My daughter has been taking lessons from Kevin for about two years and we think he is great. My daughter has a spunky personality and would be bored to tears during a «typical piano lesson.» Kevin is fun, has funny, age appropriate jokes and keeps kids engaged. He also keeps kids accountable for their practice time(or lack thereof). He is respectful of your time and expects it to be reciprocated. He’s a true professional and my daughter is playing beautifully.

My son has been taking piano lessons from Kevin for the last 2.5 years and my daughter for the last year. We have been so pleased with Kevin’s approach to teaching and interacting with the kids. My son is 7 and my daughter is 5. They have benefited from Kevin’s fun but firm demeanor. They began playing music from the very beginning, building confidence and creating a love for playing. Then once the foundation is set, the theory begins. They soak it up and really enjoy playing for an audience and for themselves. Kevin has a gift for teaching the piano but it also carries over to instilling a good practice ethic, responsibility, and respect for teachers and parents. I can recommend Kevin without reservation for both younger and older students of the piano.

Take your preconceived notions about piano lessons, and set them aside. Read on if you are looking for something that will work for you or your kid. When I was a kid, I took piano from a nice lady. A sweet, boring lady in fact. It was all about endless scales, boring classical music, and painful practicing. I was the type of kid who couldn’t sit still for long and wanted to be outside doing something active. I ultimately quit piano after a short while. It’s one of my biggest regrets. I wish I had kept with it. Now I’m all grown up and have a son who showed interest in piano. He’s just like me — he’d rather be outside on a skateboard, a dirt bike, or playing baseball than doing anything else. So, of course I figured he would suffer the same fate I did with regard to the piano. Thanks to Kevin Meyer, my kid is still at it. I researched piano methods and teachers, including talking to other parents in my neighborhood. I decided on the Simply Music method, since kids enjoy it — they are playing fun songs right from the beginning. Teachers were a tough choice… Do I go with one close to home when they get somewhat mixed reviews, or do we go across town to Kevin, who is universally loved by Unilocalers and personal friends alike?(My friend’s daughter«adores him».) We, of course, chose Kevin. Kevin is not the pale, skinny, milktoasty, bespectacled piano teacher I expected. He’s a younger athletic guy who looks like he should be holding a piano up over his head more than he looks like he should be sitting down playing one. But, immediately it becomes evident that he is a talented, soft-spoken guy with a knack for teaching. My son can relate to him, and he motivates him to do amazing things. If you are looking for a piano-learning experience that is fun and interesting, with a musician who is also a skilled instructor, Kevin is your guy.

About three years ago my news years resolution was to take piano lessons. I had hemmed and hawed over the thought for years. One of my main deterrents to taking piano lessons stemmed from hearing all of the complaints from others who had taken lessons, such as; endless drills of scales and chords, reading music only, and never really playing songs. Most said they just got bored, frustrated and quit. I was bound and determined to find a less«traditional» method of learning to play the piano. And that is when I was graced with Kevin and the Simply Music method. From my first lesson i was hooked! No boring drills or reading music… I actually learned how to play a song! If you are looking for an innovative, creative and down right fun way to learn the piano, Kevin is your teacher. In my years of schooling I’ve experienced many people who taught… but only a few that were naturally gifted teachers, who loved and lived what they taught. Kevin is one of those few teachers. Not only is he great with the adults, but he truly shines when he is teaching children. Its three years later, I’m at beginning level of reading music, and people who hear me play think I have been playing all my life! This method works! You wont be disappointed. =)
