History

Established in 1973.

This building was origionally home to Doc’s Place from 1931 – 1969. He was known as «The Root Beer King». It was one of the first walk-up restaurants in Sacramento. In 1933 after prohibition the half round beer garden was built. That is where the kitchen is now. The Govenor of California Sonny Jim Rolles was said to have his first post prohibition beer here. At the time when Folsom Blvd. was highway 50 as well as a connector for other highways, Doc’s Place was said to have sold 13 kegs of beer in one day. That’s 30 Gallon kegs. We promise to do our part in carrying on this great beer drinking legacy.

My goal is to create a neighborhood pub, but not in that cliché sort of way. Really just a place that’s your home away from home. I am a culinary graduate, but don’t be afraid. I believe good food doesn’t have to be complicated or fussy. Food is definitly a passion, but I am equally interested in beer and wine. Right now it’s the Belgian and German beers. I’ve owned The Shack, as I like to call it now, for almost 4 years. It’s a funky little place, and I hope it always defys explaination. I’m sure there’s a lot more to come in the future and I hope you will be here to share it with us.
