We love smart, interesting, delicious restaurants. Who doesn’t? The cupboards were bare at home. So, we walked down to the Copper Pig. Pleasant crowd on Tuesday. We enjoyed an above average chardonnay at happy hour prices, a strange Chao Tom starter, and a couple of salads. The Palta a la Riena salad was so good we wanted to lick the plate. We’ll be back. Tip — bring your own dinner rolls.

This place was such a surprise! I believe it is on the newer side but you really can’t tell at all! The décor inside is gorgeous with cool lights and lots of exposed wood. The menu is fun and there are a ton of options. Just FYI the menu online is close to the menu at the restaurant but when we went there were a ton more options plus also specials. To start we had the red curry panner poutine! Omg this was my favorite dish of the night. The paneer and curry sauce were perfect and it had just the right amount of spice. Delicious! We also has the bacon and Brie appetizer which was a yummy dip with bread. Equally delicious. There appetizer selection was the best! I can’t wait to try more. For mains I had the cheesesteak which was great and my husband had the burger special. Both of these dishes were good. They had a great cocktail list and beer list. Overall this place is great and I cannot wait to go back and try more!

I’ve been anxiously awaiting my first visit to this restaurant, & I definitely left with a smile on my face. I came here for dinner with my sister and friend before we went to a show at the Fox. I was greeted by extremely friendly staff. The menu has so many choices it was hard to make up my mind. I ordered the Beet fries with goat cheese, and the Bacon jam with Brie as our appetizers and I cannot even begin to describe how delicious both of these were to nibble on. For the entrée, I was torn between the shrimp po boy and the avocado tacos. At the recommendation of the server, I went with the tacos and was pleasantly surprised. Actually pleasantly surprised is probably the greatest understatement I have used all week, these tacos were some of the best tacos I have ever had in my life. And I am not going to lie, I have eaten a lot of tacos in my life. The dining space has a very warm, welcoming atmosphere, and I can’t wait to go back. Well done Nhat! Aimee, try the Purple Rain, thank me later. ;-)

Had a great experience at Copper Pig. The drink menu is really interesting. We ordered the beet fries, and they were awesome. I don’t like beets at all, but they were so good! I really liked their Cuban sandwich. Staff was really friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and our food came out pretty quick. The décor is beautiful. My only suggestion is a few more options on the food menu.

We enjoyed the fried fish we had here, which was served sitting up, head and all. The presentation was great, and it was served with a sweet roasted plantains and rice. We also got the bibimbap bowl and the red curry paneer poutine. The poutine was probably the most interesting and tastiest – creative, but simple to put together(I’m tempted to try it out at home sometime). I wanted to try the beet fries but my hubby wasn’t into the idea so we skipped it. The bowl and the fish were tasty but nothing was mind-blowing, especially given the hype on Unilocal and other places. The fish was a little bland, especially once we were past the crispy skin. The bibimbap bowl was generous on the meat, which we appreciated. That being said, I would be tempted to come back and try some other parts of their menu and I appreciate their creativity.

Doing our Sunday ritual, we wanted to try a new place for brunch and we happened to be near the Macklind District and decided to try the Copper Pig. We were greeted by the hostess, who was wearing footed pajamas along with several other servers, which I thought was unique and fun. The restaurant décor is so neat with the Edison Bulb hanging fixtures, exposed brick walls, and original artwork. It was a very cozy, yet hipster feel. Their brunch menu was on the small side but had a diverse selection. Our waitress came over, greeted us, and took our drink order-mimosa for me and the Wasabi Blood Mary for Dan. We waited, and then waited some more and after 15 minutes our server came over and said the bartender was a little behind and took our food order. We then waited some more and saw others around us receiving their drinks even though they ordered after us. Finally about 25 minutes after ordering our drinks we received them and we were not disappointed. Dan really liked the kick from the Wasabi. Right after getting our drinks our brunch items were served. I ordered the Avocado Toast with a side salad and Dan got the Bahn Mi with a side salad. Both dishes looked fantastic, though I hate to admit Dan’s looked even better than mine! Though simple, my avocado toast was delicious yet Dan’s sandwich was out of this world. We were both going to order another round of drinks but our server did not return to our table until long after we were finished and plates cleared. We enjoyed our food and liked the atmosphere but the slow service kind of turned us off. I would have understood if they were slammed but the place was only about half full and tables seated after us got their orders way before ours. We will probably give this place another shot but probably not for awhile.

I’ve been here just for the Bi Bim Bap bowl which I love! Nice atmosphere but it can get crowded when there’s a wait. The bar area is spacious. It’s been cold(outside and in the restaurant) the 2 times I’ve been and last time I wore my coat the whole time. The staff is knowledgeable of their menu and foods. My friends enjoyed their dishes though a few got the double burger and it looked smaller than it should be presented. It looked like it should have been one patty– not 2 fast food looking patties. Tater tots are offered as an app and side– delicious option. I’ll be back. You should go!

Ok, first you need to understand that I am the poutine whisper. Unquestionably my favorite food and I’m picky. Finding good poutine outside of the province of Quebec had been futile, that is until the Copper Pig came to being. Good fries, above average cheese but the sauce was great. I had the regular poutine and I was not disappointed in the least. I also had the duck confit poutine and got to eat about half of it before my wife decided that she wanted it! I liked the vibe in the place. Waited an hour on a Friday before we got a table but it was worth it. Good beer selection and only 5 bucks for a craft beer? Overall 4.5 stars and a definite going to come back place.

There was a lot of hype surrounding this restaurant’s opening, so I was pretty excited when I finally found a day we could go eat. The location is great– right near Russell’s on Macklind. It’s relatively easy to find street parking. We tried the following dishes: Bi Bim Bap Bowl– There was something so underwhelming about this simple dish. I honestly can’t pinpoint where this fell short. There was adequate gochujang, there seemed to be enough vegetable/meat. It doesn’t match up to Seoul Taco’s even more basic Gogi bowl. Shaved Brussel Sprout Salad– brussels and kale have taken over as the«it» salads, and this one is exceptional. The combo of ingredients isn’t too heavy. Poutine– indulgent, but delicious always… Breakfast Bahn Mi– tasty, and unsurprisingly messy. If I were in the area, I would return for cocktails and snacks. Beet fries next time…

3 based on this experience but I know 4 is coming next time we’re back! The bibi bowl is amazing. Or whatever it is called. So delicious. The beet fries is still very very rooty so frying didn’t get rid of that flavor. Wasn’t a fan, we sent them back. The Brie and bacon jam wasn’t as good as we expected. But the service and the drinks were amazing. We will try more selections when we’re back!

Bar is very nice. Lighting is spot on. Noise level is higher than average despite the Unilocal indication. That’s probably my biggest complaint about the place. It’s loud as hell in there. Between the(elevator quality) music and the chatter, the acoustics in the place make it difficult to converse with your date. even if you’re sitting right across from him at a small table. Food was good. Chocolate tres leches cake was fantastic. Barley risotto was very, very good. Beet fries are unique… Can’t say they’re spectacular, but we sure as hell didn’t regret ordering them.

Food was pretty good. Service some of the worst I’ve ever had. The owner was nice enough to let us seat 10 at there usual no reservation-policy place. Appreciate that. After we got our apps the dirty plates, along with every other empty dish we had used throughout the night, sat in front of us on the table for 25 minutes when the entrees finally came. Asked the owner who finally stopped by to clear the plates and he was okay with as much. This wasn’t the worst. The worst was when our waitress came by to ask us about finally clearing the obviously over welcomed app plates while we were in the middle of a conversation and visibly shook her head in disgust when her inquiry wasn’t immediately addressed, guess tables always turn in the sake of karma. Anyway we still tipped 22% as always, begrudgingly so, as previous members of the service industry it’s just commonplace in our group. But damn it hurt to do so. And the owners snide smirk and back turn as we walked out after it all was just salt in the wound. Will never be back at least for our own principle. Taste may save them, but chances are the pathetic service will be their death.

I was so happy to finally get to try this place! I stopped by for dinner with a good friend of mine on a cold weekday and we decided to hang at the bar instead of waiting for a table(which honestly is much more fun anyway.) The reason this review is four stars instead of five is because I didn’t like either of the craft cocktails I tried, which really never happens to me. I switched to wine and that was wonderful, but the cocktails were not doing it for us. I’ll definitely give that another chance on my next visit. Everything on the menu looked so good, but since we couldn’t try everything, we decided to start with the bacon jam and melted brie spread and the deviled eggs with bacon chips. The deviled eggs were A-OK — definitely good but not mind-blowing. The jam, however, I could eat every day for the rest of my life. Just so good. It’s impossible to stop after a few bites. After that came the avocado tacos and a bahn mi burger(that was a special the night we were there.) Both things absolutely blew us away. The tacos had amazing flavor and texture and were perfectly spicy, and the burger was five stars and beyond. I sure hope they add it to the regular menu. I’ll definitely be back to try more, and I’m glad to have a new awesome spot in St. Louis!

I was super excited to find out this place was open! I’ve driven by this place on opening week, and it always seemed busy. Knowing this, my friends and I planned on having dinner at 6pm to avoid the crowds. We came as a party of 4 on a Saturday night at 6pm and was able to immediately get seated. The menu looked great! It looked like half the items had pork of which I am a huge fan. Our group decided to go for some appetizers and drinks. We were recommended the Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Miso and Bacon and Beet Fries. We ended up ordering the brussel sprouts and the Thai Pork Laab with Shrimp Chips. Everyone absolutely loved the brussel sprouts, but weren’t a huge fan of the pork laab. I felt like the laab lacked flavor. I asked our waitress for a drink recommendation. She recommended the Purple Rain and something else. I ordered the Purple Rain, and man was that good. I probably could’ve downed 4 of those. I don’t quite remember what was in the drink, but what I do remember are the huge pieces of blackberries. For dinner, I ordered the bulgogi cheesesteak, which I wasn’t super impressed with. I feel like all in all. I really loved the drinks and the one appetizer we got, but the food was a little hit or miss. Also the later it gets the louder it gets. So I would recommend coming early if you want to avoid the crowds and the noise. I’m in between a 3 and a 4 star, but I’m going to up it to a 4 because I think the menu items are just going to get better. The food was good, the décor, drinks, and atmosphere were awesome. I will definitely be back for the drinks and to try more menu items.

Maybe 2.5 stars. I should have gone with my gut instinct. Instead I went with the hype. Asian fusion never works. It is a conglomerate of old and new without any distinct identity, and a mish-mash of flavors that turn into a cacophony of confusion in your mouth. It even makes a jook-sing go hula-hulong. Didn’t get that last sentence? That’s what Asian fusion is. The St. Louis food scene started touting Copper Pig in March. Gastropub fare with Asian influences. Low-Country South Carolina. Worldly travels meshed together. I started getting excited, even moreso when they finally opened, and dragged my two brothers here two weeks after opening night. It was a huge disappointment. The ideas sound pretty promising; the delivery falls flat. All in a very gorgeous, trendy, wannabe hip-and-happening arena. We walked in around 8PM; the girl at the door said a 30 minute wait. Ok. We’ll wait. No offer on waiting at the bar… well, the bar is packed. No offer to open a bar tab and get us drinks while we wait. Ok. I think that’s what trendy restaurants do nowadays, but hey, we can wait like we do at the chains… without the buzzer. We wait. And wait. Even the minion movie being shown on the TV comes to a close. My brothers start grumbling. People who were behind us get seated before us. The hostess doesn’t bother coming over to let us know how much longer. Neither does the owner who is busy schmoozing and fraternizing with the tables. People are finished with their dinners and sitting there chatting, which is fine… but you would think a «gastropub» would have a lounge area or additional bar seating for that sort of thing. So at 60 minutes of waiting, I finally go up to the hostess to ask how much longer it will be. I’m about to eat my arm. She looks concerned, pores over her chart intently, and tells me it’ll be any minute… they have tables, but people haven’t left yet. Um… ok…so you guys have groups waiting, but no back up plan to accommodate for this situation?(Side note: This is vastly different than Juniper, as last time we were there, we were getting up to leave, and the hostess came hurrying over to make sure we were leaving because«they needed the table».) So the three of us get seated at a two seat table 10 minutes later. In retrospect, I cannot believe we waited 70 minutes. Our waitress came over shortly after and took our drink orders and asked if we were ready to order. We ordered our appetizers. Without missing a beat, she asked if we were ready to order our entrees also. C’mon. I mean, yes, 70 minutes is ample time to go through your menu, but there was no mention of any specials or any of that small talk. Whatever. So we order everything in one swoop. We ordered and shared: 1) Bacon Jam and Melted Brie spread. By far, this was the best plate of the evening. They don’t give enough crostini to go with the jam/spread, so be generous when you slather on that. We did ask for more crostini. Our waitress at first said that they were making more but then reappeared shortly after with sliced french bread telling us that they were out of crostini. Whatever. I’d eat the jam and brie with hardtack if necessary. 2) Beet fries with whipped goat cheese. This was pretty good too. The fries were inconsistently cut — some were fry length and others were nubbins. They were slightly more al dente than what I would have liked, but they were not bad. 3) Bulgogi cheesesteak. I don’t know. I don’t know if this is supposed to be a cheesesteak with beef that sat in Korean sauce or if this is supposed to be bulgogi in a sandwich. It definitely was not bulgogi grade meat. Apples and cheddar were a part of this sandwich? I don’t know… the kimchi overwhelmed the sandwich so much; it was hard to taste anything else. And I love kimchi. I really do. Just not kimchi meatwich. It didn’t really do it for me. And you know, bulgogi is supposed to be so good, so melt-in-your-mouth…you could put it in a pita and get rave reviews. 4) Three little pigs. I don’t know. I was so confused. The panko pork cutlet looked and tasted like it came from the school cafeteria, Sysco style. Why is it called three little pigs? Two little pigs? Again, I wasn’t impressed… a fried egg and bacon, while on everything trendy, does not an excellent sandwich make. You might as well add kale to it… three might make more sense to me then. 5) Pork belly cuban. Ok. This one was decent. It’s not going to be on my last meal before I die sort of thing, but it’s not bad. It’s straight up a good decent cuban. Our drinks remained unrefilled for most of the meal, and we had to ask for refills. The washrooms x 2 are unisex. If you’re a girl, you know that this means a wait. They got us out of there in an hour. It’s okay; I don’t think any of us wanted to linger.

After several attempts to eat here(near misses on opening timing) we finally made it! Sad considering we can walk here. I digress however. I liked the diverse menu, however the choices are a bit limited song would suggest checking things out online first. I had a blood and sand cocktail to start, which was a nice wintery cocktail. Heat from the dewars plus a somehow slightly spicy fruit undertone– nice. We shared the shrimp meatball app, which was very fresh and had a nice light flavor. The«meatball» part was actually like a dumpling you would normally get steamed in a dough wrapper. This was a rendition of that, only impaled on a sugar cane stick and surrounded with a puffy dough. Lettuce wraps, shredded carrot, and a tangy fish sauce accompanied. I’d be happy just eating a couple orders of these gems for lunch. My son had the tacos, which I honestly would not have ordered for him had I noticed they were just avocado and slaw, but I’d already said«taco» and he heard me, so there it is. He ate the tortillas. And my super creamy mashed potatoes that came with my glorious spare ribs. I would have liked more than 3 tiny carrots with it, but it’s all good. My ribs were quite tasty, and very tender. A bit of a general pot roast flavor, but good. The hubs had the three pigs sandwich, which bacon, ham and a breaded tenderloin type cut, topped with an over easy egg. He quite liked it and raved about the flavorful bread it came on. The service was excellent and our special requests to get my hungry child taken care of were met gracefully and quickly. The food was great and I can’t wait to come back to try more items from the menu. And the extensive draft beer list!

We came to the copper pig after my sister raved about their dinner sevice. We dropped in for brunch the first Sunday they were offering it can easily say so glad we did. I had the cheddar waffle with bourbon apple and wife had the breakfast bahn mi — we also started with an order of the honey ricotta crostini. The entrees were outstanding and my wife’s bahn mi was definitely my favorite item we ordered. Bacon was perfectly cooked and the pickled veggies, sriracha mayo and fried egg were a welcome combination. Also, her sandwich came with tater tots that were perfectly cooked and well seasoned! My cheddar waffle was good but could have been a bit more cheesy or had some extra salt. Seemed a bit sweet for a more savory type waffle and the bourbon apples already were a perfect sweet compliment. Starter was good but kind of the same story as the waffle where some salt would have added more balance. Even during their first brunch service, everything was executed flawlessly and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great first experience at the copper pig and cannot wait to come back to try their other offerings!

We were fortunate enough to attend the second-ever brunch service at Copper Pig. Honestly, I never would have known they were so ‘new’, because these people are no amateurs. Our party of 4 had a pretty good selection of the broad range of flavors offered on the brunch menu, including red velvet pancakes that my partner is STILL raving about. I have to say I was really surprised at how random the menu seemed. But in a good way. The only common theme seems to be ‘exceptionally tasty stuff’. I had the Eggs Benedict. The egg was poached nicely, and the pan-fried cornbread was substantial without being too dense. My favorite part was the gravy. Being a legit Cajun myself, I was ready to judge harshly. The shrimp and the spice were spot on! It was a tiny taste of Southern Louisiana, and I would have it every day if it weren’t only offered on Sundays. Everyone else enjoyed their food, and all the little bites I had were amazing. My only(small) complaint would be the price of the mimosas we had. $ 8 for a couple ounces seems pretty steep, especially when most brunch places in the area at least do free refills. I had two, so $ 16 extra on our bill. For two people we ended up spending about $ 55. The food was priced appropriately for the level of gourmet/portion size, but I’ll probably skip the alcohol next visit. ;) My already high expectations were met, and exceeded. This place is PERFECT for the Macklind neighborhood. We will absolutely be back!

WOW! I cannot tell you how excited I was waiting for the Copper Pig to open. Now that it has opened, I am sad to say, it is the winner of a Stevie B Unilocal Award. It is the winner of; The Absolute Worst Meal at a Restaurant in 2015. They disappointed me with; food, cocktails and service. Let me start off with the positive points that saved them from getting a 1 Star Review: 1) Linen Napkins — They’re always give a nice upscale feeling to any restaurant. 2) Eco-Friendly To-Go Vessels — Thinking of our planet. 3) French Fries — European style fries & a little cup of ketchup. 4) It’s in my hood — Brings variety and vitality to the neighborhood. 5) Girl with water pitcher always made sure your glass was full.(Also see negative point)* Now the reasons why it was The Absolute Worst Meal at a Restaurant in 2015: 1) Service — Very rushed. We ordered cocktails and three appetizers. When our drinks were served, waitress asked for the rest of our order. We stated we wanted to wait until our small plates arrived. Later when the small plates arrived, she again asked for order. When we ordered a second round of drinks, she responded, «I meant your entrees». The time we were there, it was obvious they wanted us to eat, drink and go as quickly as possible. 2) Deviled Eggs with Bacon Chips — Had the taste of refrigerator. 3) Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Miso and Bacon — Bacon dominated the dish with Brussels Sprouts that were undercooked and hard. Dish was overly salty. Good thing for the water girl. 4) Beet Fries — Tasteless. I love beets and these were flavorless mush. I think they were prepped to far in advance. 5) Bulgogi Cheesesteak — Tough and hard to chew. Disassembled sandwich to see if that would help, but it was the actual beef that was making it tough and chewy. 6) Board Burger — Mealy burger, with a grey tint. My friend said, it resembled a burger patty from McDonald’s. Her dog wouldn’t even eat it when served the leftovers which were the majority of the burger.(Take note of photo) 7) Cocktails — Weak and unprofessionally prepared. Obvious their bartenders are more comfortable opening beer bottles and pour a draft beer. No skills in a well crafted cocktail. After leaving CP we went down the street to another establishment and ran into several other diners who where at the CP as well. We all compared notes and were in agreement that they have a lot of improving to do. I hate for a business in my hood to be on my Terrible Two’s List. So I’m going to give them a couple weeks to work their kinks out and hopefully they will. Then I’ll revisit them again and hopefully be able to raise my rating. When: November 12, 2015 Why: Belated Birthday Dinner

Very excited about this new restaurant described by the owner to Feast as «Fat Boy Asian», lol! Visited with my guy and a friend on Monday and the place was packed. I think we got the last table at 7 pm. Started with the Bacon jam and Brie spread served with bagel chips. Yum! Needed a few more chips to finish it off but they were quick to bring more. Embracing the pork theme we ordered the Cuban sandwich, three little pigs sandwich and pork belly dinner. Our food took a bit to come out so unprompted they sent us an order of beet fries with whipped goat cheese for dipping. Kudos to the attention to table service! I’d heard the beet fries were good but was hesitant to order them because I’m not s beet fan but wow these are so tasty, especially with the whipped goat cheese. Our entrees were excellent and each had their own unique flavor. The three little pigs was great the way all three pork options played together. The Cuban had maduros on it which I love. The pork belly was tender and tasty. Talked to the owner and they start Sunday brunch on 11÷15÷15 and poutine will be on the menu!
