Don’t try the cookies. You’ll get hooked. It’s bad. Coffee is the best available near the Capitol.

If all you want is a bakery and a cup of coffee, this place deserves 4 – 5 stars. However, I’m choosing to lowball this café because it has been severely downgrading it’s options. Once upon a time they were open till 3pm, now they’re only open till 2:00. For those of us who don’t get a chance to eat lunch till 2:00, that sucks. My next REALLYBIG pet peeve is they stopped offering salads! They used to offer the Magpie salads and now they tell me I have to walk an extra 5 city blocks to get one now… NOT!!! My lunch period is only 30 minutes. I really missed their quality salad options, and though my taste buds adore their oatmeal cookies, my brain fog does not. So based on what they«no longer» offer, convenience and selection, I give them only 2 stars.

I was in Sacramento for work and took a short walk from my hotel to pick up breakfast. Customer service is excellent and helpful. The drink creations are creative and special. Try a seasonal beverage without modifications.

Yellowbill, I had to update my review for you. I used to praise your name to anyone who would listen, and felt like I was the most lucky person to work near your establish. BUT, your food has gone down hill. Where are those prosciutto pinswheels? I really liked those and they disappeared long ago. Your prices went up. I used to be able to get a large Mocha for $ 4. Now its $ 5. Aren’t most prices in this economy going down, like you know, gas, and other expenses that should make your costs less not more? Your mocha was the pinnacle of my morning. I didn’t feel complete without one. It even led me to the Chocolate Fish beans you use, and I love them. But the newish girl you have doing coffee, she makes bad mochas. They are lukewarm, bitter, and taste slightly burnt. I can’t even tell if you are using the beans I still love. Since you are so convenient to work, you will work as a last minute, I forgot my coffee type of deal, but you need to worker harder and do better. I hope you take a once loyal customer’s criticism’s to heart. I want you to succeed. Alison is still a wonderful person, and I enjoy saying good morning to her and even the newish barista who doesn’t make mochas correctly, both are so very nice.

Walk in at 8 am to a nearly empty coffee shop. Now I know why. I order a nonfat, sugar free white mocha. They don’t have nonfat, they don’t have sugar free(there is stevia at the bar that I can use if I want) and they don’t do white mochas. Oooooooookay… So I order a large coffee. Which is pretty unimpressive. But the pastries! They look so amazing! And they are — because they come from Magpie. So I order the cinnamon pinwheel(that fancy non-donut donut). ANd like almost everything from Magpie, it rocks. Do you guys have wifi? Nope. They don’t have that either. How is it possible that a coffee shop in downtown near all of the state buildings does not have wifi? Next time I will save my frustration and just stop by Temple on my way over.

I have only had the pasteries here but they have all been really good. The all butter croissant is super yummy and flakey. The toaster pie is filled with apples and glazed with a cinnamon icing and is really good if you are craving something like apple pie. The carrot coconut pexan muffin is equally delicious. The only down size is the price but you do get what you pay for and you can tell they use quality ingredients.

SUPER expensive, but on ‘treat-yo-self’ day, you can’t beat this spot. They take pride in their latte creations and the baked goods come from Magpie… needless to say, AMAZING! I got a the ‘Magpie chai’ here before work the other day and I couldn’t help but smile ear-to-ear when I tasted it. YUUUUUM! Looking forward to trying more baked goodies here in the future.

What’s? Magpie has a spot in the DOE? Honey almond latte and magpie’s baked goods are off the handle. Breakfast sandwich is ok, but for 4 buck what do I expect. Hours are not good but these guys said magpie’s bakery Nido is down the block. Gotta get there. Oh yeah, really small. I guess with all their moving I’m still trying to get it figured out.

This place is a really cute little coffee shop/bakery. I only been here 2 times, each time I tried something off their specials menu. I have to say they have some good combinations, today I had the coco cappuccino. I had it made into more of a latte style and I loved it. The magpie bakery items are always yummy. The salads selections look good, however it didn’t look as fresh to me. However the coffee is amazing!

Don’t wait until it’s too late to say those three little words. Honey Almond Latte. Spending $ 4.10 for a 16oz cup of icy goodness never felt so right. This started out as a summer fling but I really hope it continues as a regular menu item!

Yellowbill is great because it’s so close to work. I like to come and stop buy for coffee every few days. They also have a good variety of baked goods and lunch items(different salads and soups). I love that they have honey almond lattes because it’s a good paleo/dairy free option. My favorite treat in terms of baked goods is probably the peanut butter sandwich cookie. It’s a vegan option and absolutely delicious. If you can eat gluten and enjoy scones, they have savory scones which are pretty good. Their workman’s lunch salad is also a good salad option for lunch. The only downside to Yellowbill is that they are kind of pricey.

This place is close to work and a local businesse so I’m all for supporting them. I really, really like this place. The people are always nice and friendly. The place itself isn’t big, but it has tables inside and out for your sitting pleasure. Good vibes all around. The reason why I gave it a four stars is because their coffee is a little on the weak side. I like a strong coffee, even if its mixed with steam milk. I just need to taste more of the bitterness and the coffee kick in my latte. Having said that their baked goodies are always delicious! My personal favorite is their pinwheel which is like a cinnabon but way, way better. The outside is crispy with a little burnt taste to it while the inside is soft and flakey with walnuts. It’s not too sweet just a perfect touch of sweetness. It’s the best cinnabon I ever had. That is my go to item. Their breakfast biscuit sandwich is terrific as well. Can’t go wrong with their baked goodies. So stop by buy a cookie and latte and support local businesses.

Had their coffee card and decided to stop by for a mid day pick me up. Of course before stopping by I checked out other Unilocalers to check for most recommended drinks, which was the iced Mocha. Parking aside(noon downtown, yikes!), the location is pretty sweet — right on the corner making it easy to walk to. Staff were super friendly and responsive, they greeted me upon walking in, which was nice considering there was no line or long waits. Now I’m normally a Starbucks kind of girl, even plain Mochas are overly syrupy. The one at Yellowbill, sourced through Chocolate Fish, was absolutely amazing. A perfect blend of chocolate and coffee flavor to make a non overpowering drink. Mine tasted a bit nutty as well, but I’m attributing that to the soy milk, one of their non dairy options for the health conscious. Needless to say I’ll be back again, at least until the coffee card runs out. Shout out to the other Unilocalers for a spot on recommendation!

The Almond Milk Latte here is on point. Make sure you ask for a double if you don’t want it too sweet!(And as I said in my Cap City review, it is so conveniently located across the street when you want to grab a juice or smoothie with your coffee!)

I had the pleasure of stopping by here today, and so happy I did. I’ve had this place«bookmarked» for a while now. I purchased their mini zucchini loafs and a rather good sized oatmeal cookie. Both were delicious, moist and flavorful. It’s a nice space, small & quant, with outdoor seating. It’s only open until 3pm in the afternoon. I look forward to returning, to purchase some«goodies» to enjoy in the morning. They also serve my favorite espresso drinks as well. The cookies, muffins and scones in the case all looked really yummy. With choices to enjoy for both breakfast and lunch. The employees were friendly and service was good. I knew even before stopping by here, I would love it, as their«parent company» Magpie down the street has always been a favorite of mine.

Shame on you Yellowbill. I hate to do this. However, as much as I love love love your Bahn Mi Salad and the chocolate avocado mouse I had to knock a few stars off of your crown. The Bahn Mi Salad I got yesterday was absolutely rotten, the cilantro was slimy and brown, and the pickled green beans were completely dessicated and didn’t even look like green beans anymore. I only found this out after I got back to my desk which is a good 30 minute walk away and couldn’t get back to you to exchange it. I expect more from a place that prides itself on the quality of it’s products. I know that the Bahn Mi Salad is pretty popular and so I am sure that there were a lot of salads that got packed yesterday that were not so great. EW

This is a great place for a quick lunch items to go. Just to give you a glimpse of their menu; they have baked goods(cookies, scones), espresso drinks, veggie & meat focaccia pizza slices, and salads and soups. My likes:(1) all their cookies-they are moist and not overly sweet;(2) meat focaccia pizza slice-sweet caramelized yellow and red peppers with savory crisp bacon pieces. But I could do without the sliced sunrise medley small potatoes that are on the pizza.(3) small outdoor patio dining area.(4) non pretentious, knowledgable, friendly baristas.(5) house made ice cream bars. I think these are seasonal.(6) biodegradable utensils and paper bags.

Coffee: I’m a big latte fan, and I regret to inform, but this place does not serve up the best lattes. To start, the beverage is never served hot enough and the milk isn’t steamed to the point it makes the beverage rich and creamy. I do notice they use some fancy machine, so that’s gotta count for something. They do a nice design on the top of the beverage. I understand the«brand» of the coffee they serve is well-liked by many, but if the latte isn’t made right, it honestly doesn’t matter. Pastries: There isn’t anything that stands out about the treats, but it is nice they offer vegetarian and vegan options. I’ve tried the peanut butter cookie and apple turnover. The price seems fair for the items, but after I consumed the treats I wasn’t really«wow-ed» enough to want purchase them again.
