Finney’s MMA, Kickboxing, Boxing and Jiu-Jitsu

I went in for a free class over 6 months ago, the only time I went back was to make sure I wouldn’t be charged for anything. Now I’ve been charged for a membership I don’t have. When I called I was told I would have to wait for a manager to contact me, which would probably be tomorrow. I was clearly lied to, and I would not recommend anyone to go to this place. I agree with other reviews that say they only want your money.

I have been competing in combat sports for over 20 years and Finney’s has one of the nicest, cleanest facilities that I have ever trained in. Their prices are very reasonable compared to any gyms I have seen with instructors of this high of caliber. I find it confusing that someone on here posted that they were unprofessional as I have had a very different experience in my 3+ years training here. Most of their instructors literally compete at a professional level in the disciplines they teach and it shows in the way they engage and instruct their students. They are always friendly and willing to put in extra time after class if there is a concept I am not quite understanding. I have never been to another gym that made me feel as welcome as they did from the first day I walked in the door.
Over the years I have occasionally seen people come into the gym with a «tough guy» attitude. People that were not willing to learn from someone else because they were already an «expert» boxer from training in their garage or something. I would be willing to bet some of these negative reviews are from people like this who left upset after realizing they were not as knowledgeable as they previously thought and their ego was bruised.
If you are looking for a place to pad your ego while taking your aggression out on someone, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a clean, friendly gym to expand your knowledge, make a ton of new friends and get into the best shape of your life then I don’t think you could do much better than Finney’s MMA.

I’ve been going to this gym for about 3 years. Although definitely not state of the art I’m reviewing because I think some of the negative reviews are unfair. First-​cheapest gym around. I’ve looked and this is the cheapest one in the area, maybe we got in with some kind of special, we did sign a contract. The boxing/​kickboxing classes are expensive and they are crowded. I’ve always found parking, always even when there is one class getting out and another one starting… plenty of parking. The staff has always been friendly and I’ve never felt uncomfortable approaching them about any issues. There is a good mix of people, senior citizens, college age kids, and a lot of working people.
Unfortunately, the building is old and the ladies locker room is terrible, drippy sinks, old counters and sinks, damp and smelly… I try to avoid it at all costs. My biggest complaint… the TV’s on the elipticals are frequently broken. Lastly, they are supposed to open at 5:30 am, but some times the staff has been late opening. When you are fitting in a workout before work…5−15 minutes waiting for someone to open the place is annoying.

I’m 19 and a college student. I thought that I would join here because it’s close to my house. It’s very unprofessional, and all they want is your money. Everything is over priced and I wish I never joined. I could be saving so much more money. And the contracts that they have are dumb. They literally take money out of my bank account every other week. The gym is so small there is barely any room. The people there are friendly but some don’t know what they’re doing. If I were you i would totally stick with club fitness or 24 hour fitness. It’s WAYY cheaper. I wish I could get out of there!

I love this place! My son takes boxing lessons while I exercise in the gym area upstairs. Staff is super friendly and the place is clean. The classes do become crowded but the cardio and free weight areas are generally not crowded, even during peak times after work. I’m a member and plan to stay one for a long time!

I visited this gym for a quick workout while visting family over the holidays. Perhaps we do things differently in LA but when training Jiu-​Jitsu I’m used to the instructor actually paying attention to what’s going on… no texting, playing Angry Birds or overall staring at his phone. I mean the dude (I think his name was Ezra) was literally heading for the exit before we were done sparing. Other than that the gym was clean, staff was friendly, and members were cool.

Well last month I found out that my 24 Hour Fitness location at Northwest Plaza would be closing within less of a month, even though there is another 24 Hour Fitness location near my job within 10 minutes my issue became the classes there. I’ve taken them before and quite frankly the only one I really liked was the cycling class. So I decided I want to take back up my boxing class at my old gym King’s Fitness Center. So I gave them a call on Friday and what did I get «The number you have called is no longer in service, if you would like names of similar businesses please hold…» Ummmmmmm excuse me? So not only am I losing my regular gym location now I’m finding out the place I was going to for boxing lessons is no longer an option as well.
So I decided to go on a hunt and find a new location close to the job so I could go workout straight after work. So I was torn between one of the closest Title Boxing Gym locations and another gym called Finney’s MMA. So I decided after work one day to go check out Finney’s and I must say I was thoroughly impressed. My concern was that whatever gym I decided to join would have not only have the workout equipment that I would like but plenty of classes to choose from and I must say from what I’ve seen, this place had everything I was looking for in spades. Their boxing and kickboxing classes have options between Co-​ed and Women only. They also do various classes from Yoga and Pilates to BootCamp, Zumba, and TRX. Did I also mention they do MMA training also? Yep! So I didn’t even bother going to Title Boxing Gym, I was just too impressed with Finney’s.
I’ve been at the gym now for over 3 weeks and I can honestly tell you I am having a wonderful time. The instructors are awesome and I’ve made friends in my different classes. Overall the staff has been nothing but respectful and great! I’m glad I joined up. One of the best decisions I’ve made this year.

The most unprofessional place I’ve ever been to. First the all, the prices are terrible, the staff is rude, and the location is awful. I went there in fall ’11 for a free class and to get some information. I decided to not join at that time because of money A few months later, I was in a position to join the gym, and I called spoke to someone. I specifically told him that I was there in the fall (4months earlier) and decided not to join because at the time it was on the high end of price for me. I told the guy that I was able to join and wanted to come in. I asked the gentleman if the prices were still the same. He said they were not the same as the prices from 4 months earlier. The gentleman on the phone offered me another free class even though I already had a free class four months earlier. I thought that was really nice of him. He also said that he would talk to me after the class about membership. I set up my free class and I went to the facility. It took me 20 minutes to find a parking spot because there were not enough parking spaces. Myself and several other members ended up parking at the parking lot on the other side of Finney’s. The lady told me it was always like that and sometimes she has to drive around a few times and wait until someone leaves. Once I went inside, I waited at the front desk for five minutes until someone finally helped me. I told them that I was signed up for a free class. I have the guy at the first desk my name and he put it into the computer. He said, «yeah you were here before». I told him that I was. The guy also said «you said you weren’t interested in joining». I politely told him that I was able to join now and I was offered a free class. I also told him that the gentleman I spoke to on the phone set it up and he would also talk to me about membership prices. The guy at the desk said, «it’s the same as it was when you were here». He also would not let me into the class because I already has a free class back 4 months ago. I told him that it was offered to me and I told the gentleman on the phone I took a free kickboxing class already. He offered me another free class on his on. The guy at the front desk didn’t care and still wouldn’t let me in. I asked if they had any forms or any information about membership I could take with me. The guy at the front desk said «no, too many people gym shop and we don’t give out papers». That was enough for me. I left and found another place that was better, professional, and easy on the pocket. Finney’s has very rude staff. I think the 1 star is still too high. If you are Interested in boxing or kick boxing, there are other places in St. Louis that are a lot better.
