupler that needed to replaced in our water heater or the M6 40 mm metric bolt I needed for my motorcycle, they have it, will give you advice on it, and make you feel great.
Today instead of reaching the phone to call a plumber to fix a stubborn leak, I called Hollywood hardware and they assured me they had everything I needed to fix the problem — and they did. And gave advice on how to do it. As a new home owner, a resource like this is incredible. I feel great, and I’m learning quite a bit. If they don’t have exactly what I need — I’ll happily wait, because usually it isn’t something crucial.

Is love too strong a word to use about a hardware store?
I definitely like this old fashioned hardware store where they have staff that can help you find what you want. You can get just one or a few of practically any screw, washer, nut or bolt that you may need without having to buy a prepackaged amount (try to do that at a big box store).
Hollywood Hardware is definitely an asset to my neighborhood and I always go to them first whenever I need a little something for a home project. I have had keys made, gotten my lawnmower blades sharpened, found many a wonderful tool at good prices, and bought gift items, housewares, and even jewelry there.
