Acapulco Restaurant & Lounge

This restaurant has been a staple in the St. Ann area for years. It has a great reputation but I rarely go there. I went last night with 4 friends for a birthday dinner. The place was about ½ full. The waitress was prompt but the food took at least 45 minutes. Then one of our ladies orders was incorrect and by the time she got her correct order the rest of us were almost done eating. 3 of us ordered fajitas, 1 person got chicken 2 people got chicken, beef and shrimp combo. The tails were still on the shrimp and everything was overcooked and extremely dry. The flavor was good but these were easily the worst fajitas I’ve ever had. The waitress said their regular cook didn’t come in. The 2 people who did not order fajitas were pleased with their meal.

This place was once good. But over the years has gone down hill. The service is terrible and the place is dirty as well. Its a shame because the food is great, when you can get someone to wait on you. And there aren’t drunk guys playing pool gawking at women in the place and being loud and rude.

At one time this Resturant was one of the great area Mexican, But has lost that rating. The food still good. But nothing to write about

The wings and house salad, are the best! Food is always hot, and promptly delivered. Nice and friendly staff, I really enjoy this place.

My friend’s and I stumbled upon this restaurant by accident, and it was unbelievably great find. We thought it was closed at first, but there were a scattering of people in on the Monday night, either playing pool or just sitting at the bar. Food was pretty good, no major complaints (although the steak that came with the Carne Asada that I got was a bit dry/​a little overcooked). Otherwise, laid back atmosphere, acceptable service, and overall a good experience. I will have to come back on Saturday nights, because I heard from the waitress that that’s when they open the big salsa floor on the other side of the restaurant.

My favorite Mexican in STL. They have the best chips and salsa and very friendly service.

Had a groupon. I seem to remember this place in a different location along the Rock road years back, and it was small, but seemed like you were in a mexican restaurant. Didn’t get that feeling really at this one.
Server was a 20 something guy that had worked there in the past and was back, but he seemed to be struggling quite a bit. He was super sweet and apologized a lot for his shortcomings so that was nice.
Food was really just so so. Not blown away by it. It didn’t seem like a very clean place either. Our menus were sticky. The lighting is dreary and decorations sad. While we were there a guy came into the place with his bike and parked it in the door way area. He went to the bar and sat and we were fairly certain he was drunk because he spilled something from the bar (salsa maybe) and barely turned around to look at it, and then left it there. Nobody seemed to be bothered by the drunk guy or his bike.
Strange experience I guess and one that makes me think that I don’t need to go back. The food was not bad, it just wasn’t great and I really like to have atmosphere and this place is doesn’t have it.

I thought the food here was really good. Their salsa is by far my favorite in St. louis. I got the tacos with fried flour shell. I dont know if ive had a better taco in St. louis .I cant wait to go back and get more. Even the beans and rice were really delicious. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that the bathrooms could use some updating. Other than that I would definitely drive out of my way to come here

It really wasn’t that great. With a name like Acapulco, you’d expect the food to be authentic and delicious. It’s neither. I was fully prepared to use my Spanish and enjoy some authentic tacos. However, the waitress (who took seven minutes just to come take our drink order) had no idea what authentic tacos were. The rice tasted like it came from a box. The guacamole was tasteless, and there were random potatoes in my enchilada. It was okay for having a Groupon, but wasn’t great. Try Las Fuentes on Lindbergh instead.

I will NEVER return to this restaurant.
I tried Acapulco because I bought a Groupon for them. There were two distinct Groupon deals, one was $ 10 for $ 20 worth of food and drinks and the other deal was $ 18 for a Mexican meal for two which included two entrees and two margaritas. I bought the Groupon for the Mexican meal for two.
When I told the waitress that I had a Groupon, she told me that I could only order from selected entrees, which was not specified on the Groupon. I didn’t complain and just went along with it. My boyfriend and I ate our food, which was decent, but not the best. I don’t understand why I have to pay an extra $ 1.00 for sour cream. I can buy a 16 oz container of Sour Cream from the grocery store for that price. Plus, they used cheddar cheese instead of a Mexican cheese such as Chihuahua, which is a sure sign of a lack of authenticity.
The problems arose when it was time for me to pay the bill. First of all, the manager came over to my table to ask me to see the Groupon on my phone as I was taking a bite out of my chalupa. Instead of waiting until I was finished eating, her and the waitress stood there until I retrieved my phone out of my purse. I explained to her that I bought the Mexican meal for two Groupon instead of the $ 10 for $ 20. About 5 minutes later, she returned to my table asking me what deal I had bought. I had to explain to her at least another two times that I bought the Mexican meal for two. Apparently, she still didn’t understand because my waitress brought me a bill which included two entrees and two margaritas.
As a business owner/​manager, she should completely understand promotions that her business offers through daily deals websites. Her behavior was completely unprofessioal. I give the food a 3-​star rating, but the poor service brings the rating down to 1-​star.

There are plenty of drawbacks to this little locale. None of which I will mention here. Because they are entirely irrelevant. Why? CHICKEN in MOLE. That is all, I am done.
(P.S. If someone knows of a better place to get chicken in mole, please do share. I’ve yet to find it.)
