Unleashed by Petco

Awesome little store. I have two dogs and my baby Indiana has training classes with Madison (6 week long course) they were a VERY reasonable price especially because Indiana was a little terror before classes but Madison is very informative and makes my baby mind her manners. They have everything you need here and the staff is always super friendly and helpful!

Situated next to the Whole Foods, Unleashed markets heavily to the Whole Foods crowd with mainly organic and high end pet foods, treats, and toys. The store is significantly smaller than a regular Petco but does have the staples that you would find in any pet store– dog and cat food, toys, treats, collars and clothing, niche pet foods, and homemade dog treats. They do offer some of the higher end cat and dog foods that are featured at Unleashed at the regular Petco but there is definitely a wider selection here.
We wandered in to kill time and ended up spending $ 50 on fresh and dried catnip along with dog and cat toothpaste, all of which were organic. If you have a disposable income and love your pets, this is a place to spoil them but if you have to be a bit more discerning with your cash, I would comparison shop. The staff is very friendly and helpful– much more than the big box pet stores– but we rarely find ourselves in the Arden area and it is not enough of a draw for us to warrant a trip just for this store.

I haunt this place whenever I need something for my animals as it’s nearby and more of an enjoyable experience than going to a Pertsmart or Petco. It’s a smaller store so the staff notices their costumers and takes time to approach them to see if they need help finding anything. The store is very clean which is a welcome difference from other pet stores I’ve been in, with no piddle puddles, stains or gross aromas hanging about. They offer a wide variety of cat and dog foods, toys and beds among your other typical necessities. It’s a handy, nearby store with pleasant staff and items I need.

I took my Boxer in to be trained by Jasmine and the outcome was great. She was very kind and understanding of puppy issues and things to watch out for with him. He and I learned so much from being in the class. We go in often and the staff knows me and my dog and are kind and helpful.

When I first saw this place I wasn’t quite sure what to expect being as I had never seen an Unleashed Petco before. Until that point I had only seen the giant regular stores. I decided to check this place out because I needed a few essentials for my dogs. As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted and asked if I needed any help. I passed then proceeded to wander around the little store for a moment. Essentially what I found is that this is a micro Petco that just sold the essentials and a little extra. Because this place is so small I was able to quickly find what I wanted and I was back out in no time.

I was looking for a particular type of leash and unfortunately this petco was super-​duper small, and only had a few leashes in stock. BUT, the staff was extremely freindly and gave me the addresses of nearby petcos that were much larger than their store and had exactly what I needed. Five stars for customer service!

NEW Review: I’ve been meaning to write an updated review for a while. I wrote a review prematurely as it was my first experience at this store. However, I had gone in on several occasions and was not always completely satisfied.
There were several times in which I came into the store and I was not greeted or could not find help. One of my main issues was with a staff member [who may be a dog trainer]. I felt that often at times she came across as a know it all and abrasive. I get that she is full of knowledge but felt I was often being lectured. This wouldn’t bother me much, if she did not touch my dog without asking. I was inquiring about teeth cleaning. Instead of first asking me if it was okay to examine my dog’s teeth, she took the initiative and open my dog’s mouth and poked around. I didn’t appreciate that, considering that my dog is shy around strangers. I think it’s just common courtesy to ask permission before taking the liberty to poke and prod like that. It’s one thing to pet my dog but another thing to open the mouth, especially without asking.
PREVIOUS Review: I just got a new puppy about 3 weeks ago and went into Unleashed (since I shop at Whole Foods). I’ve gone to this location a few times and had nothing but a great experience. I’m a new pet owner and all the associates were friendly and knowledgeable. I’m always greeted when I first walk in. The associates were able to address a lot of questions and alternatives to fit my needs. They made me feel very comfortable since I was new to owning a dog. All of their recommendations has done nothing but benefited my little pup.
This location is small and some items are pricey. However, the atmosphere is welcoming, knowledgeable, and friendly. They even have this goodie bar of treats when you first walk in!
My pup and I will definitely come back!

We have been a few times now and doubt there will be a return trip. We purchase food for our cats at Petco and this store. from our understanding was basically a smaller outcrop of Petco. In buying food the first time we were overcharged. After getting and looking at our receipt, they rang up a more expensive priced bag of the food. We had to go back, which is a bit of a hike, and get a refund.
A few weeks ago we went into this shop to pick up a scratch pad for the cats, actually a replaceable core for it and the price seemed high but having not bought one in a while just figured they had gone up. A few days later we were in the Petco on Arden and saw the same pad we had paid 12.99 for, priced at 7.99. That’s a huge difference for same product, thus Unleashed, I won’t be back doing business with you again. You can fleece your Fair Oaks area customers, but for me, I’ll shop elsewhere.

Admittedly, I am a HUGE pet lover! My pup lives better than most children and is SUPER spoiled! I take her health and happiness very seriously… as seriously as a wake up call from her slobbery wet kisses and her cold wet nose! ;) Disclaimer complete. Begin review: Unleashed is awesome! I appreciate their wide variety of natural pet items. Their prices are about the same as Petco’s and there are some over lapping items at both stores. But I really appreciate the staffs willingness to listen to your glowing pet stories and somehow always manage to smile through your totally 100% unique, «my pet is soooo smart and awesome» stories. They make you and your pet feel important. Having said all that, I will say that I wish they had a delicate/​allergy-​ridden section of items just for sensitive dogs. My girl is allergic to corn, wheat and soy and has constant rashes. A little shelf of treats, shampoos and other items for just super sensitive items would make shopping SO much easier so I’m not spending an hour looking at all the labels. Otherwise, love the store (and the complex too which has all of my favs: Whole Foods, Starbucks and a Hallmark!).

My friend and I wanted to pick up some Kale chips from whole foods. When we pulled up, I noticed there was a UNLEASHED store next door. Since my doogy loves the «chocolate chip» cookies from the pet treat bar, i immediately went in and picked up a bag for him. At $ 3.99 a pound, the half a bag of «chocolate chip» cookies i bought were only $ 1.50! :)
Upon entering, i noticed this location is a tad smaller than the one in Elk Grove but it still contained all the goodies the other UNLEASHED locations have. In case you’re not familiar to the Unleashed stores, unleashed a branch of the Petco stores. They specialize in holistic and organic food for your pets. This location also had a refrigerator filled with the fresh dog food I have been looking all over for. SCORE!
On a Monday afternoon, we were the only customers in the store so the staff were very attentive and offered to help us find suitable products. It’s definitely worth it to check out unleashed, especially if you’re into organic and holistic food for you dog/​cat.
