History

Established in 2003.

Studio 18 now teaches ballroom dancing. However, they first began only as a tap school. Over 4 years they added jazz, hip hop, and ballet. Studio 18 focused on teaching children how to dance up until 2008. It was at this time when adult ballroom was introduced. They began teaching dances like the West Coast Swing, Salsa, Tango, Waltz, and more.

James was born and raised in Sacramento and El Dorado Hills. Dancing was always a form of expression and an outlet for him. His skills have landed him work with the Crocker Art Museum, Good Day Sacramento, Channel 10, Sacramento Kings, Living Social, Rainbow Rewards, Match​.com, Radisson Hotel, Thunder Valley, and even hosted one of Yelp’s Elite dinners, and more.

I went looking for a local dance studio where I could learn and get rid of my two left feet so I emailed dance 18 and asked for help. So I reluctantly went there signed up for classes and what a pleasant surprise to find a wounderful instructor Krysta she made me feel relaxed and is always complementary even thou I forget to rock step so if you at a new to dance and are looking for a place to succeed here u go.

It’s so hard to write a review for «something» that has given me SOO much JOY! I was a little intimidated on even stepping in the door. I’ve never danced before, but as soon as I did, I was put at ease by James. I told him I was a pre-​novice to dancing, and we set up a free consultation to see where I’m at, and where I want to go. I was impressed with how patient and positive he was. I decided to sign up, normal membership is 2 group classes a week, and one private lesson a month. Soon after I started, I became hooked, HARD. So I pay for an additional private lesson with Krysta (hope I spelled it right :).)
After a few months in the studio, I was ready to go on one of their field trips to a local salsa club, and my life has forever been changed for the better. Every single time I go to a group class, a private class, or one of their events that they hold, I have an absolute blast. I always leave smiling. I’ve met a number of new friends from salsa, and get a little workout while I’m at it. There really is something for everyone here. Salsa and other latin dances like Bachata or cha-​cha. Ballroom, swing, and club dancing. Anyone can dance, young, old, disabled. It’s awesome.
I have nothing but very positive things to say about Studio 18 and their Staff. Thank you for sharing the gift of dance with me. I wish they had more stars to give them.

James helped my fiancée and I learn how to tango for our first dance at our wedding. He really is a great teacher; he never gets frustrated with you which is absolutely necessary because you likely WILL get frustrated with yourself or your partner (at least you will if you are a perfectionists like we are). 10 lessons put us in great shape for our first dance. We received dozens of compliments on how great it looked and watching the video, I have to agree. It’s definitely not Dancing With the Stars quality but for 10 lessons it was more than I was expecting. James was also exceedingly flexible with his schedule; my fiancée and I were in a long distance relationship and on top of that I had weird work hours, but James absolutely went the extra mile to make it work for us! I can’t thank him enough!

So far I’ve only attended a few practices here for the Kings Flash Mob practice and Latin Mixer but have already decided when our schedules open up my boyfriend and I are going to sign up for Salsa lessons.
The owner/​dance teacher James is really friendly and patient. He does a good job of breaking down counts and steps at an easy to remember pace then brings it all together into a great routine. He seems attentive and knows how to help students with areas they might be struggling with.
I haven’t been salsa dancing in years and recently attended the Dance Studio’s Latin Mixer. I had the opportunity to dance with a couple gentlemen including James and another dance teacher. I found it easy to recall the basic steps and learn some new moves and hammerlocks within a matter of minutes. At some point there was a Salsa line where James conducted a short lesson. I was surprised to see my boyfriend participate and he looked great dancing. If we can do it, you can do it. I recommend lessons at Dance Studio 18 and look forward to signing up soon.

James is awesome too, and he’s making us look even awesomer.
Really a great teacher, and he is ready to move at our pace (which is fast… ’cause you know… we’re awesome).
We are truly getting our monies worth for these private lessons, and I can’t wait for his group classes to start up again. Dance lessons may certainly be something Amazing and I continue after the wedding.
James is our guy for that. A good dancer is easy to come by, a good dance teacher is a little tougher, but we found one.
