Taste of Angkor

Came here for lunch but ended up eating dinner because the food took so long. We also huddled around our hot plates for warmth because it was freezing in there with the A/​C on (it’s winter! wth). They had a large catering order which caused the delay. They are definitely customer focused as they apologized and comped one of our food items. Good business practice!
We had: sach koh jong (marinated beef skewers; slahb monn baog (stuffed wings); ka thiew cha (vermicelli stir fry noodles).
Overall the food was good but not phenomenal… I’d recommend you to try it if you are in the area. Cambodian restaurants are rare. It is located next to SF Supermarket (not as popular as 99 Ranch which is only a mile away).

I have been here a handful of times now and the food and service is consistently great. Being from the Central Valley where there is no shortage of Cambodian food (just go to your mom’s kitchen and/​or your local temple during celebrations), I have been waiting for a legit restaurant to open here because no one has the time to drive an hour to the valley or the bay when you start craving food from your family’s motherland. I was overjoyed when I learned about this place. I appreciate that their menu cover educates the customer about one of the essential and unique pastes in Cambodian cooking: kroeung and that their menu offers dishes that you cannot find at other restaurants. For example, I know that everyone is hyped up about the kapoon or the ka thiew here, but try the bahn zuong (my family didn’t have a name for it, I guess this is what others call it?) and also the nom bahn chok. They also just started offering vegetarian options for some of their dishes!
Their prahok kties, kroeung dishes (soup and stir fry), bok la hong and beef sticks are all on point and what I’d recommend for folks who are beginners and looking to enjoy dishes you’d find on any Cambodian dinner table.
Note that the music can be super loud sometimes which is distracting.

First time here and everything we order was delicious. Definitely will be back when I’m in town. Came with a friend and he been there before and he love everything on the menu. I wanted to try everything so we ordered a few dishes to eat with rice. Everything was so good. Definitely will be back to try the noodles. Heard it’s really good. Service was great and the place looked nice n clean.

We had a pretty big group (about 10 of us) for dinner on Friday night and it was a tight fit at our booth, but the waitress did offer to put chairs on either end for more elbow room so that helped a bit.
We had beef sticks and meatballs as appetizers which were both really delicious! For my entrée,
I ordered the kasoy (3 others were trying their kapoon) so I figured I would try theirs. I also ordered the papaya salad-​medium spicy. The kasoy was okay, but it was pretty salty so it was hard to drink the broth or eat any of the meat. I did taste my friends kapoon broth, and that was pretty good. Light and flavorful. The papaya salad was pretty good, medium-​which I always ask for– didn’t have as much of a kick as I’m used to so if you like it with a kick, I’d go for spicy. The waitress also forgot to put in one of the kapoon orders so my friend didn’t get hers till we were almost done with ours.
The food itself is pretty good and the service was friendly so I’d go back but I’m not sure anything quite wowed me.

I was in the mood for something spicy and wanted to give this place a try. My boyfriend and I ordered the papaya salad with 5 peppers and the kasoy.
Papaya salad — the papaya salad was delicious. It was spicy, tangy, and sweet. However, –1 star for the presentation. The cabbage was unevenly cut and the noodles was soaked in the sauce and not on the side. ⁴⁄₅
Kasoy — The kasoy tasted very authentic and homemade. Unfortunately, it also looked like it. We asked for extra chicken which was $ 1.50. The chicken looked like it was shredded and had little pieces instead of a slice of chicken that I am used to at other restaurants. The fats were also still stuck to the pieces of chicken. The broth was at most luke warm and not hot. ³⁄₅
Service — The service was neither good or bad. The server sat us right away (empty restaurant) and took our order. However, he brought us our tab but did not bother to pick up the tab with our credit card. When my boyfriend finally went up the counter, he did not bother to say anything to him. 1.5÷5
Overall, we would not come back.

I love this place! Everything is on point, especially their noodle soups. Can’t go wrong with any of them. I’ve tried their wings, papaya salad, and sausage appetizers but my taste buds always go to their kasoy since it’s one of the best in town. I like to add quail eggs to mine because there’s already a good amount of meat. I like how they give you the option of adding more toppings for only $ 1.50. I need to give their kapoon a try since their pictures always looks good.
I like how the servers come around with water every so often & make sure you’ve got everything you need. They’ve been very consistent with their dishes and I really hope they do well cause they put a lot of love in their food and it shows!

I’ve been to Taste of Angkor twice now and the food is yummy! I’ve tried the kapoon, chicken skewers, wings and beef stew. I like all of the dishes I’ve tried so far here. The wings are crispy, the chicken skewers and wings are flavorful! The kapoon and stews are perfect for this cold weather. They also have a secret menu and I can’t wait to return and try the rest of the items on their menu.

Taste of Angkor is sooo delish!
The quality of their food is consistently flavorful and amazing which is surprisingly hard to find.
This is my go to place for a couple of dishes:
Kapoon: This is probably the best that I have ever had! I know that everyone has different preferences but I enjoy my kapoon with more coconut milk and on the thicker side. The portion sizes are shareable and they do not skimp on chicken.
somlar machu: This is a sour beef based soup. I ordered the lunch special and to my surprise it came out in a huge bowl! Once again definitely shareable. I really enjoyed the copious amount of beef that was in the bowl and it tasted soooo good over rice. MUST TRY!
Raw beef Laap: Really good flavor but they are inconsistent with their portion size. I appreciate the side of cucumber and cabbage that comes with this dish. It’s quite refreshing.
HH Faves:
Cream cheese wontons: The wontons are liberally stuffed with cream cheese and crab. I like dat.
Chicken Wings: Waaaaay better than KFC. The batter is seasoned, cooked to perfection very moist, huge pieces of wings and the crisp is pleasurably satisfying.
Why a 4 star? Over all everything tastes great but customer service needs a little work and portions can be very inconsistent. Drinking water has an awful taste, yuck! Please fix your water filter or something!

The kapoon here is delicious. It’s nicely flavored where it’s not too bland or too salty but just right. Although the soup is slightly greasy but it’s an easy fix cause you just have to scoop out the red grease. The only thing that I didn’t like about the kapoon was that the chicken in the soup was like nonexistent because it was like chicken scrap. The pieces of chicken in the soup were extremely small. On top of that, the veggie plate that they provided was also small in portion. Hardly any bean sprouts and the leaves. These were just some small things that I disliked but other than this, the soup here is good! I would come back here for their kapoon still since it’s convenient & good.

I was patient with my review since I knew there were other dishes I needed to try first. The first time, I ordered kasoy and sadly, was not impressed. It was too sweet for my taste buds. My sister had their kapoon and phở and said they were really good, so those were on my list to try. After some months, I tried both kapoon and phở and enjoyed them. All of my orders have always been to for pick up, so this is strictly for the food and customer service over the phone/​pick up. Other favorites are the fried chicken wings, beef sticks, and papaya salad. Pleasant people working there; definitely going to become a regular.

I have previously attempted to eat here two other times when the restaurant newly opened. The first time it was closed, so we came back the very next day. First, it took awhile for our order to be placed. After placing our order, we were sitting for awhile before inquiring about our food. It turns out our order was not put in due to a «computer error». We were on a time limit, so we cancelled our order and left.
Months later and I finally came back. We ordered the cream cheese wontons off the happy hour menu. We also had the raw beef larb and spicy pork sausage. Yes, I know we stuck with the familiar. I need to try the authentic Cambodian dishes next time. The cream cheese wontons are cream cheese wontons, but with added crunch with the water chestnuts. I was a little wary about ordering larb raw from here, because I didn’t want to end up getting stomach problems. That wasn’t an issue though. I enjoyed the dish with the cucumbers and lettuce. The only thing is that my friend said the meat should have been more minced. I love sausages and the one here was just ok to me. It was on the drier side. Service was great this time around. The two young men provided timely service and were friendly.

— Fried Calamari: crispy calamari rings. Tasty but a little chewy. ³⁄₅
— Beef Laab: slices of beef with tripe, lime juice, mint, cilantro, and green onions with a side of cabbage and cucumbers. Spicy and flavorful. 3.5÷5
— Fried Rice: rice with Chinese sausages, shrimp, eggs, carrots, peas, and green onions. Huge portion, tasty fried rice. ⁴⁄₅
— Egg Rolls: 6 ground chicken eggrolls with noodles, cabbage, onions, and carrots and deep fried. ⁴⁄₅
— Stuffed Wings: 2 wings stuffed with ground chicken, noodles, cabbage, and carrots. Very good. ⁴⁄₅
— Kroeung Soup: sliced beef and tripe with bell peppers and kaffir leaves in broth. ³⁄₅
— Spicy Beef Sausage: cured, minced beef mixed in kroeung. ³⁄₅
SERVICE

FINAL THOUGHTS
Good, authentic Cambodian food. I still think this is one of my favorite places for Kapoon.

This place is out of the way, in a crappy part of town, and I probably wouldn’t ever go here alone. But the inside is nice.
There was hardly anyone inside, maybe it’s because the location is so out of the way. The servers were nice enough. It’s more of a casual setting, kind of like Laos Kitchen. The food is better, though.
The Kapoon was soooo good, more coconutty and sweet than spicy, which is nice. The small is actually a pretty good size to share with another person if you order something else.
The papaya salad and laab were better than other similar-​styled restaurants. Also the sizes were larger, which I hope doesn’t change as this place gets more popular.
I ordered the dry noodle (with broth on the side) for myself. It could’ve done better with less noodle, more meat and more broth.
All in all, a great place to go if you’re in the area. And I’m never in the area.

I remember my friend saying that she came to eat here because it was her friends grand opening. When she told me they sold Lao food here too I said no thank you. I eat enough of it at home and my family already owns a restaurant. So I was good. My other friend said that their kaopoon was really good and today she was having a craving, so now we’re here. Looks like a regular restaurant nothing too fancy. Plants everywhere. Two flat screens on the wall. And booth seats all around the restaurant.
When we got the menu: to the right you’ll see Cambodian food and on the left they offer salads, soup like, Kaopoon they put Lao food next to it and kaosoy but next to it they put mien food next to it. I know a lot of mien people make it but I’m pretty sure it’s Lao food. Why? Because kao and soy are both Lao words. I asked my friend what kao means in mien and he says he doesn’t know. Kao means rice in Lao. Hence the rice noodle people use in kao soy and kao poon.
Anyway. What we ordered: kaopoon, kaosoy. I was like why are we at a Cambodian restaurant and we didn’t order a Cambodian dish. So we ordered the number 17 the mee kha thang.
What it tasted like: kaopoon and the kaosoy was actually really flavorful. I enjoyed it. The mee kha thang actually was good. She called it chow fun when she dropped it off but chow fun isn’t that wet. It actually reminded me of Ladnah (Thai dish) actually I think it is lad nah, they just called it something else. it was good though. Flavor was good.
Took forever to get our food though, he knew it took a while so he subtracted our drinks from our tab. Which was really nice of him.
Try it out people it’s something to try. But since I eat these kinds of food I probably won’t be back often.

I was suuuupa excited to try this place cause I’ve been dying to try kapoon and kasoy ^_​_​^
Came on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm with my boyfriend and a few friends. We were seated quickly and it wasnt toooo packed and our waitress was really sweet.
The menu had a variety of appetizers, soups, meat dishes, and traditional Cambodian food.
*my only issue was our appetizers took about 20 minutes to come out. With the amount of tables being about 5 groups in the restaurant being occupied, I was concerned that they forgot our food or something since it took a while. But we tried our best to be patient.
We ordered the sausages and fried chicken for our appetizers. The chicken wings were sooooooo bomb! Super crispy and juicy on the inside. Came with 6 wings, a shredded coleslaw salad, and their yummy dipping sauce. Sort of tasted like a sweet fish sauce mixture to me lol. The sausages came out with the same sides and were deep fried so it had this thin and chewy texture to it.
My friend ordered the Cambodian phở which came with a surplus of noodles but his only complaint was lack of flavor. Even hoisin sauce, Sriracha, and fish sauce didn’t help much.
My other friend got kasoy and loooooved it. Flavorful broth and thick chow fun noodles.
My boyfriend got the curry and it was. Different. Definitely had a coconut flavoring to it and was very rich and thick. Came with a lot of beef in the bowl and a side of two baguettes.
I ordered the kapoon and I really liked my dish. It looked like a ramen dish and the broth was very rich and flavorful with a coconut taste too. They also ask if you want bamboo added to it :)
Luckily we all got to try different dishes. I will definitely be back to get my kasoy and chicken wing fix next time!

Funny how I ended up here. It was a total accident when I was Unilocaling and I finally settled on a place to try (not this one, but one that is closer to the state fair) But I decided to continue looking at pictures and other food places. When my friend was like what is the address to the place and I just gave her this one without thinking and this was how we ended up here!
Well this was a very pleasant surprise! As we were looking at the menu, there were a few things I wanted to try but that day, I was craving Cambodian dry noodle/​dry phở! The original place I wanted to try actually had it, and i thought that it wouldn’t hurt to ask. I showed the waiter the picture and asked if this was part of the menu and he said that they can make it and is part of the secret menu! And that got me very excited!
When it came, it was super delicious! I love the meatballs that came with it. The sauce, noodle, and the side of soup was the perfect combo to a great meal!
According to the bill the correct name to this dish is called Ka Thiew Goag #20?

My friend brought me here for the first time and I ordered their famous Kapoon. It was my first time trying this noodle dish and I am impressed at how flavorful the curry based broth is! I ordered a small and it was the perfect amount of noodles to fill me up. The noodles came with ample amount of tender chicken meat, along with bamboo & a few quail eggs. The curry broth was not too spicy, but just perfect to my liking! The service was fantastic, the waiters came around often to replenish our drinks and made sure we didn’t need anything else. The price was definitely reasonable and inexpensive for a decent lunch meal.
I can’t wait to come back here for more Kapoon! But I’ll definitely have to try out other items they have to offer. Come here and you’ll definitely leave here with a happy belly. :)

Food was good, too bad service was bad. Didn’t see my server until it was time to get the check. It was too bad too, as I wanted more napkins and more limes.
Place wasn’t very busy as there were only 3 tables total. I love Cambodian food with a passion and this place was hitting the spot on almost every dish I had.
If ever in town will go back and try other items hopefully will have a different server.

Wow. I cannot believe how authentic the dishes here taste! I would have to say that this restaurant comes pretty close to how my momma makes traditional food at home.
The restaurant has ample seating, all booths. The servers were fast, efficient and friendly.
My friends and I ordered raw beef larb, papaya salad, kasoy and kapoon. Don’t let the «raw» scare you away, it is definitely worth a try! The larb was moist and the lime and seasoning was on point; the onion slices were a good texture. It comes with some lettuce on the side and you can eat it like a lettuce wrap. The papaya salad was tangy, sweet and salty — always a mouth watering combo. It comes with vermicelli noodles and cabbage on the side; we added two peppers and it was just the right amount of spiciness. The kasoy tasted pretty good, I ordered a small and that was plenty. My friend had the kapoon and I tired the broth, it was on the sweeter side (I usually like mine less sweet and more spicy).
I would highly recommend trying something new here. I will most definitely be back to try their stuffed chicken wings!

My boyfriend and I have been meaning to try this restaurant because he knows the owners and the pictures all look very tasty. We have never eaten at a Cambodian restaurant, and neither have my sister and her husband, so we all decided to give it a try (we heard it’s like a combination of thai and vietnamese food, and we like those, so why not).
It’s located in a strip mall so there’s plenty of parking. The restaurant is clean and has several booth/​bench seats. We ordered several dishes to share.
Cream cheese wontons (6 per order): perfectly friend and not greasy. Be careful when you eat it because the filling gets really hot and you can burn yourself like we all did. I think there’s finely chopped celery in it giving it a nice crunch. Comes with a slightly spicy dipping sauce.
Egg rolls (6 per order): also fried to a golden brown. I expected it to taste like vietnamese egg rolls, but the spices were slightly different. It came with the same dipping sauce.
Beef sticks (6 per order): very flavorful marinade and good char taste. Served with spicy pickled vegetables. This was my boyfriend and brother in law’s favorite dish.
Beef and shrimp chow fun: thick noodles with beef, shrimp, Chinese broccoli, a savory gravy, and topped with an egg prepared your way — we went with over medium. This was very tasty and I was surprised with how well the runny egg yolk brought everything together. I would order this again.
Kasoy: it looks intimidating because it is red, but it’s so good! The broth is not spicy like I thought, it’s actually just tomato– flavored! Who knew haha. There’s delicious shrimp and beef balls with the thick chow fun noodles. Cilantro and green onion brighten the broth. It comes with a plate of bean sprouts, lime wedges, and mint (similar to what you get at phở places). I am a fan and would order again.
Overall the experience and food exceeded my expectations. Everyone enjoyed the meal and I’m glad we tried something new. The portions were very generous for the price as well. The waiters and staff were all friendly and the restaurant is clean. There are several televisions playing shows and the news. The restaurant also has good ventilation/​air conditioning.
I would say the flavors were more of a combination of vietnamese and chinese food. Maybe next time I will try a dish that is a little more ‘adventurous.’
