Make sure to call ahead about potential fees associated with your paperwork. I walked in and was surprised to find no line however it all made sense after I was charged a $ 15 fee for dropping off forms in person whereas it would have cost just the price of a postage stamp if I had mailed it in instead. I gave them two stars for the BS fees (and also because they said it will take a week to stamp a piece of paper) but the guy who helped me out was very nice and provided good customer service.

Very helpful staff and they are very professional. Even though they get rude folks everyday, I am always pleased with my service. One guy even suggested I clean up my application. I like that they are comfortable at work as well. I love it when regular clothes are worn and suits are not mandatory. These folks know their stuff as well and even though they are state workers they portray a love for what they do. Parking is the only drawback but hey, it’s downtown in the Capital.

Came here during lunch time on a weekday to get some documents apostilled. It was easy to find, and I was in and out of there fairly quickly. The people were pretty helpful, even the security guard in the main lobby. Parking was difficult to find though, well, metered parking anyway. Lots of overpriced parking lots if you have the cash.

Training happens everyday so several people know different tasks.

It’s embarrassing that this is a government agency and operated so poorly. After drafting my articles of incorporation for a non-​profit, I was advised that it was best to «walk it in». I drive downtown, wait in line, provide my $ 30 application check & $ 15 check for over the counter processing along with my articles of incorporation.
The lady behind the counter advises me that I need to fill out a form to accompany my articles of incorporation. I do, she looks it over, says it looks good, stamps it and I’m on my way.
4 weeks later I have my paperwork returned because I filed two conflicting documents. What? Oh ya, remember that form the lady at the counter said I had to fill out? Yep, I didn’t, that form was ONLY if you DID NOT have a prepared articles for submission. They kicked back my application, cashed my $ 15 check, then set me a month behind on incorporating and all for what?
Very frustrating. Bad advice from your own employees and you CHARGED me to receive it, waste my time, money, and patience. I’ll be mailing it in now as I will never deal with your inept staff face to face again.
California — you’re bankrupt, I know why… POOR business practices. If you were an employee of mine, Secretary of State office, you’d be fired.

Most of the SOS employees are all complacent, uncooperative, sloppy, rude and obnoxious… except the friendly ladies on the notary section. I always have a great experience once I make it to this office but the walk to the notary section is horrible and depressing. Too bad the rest of this place doesn’t take some hints from the notary section!

As a court runner/​process server… these employees are so much nicer and much more tolerant than 1 or two other places I have to hit up almost daily. So far I have not had 1 Neg. experience here or encountered one rude employee.

Staff, starting from the Security at the desk downstairs to every other employee I came across SUCK.
Misinformed, time wasting make me run around and waste days with the wrong paperwork, and NO ONE really knew what I was talking about or which room to get it from or which room to turn it into, VERY frustrating.
Let alone asking for a number to reach me so as to tell me when it’d be ready yet they never called. I waited two more days then went in and they had no record of me inquiring about said form/​status yet they charged me for it…
After 15 – 20 minutres of me complaining about their missteps they pulled it up anyways and printed it while giving me dirty looks and being plain ol bitchy.
