Standard Parking

Had a terrible experience with the valet parking attendant named Freddy at Mercy Medical Group on Q street downtown. First let me start by saying I understand the high traffic volume of patients at this facility, so it’s only fair and understandable that it could possibly take up too 10 – 15 minutes to get our vehicle. In our situation this wasn’t the case a fifteen minute wait turned into a twenty to thirty minute wait.
Once my fathers appointment was done with the doctor my mother and him proceeded to head down to the valet department. When they got there my mother handed the ticket and $ 2 tip to an attendant named, Freddy. Fifteen minutes had passed and my mother had asked him have you found the car yet? Freddy said, «what kind of car do you have?,» my mother asked, «you have my ticket I thought you know.» Freddy took the ticket off the podium stand and said, «yes, but if you didn’t tell me what car you have.» Lets pause for a second, FREDDY STILL HAS THE TICKET? Wasn’t that supposed to be given to the runner who is going to get the car? Or isn’t the person getting the car have what type of vehicle it is written on the stub? Why don’t you call off the number and ask if it has been taken care of? By the way fifteen minutes have elapsed. At this time Freddy is still just sitting there waiting doing anything. At least check up on the car, ask another attendant what’s the status of the vehicle. Do what you could because aren’t these attendants trained by the company on customer service?
Another fifteen minutes go by and the car still has not arrived. FYI, my mother is sightly hard of hearing, and my father just recently got discharged from the hospital because of heart surgery. So waiting almost twenty to thirty minutes is a long time, come on IT’S VALET! The definition of valet: a person who parks cars for guests at a hotel, restaurant, hospital in a quick and timely manner. There is nothing timely about this valet structure.
By now it has been twenty to thirty minutes or so, and my mother wants to just get the car herself. Upon doing so the attendant that was walking with her said, «they just said your car is up front.» Now, my mother is really upset, patients after her received their cars, thirty minutes has passed by, and she feels pushed aside that other people can just go before her and she could receive her car last. She begins to tell Freddy that, «if he would of asked her what kind of vehicle she had in the beginning this wouldn’t have happened and so forth.» AND FREDDY ALREADY GOT A TIP, by the way! «A TRAINED EMPLOYEE» from standard parking, should have never fought back and argued. They train you for petes sake on:
— Staff attendance at hospital orientation programs
— Automated workforce management
— Professional attire
— Facility-​specific customer service training
As a person that has been in the customer service industry before I have learned a few tips to slowly start diffusing a situation with a customer. He should of just said, «let me go back there and check and I’m sorry it’s taking so long.» Little things go a long way. In all honesty that employee was terribly wrong and handled the problem with poor judgment.
While the employee was arguing with my mother the Head Senior Facility Manager named Ricardo arrived after the twenty to thirty minutes wait. He tried to diffuse the problem apologizing. She took the apology and went on to ask the female security person if there was a contact card to complain about this valet confrontation, she gave her one.
I have contacted both the Facility Manager and Senior Manager. Both have said my mother was irate and that the employee was just explaining to her the process. Seriously, we have never had a situation like this happen before out of the many years we’ve been going there, and hope to not ever have to deal with this again. My mother is a very patience woman, non-​confrontational, quite, humble, and it takes A LOT to get her upset. My mother feels deeply apologetic about the flare up, but who wouldn’t be upset. If patients handed in their tickets after I already gave mine, and they received their cars before me, you’re darn right I’ll be confrontational. When you a pay for a valet service your supposed to get quick and fast, nothing more of five minutes.
I’m a very downtown kind of gal and I valet a lot. It never takes more than five minutes to get my car, and there’s only 1 – 2 attendants. Also, it’s the busy nights like dinners, and mixers kind of social events.
This hospital valet location is really terrible, too much traffic. Free for disabled, but not fast enough.
If there was a tip I could tell to this company. I would give patients that arrive with walkers, canes, and wheelchairs should have some sort of indication on their ticket too let the attendant know that this needs to be a quick and fast process. They really need to practice more of speed and efficiency as well. Try some team building exercis

This is a nice parking ramp. It’s located just across the street from the Federal Courthouse (at least, once Unilocal corrects the address, it will be). Parking is reasonableish. If you were journeying to Federal District Court for the Eastern District of California to right the wrongs done to your noble client, this would be a good place to park. Plus, pretty easy on/​off to I-​5.
Also, somewhere in the nooks and crannies of the parking ramp, there exists, in whole or in many small parts, a $ 600 pair of eyeglasses. I cannot fathom how it came to pass, but as I stood outside my car, taking off my suitcoat, pulling off my tie, and preparing for a nice trip back to SF, I took my glasses off and put on my sunglasses. Because all the hip youngsters nowadays have prescription sunglasses. Next, I THOUGHT, I put my glasses in my briefcase. Apparently not. I have no earthly idea how it happened, but my glasses did not make it back in the car, and apparently did so in a way that I did not notice. They have now vanished.
I spent the rest of the day sitting in my office, reading email and drafting letters, wearing sunglasses. The man wearing sunglasses in an office is the subject of much hilarity, I can assure you. Either that or I work with jerks. Probably both. I can also safely assure you that attempting to work while wearing glasses from two prescriptions ago is an excellent recipe for a splitting headache.
The people at the parking garage very nicely sent security people out to look around for my glasses. They found nothing. But were very nice about it.
