Yoga Seed Collective

Today I had the pleasure of practicing yoga with a friend, who invited me to join her at The Yoga Seed Collective.
We attended their Monday Vinyasa class, at noon. Leah was our instructor, and led a challenging, and invigorating class that started with gentle stretching and ended with relaxing twists.
The space itself was warm, inviting and tranquil, perfect for a yoga practice. I like that the studio isn’t heated, as well. They have cubbies for your stuff, and large windows in the front, that let in the late morning sun. High exposed wood ceilings with light tubes & fans. A great playlist helped quite the mind, as you connect breath with movement. Blankets, yoga mats and props are available to use as well. I was impressed with my first class, and will return to practice again.

Came here after seeing the «free day of yoga» promo in SN&R as part of the Labor Day Weekend festivities. The ~100 minute class was packed and consisted of 15−20mins on their mission and 75+ mins of sweaty delicious yoga. Excellent instruction, beautiful live music and extremely friendly yogis– I can’t wait to come back!

My first yoga class ever and it was great! I knew a few yoga basics but it wouldn’t be hard if you knew nothing at all. Very supportive instructor and group. Also love that this place supports the community and encourages all people at any age and level to participate. Definitely going back soon!

So, here I sit — all sweaty and blissed out on a wonderful post yoga buzz in my hotel room — all thanks to the great Thursday night Queer Community Yoga vinyasa class with John.
I travel to Sacramento often for work, and usually end up doing #hotelyoga magic, but I really enjoy group practice and a studio. A good friend tipped me off to this class and I’m so glad I went.
The philosophy of the Collective is one of community service and they work to practice yoga both on and off the mat. So, that made me really happy. It is a nonprofit, donation-​based studio, so your money literally goes to help the local community and at the same time maintains accessibility to practice regardless of income. That is awesome.
Some details:
Location: total walking distance (less than a mile) from the Capitol and Midtown itself is absolutely charming. The space is expansive and also intimate. Really soothing, lovely plants, music good and not overwhelming.
Also, I love a 75 minute class. No rush, and plenty of time to get your asana on.
John’s class was wonderful. I’m not sure how long he’s been teaching, but his sequencing is elegant and smooth. Transitions made good sense and were comfortable. He also emphasized that we were to honor where our bodies were tonight – and offered all sorts of variations to ensure that everyone find their own practice and not feel pressured. I really appreciate that in a teacher.

Yoga Seed changes lives. Its one of the best kept secrets of Greater Sacramento. Thank you guys at the Yoga Seed for offering peace and piece of mind to those that are fortunate enough to discover the gem that you are. Keep up the good work.

Pest place on eArth! I found myself, I found a community of like minded people who just want to make a difference in this world! This is truly for mind body and soul! I feel lighter less weighted down by society all thanks to a tribe of people believing in each other! This is home!

I went to my first Yoga class at the Yoga Seed last night and can’t say enough positive things about the studio, the instructor Jessica and the class. Getting back in to something is always hard and Jessica was encouraging, informative and funny. I really identified with her words and was able to push myself further into several poses with her guidance. Not being a Yogi… yet, I love that the Yoga Seed gives you a little heart to place near your mat to indicate if you are open to assistance with specific poses and or getting into deeper stretches. If you are not feeling it that day you can simply put your heart red face up and if you are open to assistance that day leave the heart green face up.
My goal is to ‘Om’ out loud, I love the feeling of the vibration in the room when there is a collective om but am not comfortable enough to make any noises yet, for now I am comfortable gaining the benefits of the collective om while silently hoping no one notices I am the om thief. I have already signed up for several more classes.

Yoga Seed Collective is an excellent yoga studio to practice yoga at, no matter what your level is. They have a variety of yoga classes they offer at different levels. I’ve been to several different ones with differing teachers, and they were all really good. I’ve also been to a few of their workshops on various topics, and they were all good too. I also really like that they have all the props one could need to do a yoga class.
They do have a nice bathroom, that’s always clean and stocked. Along with a community bulletin board next to it.
I have to add that I really like their studio makeover. It utilizes the floor space much better and it is aesthetically more pleasing to the eyes.
FYI they are donation based, so when one is lower on funds, one can still do yoga here. As well, when one is flush with funds, they can pay regular to help balance out the other.

Love this studio! I got the new student 30 days for $ 30, and it has now been a week and I have gone several times. You can sign up ahead of time through their website, which is what I like to do. It seems to be mainly vinyasa and yin/​yang based, while I have previously preferred hatha yoga, but I have loved all the classes I have gone to so far.
Parking is all around the studio; they have a parking lot in the back but it is small and been full every time I go there. Plenty of street parking. The first time you go to the studio it is a little hard to find, the door is right next to Shine Café (it’s pretty perfect to go to a yoga class then grab a green smoothie from there!) and the studio is squeezed in between that and what I think is antiques store. Everyone is really nice, you get checked in then put your stuff in a cubby and find a spot on the floor. The night classes seem more full than the day classes. The teachers are great, I love the vinyasa classes taught by Jill and Heather! You’ll sweat, but it’s not so challenging that you can’t keep up. I’ve been practicing yoga for years but it has been awhile since I did vinyasa, and I had no problem. They have blocks, mats, etc for rentals. Clean bathroom.

I love Yoga Seed Collective! Their studio is super warm and welcoming. I just finished my thirty days for thirty dollars deal for new-​commers and I am definitely going to continue coming here.
One great thing about them is that they have a pay-​what-​you-​can drop in policy so no one is turned away from the studio for a lack of funds, which is cool because it makes yoga much more accessible to people who might not have the opportunity to practice yoga otherwise.
I really love Rosa’s class on Saturdays and the Queer Yoga classes that are offered during the week. Jen’s vinyassa classes are also awesome.

The best studio I’ve ever practiced with. Inclusive and nurturing place where yoga really isn’t competitive. All bodies, seated, and beginner classes make yoga truly accessible to all. If you ever wanted to try yoga but weren’t sure you could do it or were worried if you would feel comfortable, The Yoga Seed is for you! A wide range of classes makes Yoga Seed a great place to find your practice. And you are a part of a studio that gives back to community through outreach and volunteer programs. I love supporting a studio that is about making yoga a part of a whole vision for a just society.

Yoga Seed is an interesting place. Their new décor is lovely. They should get some help for all their dying plants, though. Also quite a few of the studio bolsters are really stinky.
ML is an amazing inspiring teacher, and Melissa’s Sunday night Yin class was wonderful. Jennifer’s am vinyasa class was fun and just challenging enough without wearing me out for the rest of my day. Kundalini yoga was new to me and very moving.
Yoga Seed does a great all bodies class for people with movement limitations (wheelchair, prosthetic, injury) and an amazing outreach program to sections of the community that might not have access to yoga instruction.
The beginners class (not taught by ML) was lacking in specific body corrections and instructions that newbies desperately need. I could see how many of the new students were struggling to execute even the most basic poses. A teacher that is so new should be confident and knowledgable to teach other beginners.
My problem with yoga seed is being judged for not being yoga enough. Their self proclaimed «acro-​yoga guru» (his words, not mine) quite condescendingly told a class that they weren’t really practicing yoga, just doing the poses. Many new practitioners aren’t aware of the 8 limb yoga philosophy. I have always been under the impression that yoga is a very self reflective journey, and you should always respect where others are on their journey. That respect is missing here.

I’ve only been to the Yoga Seed Collective once, but I’m planing on coming back. I took their Friday morning class, which was meditative stretching. Holding each pose for 5 mins (2:50 each side I think). At first it’s hard to turn your mind off, but once you do, you can feel the poses working and the stress melting away.
The Collective is unique, in that you can pay by donation or monthly plan. I paid 5 dollar, some paid 10, others I saw not paying. They make a point of not refusing for your inability to pay. As it is a nonprofit. I love that.
Classes and times can do found on their website. They also have most yoga gear for use by the students, so if you don’t have a mat or blocks don’t worry.
A very friendly and accepting environment, this would be a great place for beginners.

I took a Yin class last night with Tatiana. I really enjoyed it: seriously, this is a no pressure yoga place. It’s a store front studio so you walk in to a tiny matted waiting area with a desk, where you can pay or just sign in, notating that you paid online. Cubbies line the wall for your junk, and mats and props lie beyond. Big cork floor and a bathroom in the back. Teacher has their own dias.
A 4:30 yin class on a rainy day filled up so take their recommendation to come ten minutes early seriously! The class was slow, relaxing and led very well. I enjoyed myself and will be back. It’s $ 15 a class on a sliding scale with a few monthly pass options as well.
Also you can pay online, or download an app called Mindbodyconnect and see schedules, book and pay through that. Rad!

Yoga Seed continues to be my favorite for drop in Yoga. Aaron Pappas is a great instructor — good vinyasa flow work.
It’s warm in there — you may want to bring a towel — the session turned my mat into a swimming pool.
Aaron even broke out his guitar for shavasana — nice touch.

BEST YOGA place in town!
I have attended some yoga places in Sacramento and I have taken classes at gym but this one is by far the best.
I love the concept as well. It’s a donation based yoga, they have recommended donation amount but the money goes toward promoting yoga and events!
I am a beginner and I felt like as a beginner, the classes are amazing but challenging. I did the beginner yoga/​vinyasa and it was amazing. I can’t wait to try the other classes! The instructor was informative enough but also it wasn’t too fast or too slow, I felt sore the next day from it which is great! Each instructor has their own style and they are unique so try it out and see which one you like but I absolutely love it. I just felt amazing afterwards.
I am definitely coming back again!

I have been bouncing around various yoga studios recently, and I think I have finally found a permanent home at the Yoga Seed. Not only is this downtown studio the most affordable, but it is the best. Not only is the body attended to, but the mind and spirit as well with inspirational short messages delivered at the beginning of each class by compassionate, skilled teachers.
I LOVE the Yin Yoga classes on Monday and Thursday nights, which are perfect for those seeking relaxation via a deeper stretch and a slower pace. There are also most advanced vinyasa classes as well for those seeking a more intense practice. Classes are donation based and no one is turned away. Suggested donation is $ 7 per class and you can pay in person or through an online profile on their website.
My only complaint would be that sometimes it turns into hot yoga — unintentionally. Doing Sun Salutations in an 80 degree room with sweat dripping in your eyes isn’t ideal in my opinion, and the AC could be embraced a little more fully in the hottest summer months. But other than that occasional discomfort, I really enjoy coming here. The people who I have met here have been very sincere, highly interesting, extremely diverse. I recommend it to anyone interested in discovering yoga!
