I’ve found so many great places to eat with the help of Unilocal, but unfortunately Victor’s Tamales is not one of those places! To start, we walked into this place during lunchtime on a weekday, and it was completely empty. When I say completely empty, I mean no customers and no employees. Lol. After a few minutes, a woman came out and greeted us. I ordered the combination plate with two pork tamales(recommended by Unilocal), while my coworker ordered crispy carnitas tacos. He asked for no cheese on anything. After ordering at the counter, we were instructed to sit at a table. Usually restaurants either have you order at a counter and pay before the food comes out, or a waitress takes your order at the table and brings you a bill at the end of your meal. This place hasn’t made us it’s mind yet, so you order the counter, sit down and eat, then walk back to the counter to pay. My tamales were brought out, and had shredded cheese all over them. I’m not sure why. The rice was cooked perfectly, but didn’t have much flavor, and the beans were runny. The tamales were decent, but small, and again I’m not sure why they serve them in this manner. My coworker’s food came out, and to his horror there was cheese all over his food. They took it back to the kitchen and fixed this, but once his plate came back out, we realized his tacos weren’t crispy tacos, but served in the traditional manner on corn tortillas. He decided against sending his plate back a second time, and ate what they brought back out. Once we finished eating, we walked back to the counter and discovered they accept cash only. Luckily, we had cash on us. Overall, the food was not very good at all. The sign on the outside of the building says«Victor’s Tamales» but the signage inside says«Victoria’s.» I will give Unilocal the benefit of the doubt, and assume they recently changed ownership or something. I’m sad I didn’t get a chance to eat here when the food was good.

I love this place, it’s too bad I forget about it because it’s kinda hidden. Would be great if it was on a main street.

So finally i seen that they were open on one of my days off. I was actually unsure if they were open but i am glad i stopped. I took my food to go, service was good and quick. I posted a pic of the food on IG so more people can hear about this place. I had the tamale plate, I got 1 chicken and 1 cheese n jalapeño. Both were good but it would have been bomb if they put green chili over the chicken tamal, they gave me a salsa on the side but green salsa seemed so much tastier for a chicken tamal that has green sauce in it. The beans were a little bland for me and the rice tasted good. I will be back for more tamales and maybe i will try other item on the menu.

SCORE!!! Thanks fellow Unilocalers for this awesome find! We were searching for the best tamales for Christmas Eve, and we decided to try this place out. It’s a hole in the wall, but MAN, the tamales are screaming good! The tamales we tried were chicken and pork… both were flavorful and generously filled in the tamales. Quite good prices also, $ 15 for 12. So we are definitely getting a bunch for our party. They also hand-make their tortillas. The corn tortillas are soft and tasty and moist. Que bueno!

A tiny treasure hidden deep in Sacramento. It’s located in an odd area(businesses like auto upholstery) and a pretty delapidated area. Do not let that sway you from trying this place. If you love tamales, and want authentic, look no further.

Best hole in the wall tamales. Their burritos are awesome too, I would have taken a picture, but it looks like a lion just tore through a deer. $ 1.25 a tamale, and $ 4.59 for a huge burrito. I will update with a menu and pricing if they have one(Just asked, and they don’t). Don’t let the place fool you. It is awesome food for the price. Really I hope nobody reads this so it can stay a secret place. Overall the menu is pretty basic, but what else do you really need? I am the first to review, and I will be a regular. For those who know me, they know I know my food.
