Comfort Inn

This place is closed. I had booked a block of rooms here for my upcoming wedding and several guests had made reservations. In June I found out that they were closed for renovations to become a Holiday Inn. I was told that Holiday Inn would honor my contract. Yesterday I discovered (via a guest who had called them with a question) that they were not going to be open until November 1 (after the wedding). Nobody told me. Nobody told my guests. Nobody will call me back.

This is a really nice hotel that has good staff and a great breakfast buffet and good amenities. I like staying here when I come to St Louis.

Pretty much whatever everybody said here. We got our room on Friday night, and the receptionist said something about us having to work the aircon in the right way. Turns out, there was no aircon/​it was not turned on. It was 80 F all night. We were advised to call management the next day but they didn’t do anything about that. We came back to our room on Saturday afternoon with a 93 F room. The towels were not changed, room was obviously not cleaned. There’s nothing the receptionist could do so there was nothing for us to do but find another hotel. From the looks of it, many others did too.
And oh, their breakfast was horrible.

If the St Louis Tourism Industry knew about this hotel, they would shut it down.
The registration staff informed me that the A/​C was not available and cold water from the sink was not dispensing when I arrived. Each of the four nights I stayed were uncomfortable. I could have gone into another hotel, but this was close to the Washington University medical campus, where I needed to be. I also requested a fan three times, but none were available. And though my room had walls painted in a fresh spring green, using lukewarm water to brush my teeth with left my mouth dry and unclean.
Fortunately, there was plenty of hot water for showering. Too bad the shower curtain didn’t keep it sustained in the stall because it was too narrow for it!
The floor in my room was also sticky and I felt uneasy walking barefoot. The carpet on the hallway outside my room was far worse. I had visions of past patrons vomiting, flooding and dogs doing their business influencing what might have caused the vast array of stains. I usually take my shoes off when I enter my living quarters, and during my stay, it made me disgusted to even think of leaving my shoes on after walking from that hallway.
The continental breakfast consisted of tasteless and watery scrambled eggs and greasy sausages. Bland coffee and sugary ‘fruit’ juices were available, but even then, there was not a hint of cold water to drink.
Navigating around a full parking lot was horrible; it had a very narrow path around the building and underneath where the garage was located. There was only one opening to the garage also as the other looked like it was locked.
The fitness room was abysmal. The machines are outdated and the dumbbells were sparse.
The free Wi-​Fi was convenient, but inconsistent.
I appreciate what Tomeka and Kathy did for me by giving me a discount during my check-​out; I’m sure they provided what they could. Even so, any dollar spent here was wasted.
I highly advise against anyone from staying here. It is far from «Comfort» this inn suggests, a huge disrespect to the tourism of St. Louis. and an insult to travelers.

Do not stay at this hotel. No air conditioning, 80 plus degrees in the room. Front desk has no answers and based on other reviews this has been an issue for a long time. Everything is beat up from the walls, doors, and beds. Breakfast buffet is pathetic and it is a complete mess. Garbage cans full, nothing gets cleaned up. I can’t understand why anyone would even want to be an employee there. FYI, this is a very nice area to stay in. Lots of quaint restaurants and bars within walking distance and the metra train is a couple blocks away. Two hotels that are very nice nearby are Parkway Hotel and Chase Hotel. Spend the extra $ 20 and stay with them.

What more can I say. Thank God for Unilocal reviews so that I could mentally prepare myself for what I was getting into. I was in town for a conference from Thursday night until Monday morning and no other hotel in the area had rooms. As stated before the AC does not work. Thank goodness its April and not July. This morning when I woke up, my room thermostat said 82degrees and its 69 outside. I’ve had the AC fan running since I’ve got in just to not feel stifled even though no cold air will come out. In my time here, housekeeping has never come. The bed was only made when I arrived and never again by an employee. The trash cans are full. Oh and the kicker there is a rather large crack in the ceiling above where my head lies in the bed. I told the front desk about it when I first arrived and they did nothing.

run as fast and as far as you can. air conditioning doesnt work, windows dont open, wifi/​ethernet doesnt work and you have to be a small child or midget to fit in the shower. i was actually too scared to shower so i went to walgreen and bought baby wipes to clean myself since i was only gonna be there for two days. the shower floor actually yellow standing water in the stall… explains the smell in the room. the ceilings had water stains all over and the parking might as well be nonexistent. RUN!!!

One of the worst if not the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. At first it looks nice but everything was done by cutting corners. I took two nights of cold showers (70 °F water) and the air heater was not working (stayed at 66F) similar to other complaints mentioned in past Unilocal reviews. I called the desk and they blamed it on the old building and bad circulation. Which is not an excuse if you expect to have comfortable guests. It was equivalent to camping. Another problem is a health risk. The carpets were wet and moldy. I don’t have allergies except when I’m in the hotel and when I leave for the day I clear up and feel good again, which suggest something in the hotel. Those where the things that are ridiculous but for $ 100/​night it should also be well kept. When we first got to the hotel they said their key system is down so they couldn’t give us a key. WTF no key to our room? Then when you leave and come back there was a line to get your door opened and had to wait several minutes. It was also painted and caulked extremely sloppy. If they are this sloppy with everything it makes me nervous about how well they wash the sheets, clean the bathrooms and cook breakfast. Stay anywhere else. Staying in your car on the street would make more sense.

Our room was really nice and I loved the huge bathroom! They had a nice Kuerig coffee maker as well. Over all beautiful room, however one feature was off. The hotel doesn’t have heat. I fumbled with the thermostat for 20 minutes before giving up and calling the front desk. I was then informed that the hotels ventilation system is older so the only feature available was AC. It has been 4 hours since then and I’m still currently laying in this bed-​which is nice and comfy-​cold.

set temp higher than room temp, your room will become hot. What a moron. bed sheet had blood stains on it. although few other things were ok. but I won’t pay 120 $ for this piece of shit.

I was pleasantly surprised when I stayed here for a business trip. I used to live in the Central West End, so when I was told to make a trip to Saint Louis I immediately looked for a room in my old neighborhood. Most of the hotels were above the rate my company wants to pay, but I found the Comfort Inn for less than $ 100/​night. I thought it might be a little seedy, and I was prepared for that. Turns out, the place is quite nice. My room was modern and the parking was easy (and free!). I could walk to my old favorite restaurants and coffee shop too. Next trip, I’ll probably stay here again.

Hairy.
The shower contained significant black hair. Both of the comforters also were contaminated with, I presume, the same person’s hair. Sheets and pillows were both hairless or we would have been looking for a new place to stay the night. We checked in around 4PM or so and several large bags of garbage sat uncollected on our floor.
I appreciated the secure parking provided at no extra cost. The hardwood floors in our room were also nice.

Creepy parking garage, tiny bathroom, and my heater wouldn’t shut off… it was 80 degrees in my room. I’m also fairly positive that housekeeping looked through my bag while I was out.
The breakfast was more than I expected so that along with the fancy looking lobby were both good things, but otherwise, I wouldn’t plan to stay again if I had a better option.

Tried to use the elevator and had to wait a good 10 minutes while I could clearly hear that it was stopped one floor below while housekeeping was vacuuming it, really? at 10:30 am on a saturday morning? you can’t do this at a less busy time? oh and why bother vacuum the elevator carpet? it’s so horribly stained it’s original color was unrecognizable!
The parking garage was awful and left an oily film all over my car that took 2 car washes to remove.
The room felt like a constant 85 degrees and when we complained we were told that the air conditioning was off for the year and our only option was heat, and no windows that opened, had to wake up in the middle of the night for a cold shower just in the hopes to sleep. Found out the day we left that only the front half of the hotel has windows that don’t open, the back half of the hotel has windows that open, why the hell didn’t they offer us a new room when we complained how hot it was?
And speaking of sleep, the bed was so horrible, my neck hurt for about a week!
The cheaply and horribly installed floating fake wood floors were poorly cleaned and the planks of wood shifted and slid when you walked on them, not safe!
The bathrooms are so incredibly small that if you’re more than 95 lbs and or larger than a size 2, you’ll have a hard time in the micro-​shower.
if you have to use a bathroom on the first floor /​lobby area, good luck, all the ones we passed had big out of order signs on them.
If you do stay here, go with really low expectations, and a fan and/​or demand a room with windows that open. And if you don’t want to lug your suitcases up and down a nasty back stairwell with no working elevator, unload your car before parking it in the garage.
Or then again, spend a little more money and stay someplace nicer!

Staff was friendly, but breakfast was so-​so. Slight sewage smell present in room and bed was too soft. Odd that there was no carpet in room. Did look updated, though.

Mixed reviews across the board from other Unilocalers. My family + extended family dominated a section for the second floor this past weekend. We were in town for a wedding and didn’t want to spend the extra $$$$ to stay with the rest of the crew at the fancy Chase down the block. Although we spent a lot of time at both hotels, Comfort Inn was a great choice.
The rooms were clean with updated décor. Beds were comfy, showers were powerful with plenty of warm water. One cup/​pod coffee makers in every room with my fav coffee — Green Mountain. Free breakfast with waffle maker machine, cheesy eggs and sausage.
I didn’t see any creepers hanging around the lobby. Most guests were there for other weddings or business. I didn’t smell a weird smell in the hall. Elevator runs all night, easy parking garage. Nice staff — they made new keys for my forgetful bro every 5 minutes without complaint. Free computers and printers available to guests in the lobby. Solid affordable choice for about $ 85/​night.

Pro:
Well located in the CWEnd; right on top of lots to do, and the Hospitals.
Great Beds. Great pillows.
Great shower head.
Great fitness room.
Decent warm breakfast.
Underground parking, for when it is hot.
Strong and consistent WiFi.
Con:
The building had an odd odor. No one knew why.
No carpet in the rooms. Very odd.
Shower stall is VERY short and narrow.
The staff was accommodating.

The staff was polite but there were a lot of repairs needed about the place, from the big stuff like a broken elevator to smaller stuff like the shower having a hole in the tile.

The people working here don’t have an idea of what is going on.
The bathrooms are SO CRAMPED. If you are tall, wide or well not tiny you will hit the ceiling while you are doing your hair, hit the counter while using the bathroom or barely extend your arms while in the micro-​shower.
I would not recommend that you stay here. It is pretty pricey for a dumpy place.
with a lot of work this place has potential… but not as is.
