Chava’s Mexican Restaurant

Fresh, we really enjoyed our lunch. Husband had Ranchero chicken enchiladas. It was served with rice and beans. I had the tostadas with Ranchero chicken. I think this restaurant deserves a solid 3.5 stars. Pretty good food, but wish the flavors were a bit more intense. Good salsa. Reasonable price.

They had the best salsa I have ever had!!! The cilantro and saltiness was perfectly mixed!!! Fried tacos were amazing as well!!!

You always have a experience at any diner whether it be bad, good or just in different. My friends and I ate at Chava’s this past weekend and for lack of better words Fantastic. I think this will be my go to restaurant when I know I want an exceptional meal. The chimichanga was by far the best I’ve ever had. I do highly recommend this restaurant ooh! and they have outside seating so I don’t know what the inside looks like, but the wait staff was on their toes very attentive. Awesome!!!

I LOVE this restaurant. Not much else to say. I actually meant to take a picture of my food but didn’t because I scarfed it down. The chips and salsa are extremely fresh and very delicious. The party next to us ordered guacamole and it looked amazing but we will order that next time. Next time we are in St. Louis, we will be coming back for sure!

Chava’s is awesome. I’ve only been here once so I can’t say anything to consistency but the experience tonight was great. It’s very relaxed which is big for me. Good place to wind down after a long day of work. The queso dip was amazing and the make your own burrito is outrageous… and huge. Plus side it is really affordable with cheap beer options. Overall I’ll definitely be back and would recommend giving it a try if you like Mexican style food.

Pretty good food, delicious margaritas and very good service. Not a fan of their chips or salsa. I think the rule of not getting to sit unless the whole party is there, is just ridiculous. You can’t even sit if you have a party of 3 and 2 of you show up. The place isn’t that flipping busy. It’s also pretty cramped, the tables are very smashed in. Other than that, it’s a typical MexAm place with ok food.

Nicest staff ever & delicious, affordable meals! Love the queso & salsa. Fajita nachos are my go to but also enjoy the El Mireko or any of the daily specials! Yum!

Consistently good, affordable food. Fun atmosphere, although it can get a little packed. Service is always great. I usually get the build a burrito (which is a great deal) or the chimichanga. This time I opted for the Fajita tacos with steak. It’s perfect if you’re wanting something a little lighter (burrito will stuff you) and the steak was marinated with a nice flavor. Chavas is always a good go to joint in Soulard.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia talking, but I love this place. One of the hardest parts of leaving Soulard was losing the ability to walk here. The atmosphere is fun and I’ve always enjoyed the food.
The place is pretty small, so be prepared for a wait. Don’t worry though, you can usually squeeze in at the bar and grab a few margaritas.

Chava’s is my favorite happy hour place in the city and serves my favorite margaritas anywhere. The frozen flavored ones are blended with real fruit. Try the strawberry mango blend! Margaritas are 2 $ off during happy hour.
Free chips and salsa. The food is delicious. The atmosphere is cool.
Ask to sit in Fernando’s section, he’ll take care of you well (tip him well in return!).

We were in the area surrounded by late Sunday afternoon drinkers and party seekers. We got hungry and started searching on Unilocal for a restaurant. This one came up as highly regarded.
Our expectations were met.
Tables are fully stocked with silverware and napkins. We were served chips and salsa within seconds.
Food was delicious and authentically pleasant.
We got checked out right at our table.

If only calories didn’t exist, I would eat here everyday.
ALWAYS incredible service and great food. I have had tons of things on the menu and loved everything but the veggie quesadilla (had carrots and the little baby corn on the cob things on it. weird).
The margs are so good sometimes I forget I’m not in Mexico. Be prepared for a wait basically everyday, but you will not regret this life decision.

First review, but not first visit here. Chava’s is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant to visit in STL. Not only are the margaritas awesome but the food is outstanding. This most recent visit, I opted for the Fried Tacos with Chicken and the Stuffed Peppers w/​Sausage and Cheese. Their Salsa is the best in my book and so is the Queso. Chava’s is a must have!

Oh Chava’s. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
Your salsa tastes like what I imagine it would be like to run mouth first through a fresh tomato and onion garden. Sometimes it’s a little chunky. Other times it’s smooth. Every time I get it, it’s slightly different, yet always tastes great. The fresh chips, though delicious, are simply a means to keep me from slurping the salsa from the bowl like ramen. Well played.
Your guacamole is green. This might not seem like a huge deal, but green guacamole means fresh guacamole, and that is the case here. Like the salsa, it tastes and looks slightly different each time, but never fails to be fantastic. That’s what you give me with all the food you make. It just tastes FRESH — which is sadly kind of a novelty in your chosen cuisine. You’ve never served me a plate of bean water with a side of rice mush, and I love you for that.

Finally, your margaritas are something of a mystery to me. How do they taste so delicious with all the tequila in them? Like seriously — I know there is tequila in there — my slowed reaction times and penchant for bathroom humor after leaving you assure me of that. They just taste SO good. Real fruit? Yes, please.
Lots of places seem like they have to keep up with food fads and change their menus to please the foie gras set. Not you, Chava’s. You keep doing what you do, and I keep on loving you for it.

Mexican in Soulard! Seated quickly. Fast & friendly service. Chips were fresh. Salsa was delicious. I suggest Ranchero Chicken EnchiladasWatermelon margarita the BEST! Credit cards I recommend.

Okay, maybe I’m jumping the gun. I came here for drinks on a Saturday night for the first time. The atmosphere was great… upbeat, laid back, and great service. I didn’t eat anything besides the chips and salsa on the table. Nothing special but solid.
Why am I telling you to here?
THE FROZEN MARGARITAS. duhhhhh.
So I sit down with a group of friends. Now, little background… I normally don’t like tequila. The taste of agave isn’t my thing. I don’t know why but I’m adverse to it… kind of makes me feel sick for some reason. They ordered multiple pitchers of this frozen strawberry margarita with sugar rimmed glassed. I’m all like, «no thanks I’m leaving soon anyways.» But they INSIST. I cave and settle for a half of a glass.
Oh…my…gosh. It was delicious. And by that I mean I couldn’t taste the tequila or alcohol but let e warn you, they are strong! The best part? Only 7.50 and one pitcher easily fills 4 glasses. Be careful, this stuff is strong and you can’t tell. If the alcohol doesn’t get you sick the sugar will.
I’ll be back for the cheap sugary booze and hopefully try some food along the way.

Good place, relaxed atmosphere, great salsa! I had the fish tacos when I came here and they were wonderful — 2 tacos with large pieces of fish inside. The food here was tasty, the margaritas were really strong (I only had 1 house rita and was feeling quite buzzed before leaving).
We had decent service and don’t really have a reason to complain. Nothing was over the top or impressed me enough for a 5, but overall I had no problems.
I am not sure if they have a parking lot, but mostly it’s just street parking.

Make’s my Top 3 Mexican List!!! Love Chava’s. This is Mexican done RIGHT! Fresh Ingredients, Amazing Flavors, and Homemade Salsa. Try the Fried Tacos. If you are really hungry build your own burrito, but beware-​they are HUGE.
Everyone in my party has always been happy at Chava’s. You will start to crave this food when you are away! Worth a trip into Soulard for this gem. Great place to sit outside in the Spring and Summer.
