My friend told me this island is magical and I have to agree with her. It’s got that rustic, local-color feeling full of boaters, fishermen, and tourists. It was hard to find Pine Island, my friend hasn’t been here in 25 years and I’ve never been here. So there was a lot of driving around, getting lost and asking for directions. An employee at a Walgreens finally got us on the right track and we rolled into St. James at dusk/ Having called ahead we liked the sound of $ 65/night plus a Queen bed but were unsure of being on a canal. I can tell you this was the best place we had stayed on our little trip. Bathroom, kitchenette, screened in patio. sounds familiar, right? Except this place was on a canal so picturesque with boats tied up, homes across the waterway and palm trees. this was my idea of a cool, local motel. The kitchenette was stocked with everything except the food, there was recycling bins. Very close to the local attractions including a place called The Ragged Ass Saloon. The locals I spoke to highly recommend this place so I’m just putting it out there if you come to visit St. James City in the future.
