Very cool venue with a range of shows and galleries. Most recently, i saw a DJ competition that was fantastic. The downstairs area was suitable for punk and local shows, and the upstairs provides a unique area to talk away from the speakers. My problems with Blank Space come entirely from the staff. The bartenders were very… laissez faire. Also, they made my friends and I finish our drinks before going outside. That would be fine except for the fifteen people that were already outside with drinks. Just be consistent. Love the venue and the acts; I hope the service gets stepped up in my next few visits

I went here after seeing on Faceboook that there would be a movie played that I wanted to see. So, my friends and I went and it is a very nice space! Very clean and has a comfortable feel to it. I would recommend it if you are looking for a place to host a party, show a movie, or do some event. Nice owners too.

Came here for my high school reunion, and thought the space was amazing! I love the concept that it’s a café and library by day and a bar by night. The brick walls make it modern yet cozy at the same time. Definitely recommend this place to grab a drink at any time of the day.

Truly a place that lives up to its name – Blank Space is a bar, venue, shop, and lounge all wrapped up into one. I went there a few days ago to watch a friend and a few other bands. The friendly bartender was serving up drinks with a full bar and delicious teas. The space was cute and inviting – exposed brick, couches, a stellar collection of books. I also was there for IndiHop last Spring. That time there were racks of vintage clothing and other merchandise to buy. I am not sure what the grounds are for booking it as an event space but it would be perfect for a night shower, birthday, or engagement party. The only thing I worry about is that it tries to be everything. With handmade items to buy, the outline of a music venue and bar, and a feel of an event space you are not really sure where to look. I have watched enough Tabatha Takes Over to know that when a venue tries to be too many things, it could be detrimental to its entire existence. Having said that – I will return. For what reason? There is no way of knowing. That’s what makes Blank Space so unique.

So the Blank Space… What is it? Really it’s whatever you want it to be. It acts as a community space for anyone who needs it. Those needs may include an all vinyl DJ party, movie nights, and even Punk shows. Poetry readings and even public forums are apart of the Blank Space’s DNA. I’ve been several times and have always had an enjoyable experience. In addition, the venue just gained it’s full liquor license. So what makes this place special? Well first off, it’s a old spilt level house and it looks beautiful. The wall of books along the back wall are very neat(FYI: The books are donated from friends of the venue). Like other venues on Cherokee Street, you can buy vinyl here as well. The upstairs is closed off but the downstairs and main levels are were the events take place. The basement is well… a basement. It’s not a very large room but it is good enough. You’ll have the feeling that you are in some kind of exclusive house party. So if you tend not to do well with tight spaces, the basement might not be ideal. Usually the upstairs has a good amount of space but sometimes it can get tight. Pricing wise it can vary. $ 5 to $ 15 at the very most and it depends on the acts or type of show. During the day, they serve tea and drinks as needed. I have heard a juicer is coming soon as well for those looking. Drinks are pretty cheap, there is plenty of Stag and PBR on deck also there is a fair amount of hard liquor available if that’s your poison. All in all, it’s very cheap. Also the people there are always willing to take suggestions on how to run things better. Again, the idea is that it’s a community space. Everyone is welcomed. The Blank Space crew have turned the former home of Cranky Yellow into a home for St. Louis artists of all types. The place has a very welcoming feel to it, the ladies and gentlemen who keep the place running are commended for offering a space like this in St. Louis. I can not think of many places that offer a space to fit your needs, no matter what it is. If you want to see the best local artists in St. Louis, check out the Blank Space on any given night.
